Evaluating f-Orbital Participation in the UV═E Multiple Bonds of [U(E)(NR2)3] (E = O, NSiMe3, NAd; R = SiMe3)
A search for heavy Majorana neutrinos in scattering of same-sign W boson pairs in proton–proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at the LHC is reported. The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb -1 , collected with the ATLAS detector during 2015–2018. The search is performed in final states including a same-sign ee or eμ pair and at least two jets with large invariant mass and a large rapidity difference. No significant excess of events with respect to the Standard Model background predictions is observed. The results are interpreted in a benchmark scenario of the Phenomenological Type-I Seesaw model. New constraints are set on the values of the |V eN | 2 and |V eN V$^{*}_{μN}$| parameters for heavy Majorana neutrino masses between 50 GeV and 20 TeV, where V ℓN is the matrix element describing the mixing of the heavy Majorana neutrino mass eigenstate with the Standard Model neutrino of flavour ℓ = e,μ. The sensitivity to the Weinberg operator is investigated and constraints on the effective ee and eμ Majorana neutrino masses are reported. The statistical combination of the ee and eμ channels with the previously published μμ channel is performed.
We measure the absolute branching fractions of semileptonic D s + decays via the e + e − → D s * + D s * − process using e + e − collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 10.64 fb − 1 collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.237 and 4.699 GeV. The branching fractions are B ( D s + → η e + ν e ) = ( 2.35 ± 0.11 stat ± 0.10 syst ) % , B ( D s + → η ′ e + ν e ) = ( 0.82 ± 0.09 stat ± 0.04 syst ) % , B ( D s + → ϕ e + ν e ) = ( 2.21 ± 0.16 stat ± 0.11 syst ) % , B ( D s + → f 0 ( 980 ) e + ν e , f 0 ( 980 ) → π + π − ) = ( 0.15 ± 0.02 stat ± 0.01 syst ) % , B ( D s + → K 0 e + ν e ) = ( 0.24 ± 0.0 4 stat ± 0.0 1 syst ) % , and B ( D s + → K * 0 e + ν e ) = ( 0.19 ± 0.0 3 stat ± 0.0 1 syst ) % . These results are consistent with those measured via the e + e − → D s * ± D s ∓ process by BESIII and CLEO. Using two-parameter series expansion, the hadronic transition form factors of D s + → η e + ν e , D s + → η ′ e + ν e , and D s + → K 0 e + ν e are determined to be f + η ( 0 ) = 0.442 ± 0.02 2 stat ± 0.01 7 syst , f + η ′ ( 0 ) = 0.557 ± 0.06 2 stat ± 0.02 4 syst , and f + K 0 ( 0 ) = 0.677 ± 0.09 8 stat ± 0.02 3 syst . Using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb − 1 collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.66 GeV to 4.95 GeV, we study the processes of e + e − → ω X ( 3872 ) and e + e − → γ X ( 3872 ) . With the e + e − → ω X ( 3872 ) process, the branching fraction ratio R ≡ B ( X ( 3872 ) → γ J / ψ ) B ( X ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ ) is measured to be 0.38 ± 0.2 0 stat ± 0.0 1 syst ( R < 0.83 at 90% confidence level). In addition, we measure the ratio of the average cross section of e + e − → ω X ( 3872 ) to e + e − → ω χ c 1 ( ω χ c 2 ) to be σ ω X ( 3872 ) / σ ω χ c 1 ( σ ω X ( 3872 ) / σ ω χ c 2 ) = 5.2 ± 1.0 stat ± 1.9 syst ( 5.5 ± 1.1 stat ± 2.4 syst ) . Finally, we search for the process of e + e − → γ X ( 3872 ) , and no obvious signal is observed. The upper limit on the ratio of the average cross section of e + e − → γ X ( 3872 ) to e + e − → ω X ( 3872 ) is set as σ γ X ( 3872 ) / σ ω X ( 3872 ) < 0.23 at 90% confidence level. Using a data sample of ( 10087 ± 44 ) × 10 6 J / ψ events collected by the BESIII detector in 2009, 2012, 2018 and 2019, the electromagnetic Dalitz process J / ψ → e + e − η ( 1405 ) is observed via the decay η ( 1405 ) → π 0 f 0 ( 980 ) , f 0 ( 980 ) → π + π − , with a significance of about 9.8 σ . The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ( J / ψ → e + e − η ( 1405 ) → e + e − π 0 f 0 ( 980 ) → e + e − π 0 π + π − ) = ( 2.04 ± 0.20 ( stat ) ± 0.08 ( syst ) ) × 10 − 7 . The branching fraction ratio B ( J / ψ → e + e − η ( 1405 ) ) / B ( J / ψ → γ η ( 1405 ) ) is determined to be ( 1.36 ± 0.17 ( stat ) ± 0.06 ( syst ) ) × 10 − 2 . Furthermore, an e + e − invariant mass dependent transition form factor of J / ψ → e + e − η ( 1405 ) is presented for the first time. The obtained result provides input for different theoretical models and is valuable for the improved understanding the intrinsic structure of the η ( 1405 ) meson. Using e + e − collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb − 1 recorded