Compilation of Experimental Yield Data for Spontaneous Fission of 252 Cf

We present a comprehensive compilation and curation of experimental fission yield (FY) data for the spontaneous fission of 252 Cf, extracted from the EXFOR database. The compilation follows a structured methodology developed for prior compilations of neutron-induced fission yields, and incorporates both independent (IFY) and cumulative (CFY) yields. A total of 62 datasets were reviewed, with entries spanning from 1955 to 2021. A significant portion of the literature reports pre-neutron emission yields, which were excluded from the present compilation due to limitations in format compatibility. Each accepted dataset was processed into a standardized JSON format, including metadata, uncertainties, and bibliographic references. Where available, decay radiation information was used to update the FY data using the latest ENSDF evaluations; 237 data points were corrected accordingly. These corrections are fully traceable and preserve original values. The result is a curated dataset suitable for use in nuclear data evaluations. This work is part of an ongoing effort to modernize the handling of FY data and provide evaluators with high-quality, machine-readable experimental inputs

140,142 Ce Neutron Cross Section Resolved Resonance Region Evaluation [Abstract]

A resolved resonance region evaluation of 140,142 Ce has been carried out by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Requested by the US Nuclear Criticality Safety Program, this evaluation is based on recent high-resolution transmission and capture high-resolution measurements of nat Ce and 142 Ce conducted at JRC-GEEL at the Geel Linear Accelerator facility, as well as recently measured thermal constants available from the EXFOR database. Starting from the resonance parameters from the ENDF/B-VIII.0 library and following a preliminary R-matrix analysis, an updated set of resonance parameters and corresponding covariance information was derived by the fit of these experimental datasets using the Reich-Moore approximation of the R-matrix theory as implemented in the SAMMY code system. The resolved resonance region upper energy limit for 140 Ce was kept at 200 keV while the 142 Ce resonance region was extended from 13 to 26 keV. This new evaluation was found to be in good agreement not only with several integral quantities of interest to the reactor physics community, but also with the stellar Maxwellian-averaged cross section.

Fitting $\overline{\nu}$ for minor Pu isotopes

After successful fitting of prompt $\overline{\nu}$ for 235 U, 238 U, and 239 Pu(n,f) using CGMF, we will move on to the minor plutonium isotopes. Minor isotopes pose a greater challenge both because there is less data available and we do not, by default, have parametrizations in CGMF already. To mitigate these challenges— and provide consistency within CGMF—we will take a stepped approach to the optimization. Continuing from the 239 Pu work, we will then fit 241 Pu(n,f) $\overline{\nu}$, where there is also a number of experimental measurements, keeping consistency between the parameters that are included in the calculation for 239 Pu and 241 Pu. With these parametrizations settled, we can consistently optimize 240 Pu(n,f) $\overline{\nu}$. Following that step, we will move on to 242 Pu(n,f) (and increasing neutron number) and 238 Pu(n,f) (and decreasing neutron number). By including the fissioning systems in this manner, we should be able to minimize the unknown parameters in CGMF. We will possibly also be able to develop systematics for the CGMF input parameters along the Pu isotopic chain. This work can serve as a guide to broadening the reactions available in CGMF. In this short report, we first give an example of how we have updated CGMF to include 240 Pu(n,f) and 242 Pu(n,f), keeping consistency with the current 239 Pu and 241 Pu calculations, but without rigorous optimization (Sec. 2). Then, we will shown in Section 3 what experimental data exist for the various isotopes to provide some insight into why 241 Pu and 239 Pu are used as anchor points.

Benchmark results with a new evaluation of 155 Gd and 157 Gd

Evaluations of gadolinium isotopes 155 Gd and 157 Gd in the resolved resonance region were performed with the code SAMMY. The main objective for revising the resonance evaluations of these isotopes was to address issues related to critical benchmark results.
