A Multivibrational Mode Relaxation Scheme for Two-Temperature Thermochemical State Models

An approach to estimate the effective vibrational relaxation time for polyatomic molecules under the context of two-temperature thermochecmial state model is proposed. Landau-Teller vibrational relaxation equation is used as a basis, and vibrational energies are estimated with partition energy functions assuming harmonic oscillator model. A special weighting procedure is presented, and effective vibrational relaxation time is derived. A series of numerical experiments with CO2 and NH3 mixtures is performed, and the aeroheating results are presented. The results of CO2 environment simulations are compared with the vibrational relaxation model of Park et al. [JTHT, 8(1994), pp. 9–23]. The simulations are also conducted with a modified Landau-Teller expression.

Comparator With Noise Suppression

Comparator continuously and automatically adjusts noise immunity period. High-gain amplifier used in conjunction with multivibrator 4 to provide clear pulse to multivibrator 1 at first negative-going zero crossing of input signal. Once multivibrator 1 cleared, output goes to zero volts and not retriggered until next time positive input exceeds reference level. Since input signal noise at zero crossing does not exceed reference level, no effect on multivibrator 1 operation. Circuit fabricated using standard solid-state operational amplifiers, multivibrators, OR gates, and passive elements.

Regulated dc-to-dc converter for voltage step-up or step-down with input-output isolation

A closed loop regulated dc-to-dc converter employing an unregulated two winding inductive energy storage converter is provided by using a magnetically coupled multivibrator acting as duty cycle generator to drive the converter. The multivibrator is comprised of two transistor switches and a saturable transformer. The output of the converter is compared with a reference in a comparator which transmits a binary zero until the output exceeds the reference. When the output exceeds the reference, the binary output of the comparator drives transistor switches to turn the multivibrator off. The multivibrator is unbalanced so that a predetermined transistor will always turn on first when the binary feedback signal becomes zero.

Monostable circuit with tunnel diode has fast recovery

A monostable multivibrator circuit using a tunnel diode makes it possible for the MSMV to exceed the performance of present multivibrators in two respects. The rise time of the output voltage is faster and the duty cycle is raised to approximately 95 percent.

Variable frequency transistor inverters use multiple core transformers

Magnetic-coupled multivibrators containing two or more square-loop cores with multiple windings in a single transformer package, provide indirect frequency control and improved operational characteristics. This multivibrator can be used for power oscillators, nonlinear magnetic circuitry and telemetry circuits.

Power converter

A dc-to-dc converter employs four transistor switches in a bridge to chop dc power from a source, and a voltage multiplying diode rectifying ladder network to rectify and filter the chopped dc power for delivery to a load. The bridge switches are cross coupled in order for diagonally opposite pairs to turn on and off together using RC networks for the cross coupling to achieve the mode of operation of a free running multivibrator, and the diode rectifying ladder is configured to operate in a push-pull mode driven from opposite sides of the multivibrator outputs of the ridge switches. The four transistor switches provide a square-wave output voltage which as a peak-to-peak amplitude that is twice the input dc voltage, and is thus useful as a dc-to-ac inverter.

Comparator with noise suppression

An apparatus for generating a single pulse the first time only that a noisy cyclic signal exceeds a reference level during a half-cycle is disclosed. For the positive half of a cycle of the noisy cyclic signal, a comparator and a multivibrator produce a fixed voltage output when the noisy cyclic signal first exceeds the reference level. A multivibrator stops the production of the fixed voltage output when the noisy cyclic signal next passes the zero voltage level in the negative direction. Consequently, a single pulse is generated indicating that the signal exceeded the reference level during that half-cycle. The comparator and multi-vibrator produce pulses whenever the noisy cyclic signal exceeds the reference level during the negative half-cycle.

Circuit automatically calibrates flowmeter against liquid-level gage reference

Turbine-type flowmeter uses the flow of liquid from a tank with reed-type liquid level switches as a calibration reference. A circuit to generate a reliable gate signal consists of an input and switch identification stage, monostable and bistable multivibrators, and a signal inverter and pulse output stage.