by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, we present an analysis of the decay D s + → π + π − e + ν e , where the D s + is produced via the process e + e − → D s * ± D s ∓ . We observe the f 0 ( 980 ) in the π + π − system and the branching fraction of the decay D s + → f 0 ( 980 ) e + ν e with f 0 ( 980 ) → π + π − measured to be ( 1.72 ± 0.1 3 stat ± 0.1 0 syst ) × 10 − 3 , where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The dynamics of the D s + → f 0 ( 980 ) e + ν e decay are studied with the simple pole parametrization of the hadronic form factor and the Flatté formula describing the f 0 ( 980 ) in the differential decay rate, and the product of the form factor f + f 0 ( 0 ) and the c → s Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element | V c s | is determined for the first time to be f + f 0 ( 0 ) | V c s | = 0.504 ± 0.01 7 stat ± 0.03 5 syst . Furthermore, the decay D s + → f 0 ( 500 ) e + ν e is searched for the first time but no signal is found. The upper limit on the branching fraction of D s + → f 0 ( 500 ) e + ν e , f 0 ( 500 ) → π + π − decay is set to be 3.3 × 10 − 4 at 90% confidence level. High-momentum configurations of nucleon pairs at short-distance are probed using measurements of the $^{12}$C$(e,e'p)$ and $^{12}$C$(e,e'pN)$ reactions (where $N$ is either $n$ or $p$), at high-$Q^2$ and $x_B>1.1$. The data span a missing-momentum range of 300--1000 MeV/c and are predominantly sensitive to the transition region of the strong nuclear interaction from a Tensor to Scalar interaction. The data are well reproduced by theoretical calculations using the Generalized Contact Formalism with both chiral and phenomenological nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction models. This agreement suggests that the measured high missing-momentum protons up to $1000$ MeV/c predominantly belong to short-ranged correlated (SRC) pairs. The measured $^{12}$C$(e,e'pN)$ / $^{12}$C$(e,e'p)$ and $^{12}$C$(e,e'pp)$ / $^{12}$C$(e,e'pn)$ cross-section ratios are consistent with a decrease in the fraction of proton-neutron SRC pairs and increase in the fraction of proton-proton SRC pairs with increasing missing momentum. This confirms the transition from an isospin-dependent tensor $NN$ interaction at $\sim 400$ MeV/c to an isospin-independent scalar interaction at high-momentum around $\sim 800$ MeV/c as predicted by theoretical calculation.
Based on a data sample of 10 billion J / ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, improved measurements of the Dalitz decays η / η ′ → γ e + e − are performed, where the η and η ′ are produced through the radiative decays J / ψ → γ η / η ′ . The branching fractions of η → γ e + e − and η ′ → γ e + e − are measured to be ( 7.07 ± 0.05 ± 0.23 ) × 10 − 3 and ( 4.83 ± 0.07 ± 0.14 ) × 10 − 4 , respectively. Within the single-pole model, the parameter of electromagnetic transition form factor for η → γ e + e − is determined to be Λ η = ( 0.749 ± 0.027 ± 0.007 ) GeV / c 2 . Within the multipole model, we extract the electromagnetic transition form factors for η ′ → γ e + e − to be Λ η ′ = ( 0.802 ± 0.007 ± 0.008 ) GeV / c 2 and γ η ′ = ( 0.113 ± 0.010 ± 0.002 ) GeV / c 2 . The results are consistent with both theoretical predictions and previous measurements. The characteristic sizes of the interaction regions for the η and η ′ are calculated to be ( 0.645 ± 0.023 ± 0.007 ) fm and ( 0.596 ± 0.005 ± 0.006 ) fm , respectively. In addition, we search for the dark photon in η / η ′ → γ e + e − , and the upper limits of the branching fractions as a function of the dark photon are given at 90% confidence level. With the data samples taken at center-of-mass energies from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis on the e + e − → π + π − π 0 process is performed. The Born cross sections for e + e − → π + π − π 0 and its intermediate processes e + e − → ρ π and ρ ( 1450 ) π are measured as functions of s . The results for e + e − → π + π − π 0 are consistent with previous results measured with the initial state radiation method within one standard deviation, and improve the uncertainty by a factor of ten. By fitting the line shapes of the Born cross sections for the e + e − → ρ π and e + e − → ρ ( 1450 ) π , a structure with mass M = 2119 ± 11 ± 15 MeV / c 2 and width Γ = 69 ± 30 ± 5 MeV is observed with a significance of 5.9 σ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. This structure can be interpreted as an excited ω state. Published by the American Physical Society 2024
