Spectroscopic analysis of solar and cosmic X-ray spectra. 1: The nature of cosmic X-ray spectra and proposed analytical techniques

Techniques for the study of the solar corona are reviewed as an introduction to a discussion of modifications required for the study of cosmic sources. Spectroscopic analysis of individual sources and the interstellar medium is considered. The latter was studied via analysis of its effect on the spectra of selected individual sources. The effects of various characteristics of the ISM, including the presence of grains, molecules, and ionization, are first discussed, and the development of ISM models is described. The expected spectral structure of individual cosmic sources is then reviewed with emphasis on supernovae remnants and binary X-ray sources. The observational and analytical requirements imposed by the characteristics of these sources are identified, and prospects for the analysis of abundances and the study of physical parameters within them are assessed. Prospects for the spectroscopic study of other classes of X-ray sources are also discussed.

Analysis of torsional spectra of molecules with two internal C3v rotors. II - Far infrared and low frequency Raman spectra of dimethylether isotopes

The torsional far infrared and Raman spectra of gaseous CH3OCH3, CD3OCH3, and CD3OCD3 are presented. They are analyzed using a computer program which is based on the results of an extensive investigation of the isometric groups and of the symmetry groups of the rotation-internal rotation Hamiltonians of a series of semirigid two-top models. Four or more Fourier coefficients of the potential functions in two variables could be determined for each isotope. Strong evidence was found for Fermi-resonance-type interactions with the COC bending mode.

Polariton spectra under the collective coupling regime. II. 2D non-linear spectra

In our previous work [Mondal et al., J. Chem. Phys. 162, 014114 (2025)], we developed several efficient computational approaches to simulate exciton–polariton dynamics described by the Holstein–Tavis–Cummings (HTC) Hamiltonian under the collective coupling regime. Here, we incorporated these strategies into the previously developed Lindblad-partially linearized density matrix ($\mathscr{L}$-PLDM) approach for simulating 2D electronic spectroscopy (2DES) of exciton–polariton under the collective coupling regime. In particular, we apply the efficient quantum dynamics propagation scheme developed in Paper I to both the forward and the backward propagations in the PLDM and develop an efficient importance sampling scheme and graphics processing unit vectorization scheme that allow us to reduce the computational costs from $\mathscr{O}$($\mathscr{K}$ 2 )$\mathscr{O}$(T 3 ) to $\mathscr{O}$($\mathscr{K}$)$\mathscr{O}$(T 0 ) for the 2DES simulation, where $\mathscr{K}$ is the number of states and T is the number of time steps of propagation. As a result, we further simulated the 2DES for an HTC Hamiltonian under the collective coupling regime and analyzed the signal from both rephasing and non-rephasing contributions of the ground state bleaching, excited state emission, and stimulated emission pathways.

Spectroscopic analysis of solar and cosmic X-ray spectra. I - The nature of cosmic X-ray spectra and proposed analytical techniques

X-ray spectroscopic techniques developed in the study of the temperature and density structure of the solar corona are reviewed as introduction to a discussion of the modifications in these techniques which will be required for the study of cosmic X-ray sources. The structure of the interstellar medium - the presence of interstellar grains, the presence of molecules, the ionization structure - are considered in relation to the X-ray opacity of the interstellar medium. The expected spectral structure of individual cosmic X-ray sources is reviewed with emphasis on galactic supernova remnants and galactic binary X-ray sources.

Observations of the Ultraviolet Spectra of Helium (DB) White Dwarfs and a Study of the Ultraviolet Spectra of White Dwarfs Containing Carbon

Strong ultraviolet carbon lines were detected in the spectrum of the southern DC white dwarf BPM 11668. Observations of a number of hotter DB white dwarfs with IUE show no evidence of carbon features. Two additional DA white dwarfs were observed that have the strong unidentified absorption near 1400 A which now seems to be identified with another lower temperature feature as satellite lines to Lyman alpha radiation.
