2011 Atlanta, Georgia, Regional Travel Survey

The 2011 Regional Travel Survey collected trip data from households across 20 counties in and around Atlanta, Georgia, to improve regional travel demand forecasts. The survey was conducted by PTV NuStats, GeoStats, and PG Americas Inc. on behalf of the Atlanta Regional Commission. The goal was to collect trip data from a minimum of 10,000 households with a subsample of 1,000 households providing global positioning system (GPS) data. The GPS add-on consisted of two sample groups. The first sample group was provided with GPS devices to install in their personal vehicles (797 vehicles) to collect the speed and location of a vehicle during an assigned study period. The second sample group (1,653 participants) was provided with a wearable GPS device to collect the speed and location of an individual during an assigned study period. People participating in the wearable add-on part of the study were chosen because their travel diaries reported use of public transit in day-to-day travel. Each GPS participant was grouped into either the spring phase (March to May 2011) or the fall phase (July to September 2011), and data were recorded for a maximum of seven days for vehicle units and three days for wearable units.

Puget Sound Regional Council 2006 Household Activity Survey

The purpose of the 2006 Puget Sound Regional Council Household Activity Survey was to provide data for travel demand models for the Puget Sound region, for the assessment of current activity and travel patterns, and for the estimation of future activity and travel within the region under various policy scenarios. One important goal of this project is to improve planners' ability to evaluate impacts of future policies and actions on travel patterns and transportation facility use through the development of a database. This database both captures the current status of activity and travel in the region and includes attitudes, preferences, and choices about activities and travel. In the design of the 2006 survey, basic demographics, activities, and tour and travel characteristics were collected for every member (including children) of 4,746 households during a consecutive 48-hour travel period. Vehicle global positioning system (GPS) data were collected from a subsample of 220 of these households, including completed activity/travel diaries for each household member. (Up to three vehicles per household were equipped with GPS units). The final GPS tracking data contained detailed information on the travel paths of 220 households with two vehicles in the same 48-hour period recorded in the diaries.

Utah FORGE: Updated Phase 2C Well Location Coordinates

Utah FORGE has been established to develop, test, and improve the technologies and techniques required to develop EGS-type geothermal resources. Drilling of the first of two deep deviated wells, 16A(78)-32, will begin in the second half of 2020. This well will serve as the injection well for the injection-production well pair that will form the heart of the laboratory. This submission contains an archive of well location data within the Roosevelt Hot Springs geothermal area. An Excel spreadsheet is included containing updated GPS data for Utah FORGE wells drilled during Phase 2C (56-32, 68-32, 78-32). This data was collected over time by the Utah Geological Survey and contains all coordinates collected and the final averaged XY coordinates in both Longitude and Latitude and UTM Zone 12, NAD83. Elevation is also included. GIS shapefiles with well points are provided in the archive.

Report on ISR-1 High-Altitude Balloon Flight

To test small technologies at lower cost for space science applications, LANL has developed a small high altitude balloon payload that could, in the future, be regularly and inexpensively launched from LANL. A neutron detector, NEMO, was integrated to evaluate its performance in a space-like mixed-radiation environment and collect neutron data in the atmosphere. In collaboration with EES-14, a high-altitude balloon payload was launched from LANL Technical Area 51 on February 27, 2023 and April 17, 2023. For real-time geolocation, a SAM-M8Q M8 GNSS module was used to get position and time, and an Iridium RockBLOCK 9603 was used to communicate with the ground using the Iridium satellite fleet. These modules were all controlled using an Iteaduino Mega microcontroller board. Finally, a High Altitude Science Eagle Flight Computer with a temperature pressure sensor ran independently, writing data to an SD card. All of these modules were powered by a 5 mAh lithium polymer battery. The battery was attached to the bottom of the payload while the remaining electronics were embedded in the underside of the top of the payload. These modules were wired as seen in Figure 1-2. The Iteaduino Mega microcontroller board was programmed to use the RockBLOCK to send a message once every 10 minutes containing neutron and GPS data read off the NEMO and SAM M8Q, respectively. Once the message send attempt finished, the RockBLOCK would be slept for the rest of the 10 minute interval. The Eagle Flight Computer ran continuously throughout the flight, taking data every 6 seconds. The RockBLOCK message data was set up to be delivered from the Iridium satellite fleet to a website, where it was stored and parsed to create live maps and plots for analysis and balloon retrieval. The RockBLOCK message data was additionally configured to be sent to an email as a fail-safe. The payload was ground-tested successfully for over 50 hours, with multiple revisions occurring to best prepare for conditions at altitude and improve the software and firmware to fix any issues that cropped up with the data pipeline. Additional to the balloon payload, the flight had an attached iMet-4 radiosonde and Garmin T5 GPS Dog Collar. The radiosonde provided GPS and meteorological data. The T5 dog collar is used along with a Garmin Astro 430 to track the balloon at a range of up to 9 miles for retrieval. The balloon itself was initially a 1600 g meteorological balloon with an attached High Altitude Science parachute, both of which can be seen in Figure 1-3. After the first flight, the EES team swapped to a Rocketman parachute.

2013-2014 Greater Fairbanks, Alaska, Transportation Survey

# 2013–2014 Greater Fairbanks, Alaska, Transportation Survey The 2013–2014 Greater Fairbanks Transportation Survey obtained behavior data for regional travel demand modeling. The planning region in Alaska comprised the North Star Borough—known as the PM2.5 nonattainment region—and included the cities of Fairbanks and North Pole. ## Data Collection Agency The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities conducted the survey. ## Methodology Data collection occurred in two phases: the first in fall 2013 and the second in winter 2014. The first phase employed address-based sampling to recruit more than 1,700 households for a one-day personal travel survey, and a sub-sample participated with global position system (GPS) and on-board diagnostic (OBD) loggers installed in their vehicles (282 vehicles) for one week. The purpose of phase one was to better understand the impact of vehicle emissions on air quality in the PM2.5 nonattainment region. Many of the households participating in the vehicle GPS/OBD portion of phase one were asked to participate in phase two. ## Drive Cycle Processing and Filtering NREL has developed a GPS data filtration routine to filter erroneous data points in individual drive cycles sourced from GPS devices mounted in vehicles. Second-by-second drive cycle data collected from GPS-instrumented vehicles during this survey have passed through NREL's drive cycle processing and filtering routines. ## Survey Records Survey records include 135 households. ## More Information For more information about the survey, see the [Greater Fairbanks Transportation Survey Final Report](https://www.nrel.gov/media/docs/libraries/tsdc/greater-fairbanks-transportation-survey-final-report.pdf?sfvrsn=16ecd45b_1). ## Transportation Data For details on available travel survey data and variable definitions, see the [data dictionary](https://www.nrel.gov/media/docs/libraries/tsdc/akdot_data_dictionary.pdf?sfvrsn=16778e11_1). Second-by-second drive cycle data collected from GPS-instrumented vehicles during this survey have passed through NREL's drive cycle processing and filtering routines. ## Survey Records Survey records include 135 households. ## More Information For more information about the survey, see the [Greater Fairbanks Transportation Survey Final Report](https://www.nrel.gov/media/docs/libraries/tsdc/greater-fairbanks-transportation-survey-final-report.pdf?sfvrsn=16ecd45b_1). ## Transportation Data For details on available travel survey data and variable definitions, see the [data dictionary](https://www.nrel.gov/media/docs/libraries/tsdc/akdot_data_dictionary.pdf?sfvrsn=16778e11_1).