The flux quantization is a key indication of electron pairing in superconductors. For example, the well-known h / 2 e flux quantization is considered strong evidence for the existence of charge- 2 e , two-electron Cooper pairs. Here we report evidence for multicharge flux quantization in mesoscopic ring devices fabricated using the transition-metal kagome superconductor CsV 3 Sb 5 . We perform systematic magnetotransport measurements and observe unprecedented quantization of magnetic flux in units of h / 4 e and h / 6 e in magnetoresistance oscillations. Specifically, at low temperatures, magnetoresistance oscillations with period h / 2 e are detected, as expected from the flux quantization for charge- 2 e superconductivity. We find that the h / 2 e oscillations are suppressed and replaced by resistance oscillations with h / 4 e periodicity when the temperature is increased. Increasing the temperature further suppresses the h / 4 e oscillations, and robust resistance oscillations with h / 6 e periodicity emerge as evidence for charge- 6 e flux quantization. Our observations provide the first experimental evidence for the existence of multicharge flux quanta and emergent quantum matter exhibiting higher-charge superconductivity in the strongly fluctuating region above the charge- 2 e Cooper pair condensate, revealing new insights into the intertwined and vestigial electronic order in kagome superconductors. Motivated by the recent observation of anomalous electron-positron angular correlations in the decay of the 18.15-MeV $\mathrm{1^+}$ excited states in $\mathrm{^8Be}$, we reexamine in detail the standard model expectations for these angular correlations. The 18.15-MeV state is above particle threshold, and several multipoles can contribute to its ${e^+}{e^-}$ decay. Here, we present the general theoretical expressions for ${e^+}{e^-}$ angular distributions for nuclear decay by $C0, C1, C2, M1, E1,$ and $E2$ multipoles, and we examine their relative contribution to the ${e^+}{e^-}$ decay of $\mathrm{^8Be}$ at 18.15 MeV. We find that this resonance is dominated by $M1$ to $E1$ decay, and that the ratio of $M1$ to $E1$ strength is a strong function of energy. This is in contrast to the original analysis of the ${e^+}{e^-}$ angular distributions, where the $M1/E1$ ratio was assumed to be a constant over the energy region ${E_p} = 0.8 – 1.2$ MeV. We find that the existence of a “bump” in the measured angular distribution is strongly dependent on the assumed $M1/E1$ ratio, with the present analysis finding the measured large-angle contributions to the ${e^+}{e^-}$ angular distribution to be lower than expectation. Thus, in the current analysis we find no evidence for axion decay in the 18.15-MeV resonance region of $\mathrm{^8Be}$.
Sound speed data measured using a dual-path pulse-echo instrument are reported for pure trans-1,2-dichloroethene (R-1130(E)) and an azeotropic blend of cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutene (R-1336mzz(Z)) and R-1130(E) with a composition of 74.8 mass % R-1336mzz(Z) with the balance being R-1130(E). The azeotropic blend of R-1336mzz(Z)/1130(E) is classified as R-514A in ANSI/ASHRAE standard 34. Liquid phase speed of sound data are reported from just above the saturation pressure of pure R-1130(E) or the bubble point pressure of R-514A to a maximum pressure of 26.7 MPa. The relative combined expanded uncertainty in the speed of sound varies from 0.032 % to 0.148 % with the greatest deviations occurring at the lowest sound speeds. At present, no reference Helmholtz-energy-explicit equation of state (EOS) is available for R-1130(E). Therefore, the reported data for pure R-1130(E) are compared to an extended corresponding states (ECS) model. Deviations between the pure R-1130(E) sound speed data and the ECS model were found to be consistently negative ranging between − 4.1 % and − 3.5 %. The R-514A data are compared to a multifluid model inclusive of the established reference Helmholtz-energy-explicit EOS for R-1336mzz(Z) and ECS model for R-1130(E) with estimated binary interaction parameters. Deviations between the experimental speed of sound data and the multifluid model were also found to be consistently negative. However, deviations from the multifluid model were found to be as great as − 17.1 %. The large deviations from the ECS model and multifluid model underscore the need for a robust Helmholtz-energy-explicit EOS for R-1130(E).
