Theory Manual for the Reaction Summary Module- SUMMAR

The post-processing module of DIF3D called SUMMAR was created to produce commonly used reactor engineering outputs. It is a optional output option for DIF3D and provides alternative summarizes of power, flux, and neutron balance over the user specified regions and areas. It can also provide isotope-wise microscopic and macroscopic reaction rates along with the effective one-group microscopic cross sections needed for solving the Bateman equations. This report serves as both the theory manual, user guide, and software verification of the SUMMAR module. The methodology and equations for all SUMMAR calculated parameters are presented here and discussed. Then the verification work, based upon simple DIF3D models, is presented to validate the derived equations. The SUMMAR inputs and outputs are detailed and examples are given to demonstrate it.

SAM Theory Manual

The System Analysis Module (SAM) is an advanced and modern system analysis tool under development at Argonne National Laboratory for advanced non-LWR reactor safety analysis. It aims to provide fast-running, modest-fidelity, whole-plant transient analyses capabilities, which are essential for fast turnaround design scoping and engineering analyses of advanced reactor concepts. While SAM is being developed as a system-level modeling and simulation tool, advanced modeling techniques being implemented include a reduced-order three-dimensional module, pseudo 3-D conjugate heat transfer modeling in reactor core, flexible and multi-scale modeling of heat transfer between fluid and structures, in addition to the advances in software environments and design, and numerical methods. SAM aims to be a generic system-level safety analysis tool for advanced non-LWRs, including Liquid-Metal-cooled fast Reactors (LMR), Molten Salt Reactors (MSR), Fluoride-salt-cooled High-temperature Reactors (FHR), and High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGR). SAM takes advantage of advances in physical modeling, numerical methods, and software engineering to enhance its user experience and usability. It utilizes an object-oriented computational framework (MOOSE), and its underlying meshing and finite-element library and linear and non-linear solvers, to leverage the modern advanced software environments and numerical methods. This document provides the theoretical and technical basis of the code to help users understand the underlying physical models (such as governing equations, closure models, and component models), system modeling approaches, numerical discretization and solution methods, and the overall capabilities in SAM. As new code capabilities and features are added, the SAM Theory Manual will be updated periodically to keep it consistent with the state of the development.

Theory and User Manual for the Thermal Hydraulic Code SE2-ANL

A theory and user manual of thermal hydraulic code SE2-ANL was prepared in this work, to resolve the missing documentation. SE2-ANL, a special version of SUPERENERGY-2, is a multi-assembly steady-state Liquid Metal Reactor (LMR) core thermal hydraulic analysis code, and it was developed in the 1980s, but no complete documentation was ever made. This report describes the detailed methodology of the temperature calculation, inherited from (original) SUPERENERGY-2, and fuel and cladding temperature calculation capabilities as well as many other features which were incorporated in SE2-ANL. The input and output of SE2-ANL are also demonstrated in detail, using some simple models. The orificing zone capability as well as some other useful features of SE2-ANL are discussed.

User Manual for the Thermal Hydraulic Code SE2RCT

SE2-ANL is a modified version of SUPERENERGY-2 which interfaces the power distribution in the ANL maintained physics codes for the user. SE2RCT is a special version of SE2-ANL developed for specific use on models of the Experimental Breeder Reactor-II (EBR-II). SE2RCT fulfills a specific role in the calculated results as part of the Fuels Irradiation and Physics Database (FIPD) and is built to connect with the Physics and Analysis DataBase (PADB) for metallic fuel research and development in advanced sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs) created for EBR-II. SE2RCT is primarily a thermal analysis code that interfaces with the RCT based pin power details instead of the built-in pin power dehomogenization strategy in SE2-ANL. Beyond the thermal hydraulic calculation, the SE2RCT code provides detailed axial distributions of the RCT calculated results. SE2RCT also calculates the the axial distribution of pin wise DPA for the cladding materials which is part of the FIPD calculated results. This report serves as the user manual for SE2RCT and thus eliminates the QA gap of missing documentation on the SE2RCT software. All of the features and limitations of SE2RCT are documented in this report. The input and output specifications of SE2RCT are discussed in detail, and some unique features of SE2RCT, e.g. accurate pin power and temperature results for problems with non-uniform composition within an assembly, are also demonstrated and tested.

SpecFIDLER User Manual (Software V.2.6.0)

The Spectroscopic Field Instrument for Detection of Low Energy Radiation (SpecFIDLER) allows response teams to detect and quantify plutonium contamination on the ground. Notional scenarios include dispersion from a weapon accident, or the launch failure of a space probe containing a radioisotope thermoelectric generator. Unlike other instruments, the thin-window sodium iodide detector is sensitive to the low-energy gamma rays emitted by plutonium isotopes. The system supports both mobile survey as well as stationary sampling. This manual provides information about installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the SpecFIDLER. The scope of this document includes the physical hardware, software for data acquisition, and algorithms for data analysis. Recent changes to the software and algorithms aim to streamline the operation of the system.

Radiological Safety Analysis Computer (RSAC) Program Version 7.4 Users’ Manual

The Radiological Safety Analysis Computer (RSAC) Program Version 7.4 (RSAC-7) is the newest version of the RSAC legacy code. RSAC-7 calculates the consequences of a release of radionuclides to the atmosphere. Users generates a fission product inventory from either reactor operating history or a nuclear criticality event. RSAC-7 models the effects of high-efficiency particulate air filters or other cleanup systems and calculates the decay and ingrowth during transport through processes, facilities, and the environment. Doses are calculated for inhalation, air immersion, ground surface, ingestion, and cloud gamma pathways. RSAC-7 is used as a tool to evaluate accident conditions in emergency response scenarios, radiological sabotage events, and safety basis accident consequences. This users’ manual contains the mathematical models and operating instructions for RSAC-7. Instructions, screens, and examples are provided to guide the user through the functions provided by RSAC-7. This program is designed for users who are familiar with radiological dose assessment methods.

User Manual - HydraGNN v5.0: Distributed Implementation of Multi-Tasking Graph Neural Networks

This document serves as the user manual for HydraGNN v5.0, a scalable graph neural network (GNN) architecture for simultaneous prediction of multiple target properties using multi-task learning (MTL). This version of HydraGNN has been developed primarily to support the development, training, and deployment of predictive graph-based deep learning (DL) models for atomistic materials modeling. HydraGNN is templated over 13 message-passing policies, including invariant models (GIN, PNA, PNAPlus, GAT, MFC, CGCNN, SAGE, SchNet, DimeNet) and equivariant models (EGNN, PNAEq, PAINN, MACE), and supports distributed training via distributed data parallelism (DDP), DeepSpeed, and Fully Sharded Data Parallelism (FSDP) on leadership-class supercomputers. Although HydraGNN can be applied to problems beyond atomistic materials modeling, its current use is confined to homogeneous graphs. Additional capabilities include machine-learned interatomic potentials with energy-conserving forces, General, Powerful, and Scalable Graph Transformer (GraphGPS) global attention, periodic boundary conditions, hyperparameter optimization, mixed-precision training, and uncertainty quantification.
