X2000 power system electronics development

The Europa Orbiter mission, currently baselined for launch in March 2008, is intended to follow up on tantalizing results from the Gulileo spacecraft, data from which suggests that there may be a global Ocean underneath the jovian satellite Europa's water ice crust. Scientific objectives for the mission are to ascertain whether or not Europa has a liquid water ocean, to characterize ice layers beneath the surface, and to find the most scientifically enticing landing sites for future missions.

Preliminary Opto-Mechanical Design for the X2000 Transceiver

Preliminary optical design and mechanical conceptual design for a 30 cm aperture transceiver are described. A common aperture is used for both transmit and receive. Special attention was given to off-axis and scattered light rejection and isolation of the receive channel from the transmit channel. Requirements, details of the design and preliminary performance analysis of the transceiver are provided.

Deep Space Systems Technology Program (DSST-X2000) Future Deliveries

The number of deep space missions is increasing as we embark on a new era of exploration. New missions are "faster-better-cheaper" and cannot afford large individual investments in technology. A new process is needed fo allow these missions to take advantage of the technological breakthroughs that are critical to getting the cost down while increasing the science. The key is multimission technology development. NASA will make institutional investments in technology to benefit sets of missions. Continuous investment will provide a series of revolutions in technology to address common challenges in mission design and execution.

X2000 advanced avionics characterization study

The characterization study has shown that adjustments in an application's data accesses can easily create a performance difference of three or more times in actual applications. In general, by iterating over a small portion of a data set rather than its entirety, execution can remain within cache thereby producing a performance increase. Additionally, the approaches used in performing I/O can make a major performance difference.
