CTAS and NASA Air Traffic Management Fact Sheets for En Route Descent Advisor and Surface Management System

The Surface Management System (SMS) is a decision support tool that will help controllers, traffic managers, and NAS users manage the movements of aircraft on the surface of busy airports, improving capacity, efficiency, and flexibility. The Advanced Air Transportation Technologies (AATT) Project at NASA is developing SMS in cooperation with the FAA's Free Flight Phase 2 (FFP2) pro5ram. SMS consists of three parts: a traffic management tool, a controller tool, and a National Airspace System (NAS) information tool.

Space shuttle: News release

The space shuttle fact sheet is presented. Four important reasons for the program are considered to be: (1) It is the only meaningful new manned space program which can be accomplished on a modest budget. (2) It is needed to make space operations less complex and costly. (3) It is required for scientific applications in civilian and military activities. (4) It will encourage greater international participation in space flight. The space shuttle and orbiter configurations are discussed along with the missions. The scope of the study and the costs of each contract for the major contractor are listed.

Design data for brazed Rene 41 honeycomb sandwich

Strength data, creep data and residual strength data after cyclic thermal exposure were obtained at temperatures from 78 K to 1144 K (-320 F to 1600 F). The influences of face thickness, core depth, core gage, cell size and thermal/stress exposure conditions on the mechanical design properties were investigated. A braze alloy and process was developed that is adequate to fully develop the strength of the honeycomb core while simultaneously solution treating and aging the Rene 41 fact sheets. New test procedures and test specimen configurations were developed to avoid excessive thermal stresses during cyclic thermal exposure.
