Search for Double Beta Decays of Xe134 with EXO-200 Phase II

EXO-200 was a leading double beta decay experiment consisting of a single-phase, enriched liquid xenon time projection chamber filled with an admixture of 80.672% ^{136}Xe and 19.098% ^{134}Xe. The detector operated at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant between 2010 and 2018 and was designed to search for double beta decay of ^{136}Xe. Data were acquired in two phases separated by a period of detector upgrades. We report on the search for 0νββ and 2νββ decay of ^{134}Xe with Phase II EXO-200 data, with median 90% CL exclusion sensitivity to half-life T_{1/2}^{0ν}≥3.7×10^{23} yr and T_{1/2}^{2ν}≥2.6×10^{21} yr, respectively. No statistically significant signal is observed for either decay mode. We set a world-leading lower limit on the half-life of the neutrinoless decay mode of ^{134}Xe of T_{1/2}^{0ν}≥8.7×10^{23} (90% CL) and the second strongest constraint on the two-neutrino decay of T_{1/2}^{2ν}≥2.9×10^{21} (90% CL), a threefold improvement over the EXO-200 Phase I measurement. New constraints are also set for the 2νββ and 0νββ decays of ^{134}Xe to the lowest excited state of ^{134}Ba.

How to describe collective decay of uncoupled modes in the input–output formalism

We extend the input–output formalism to study the behavior of uncoupled discrete modes (bosonic cavity modes and fermionic qubits) when they decay to the same Markovian continuum. When the continuum interacts with only a single mode, this decay is irreversible. However, when multiple modes decay to the same Markovian continuum they develop correlations and decay collectively. In the input–output formalism these correlations manifest in additional terms in the quantum Langevin equation. For two modes, this collective decay can dramatically extend the lifetimes of both modes (Dicke subradiance) and, within the single-mode subsystem, induces non-Markovian memory effects including energy backflow.

Study of ${B}_c^{+}$ meson decays to charmonia plus multihadron final states

Four decay modes of the ${B}_c^{+}$ meson into a J/ψ meson and multiple charged kaons or pions are studied using proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb -1 . The decay ${B}_c^{+}$ → J/ψK + K - π + π + π - is observed for the first time, and evidence for the ${B}_c^{+}$ → J/ψ4π + 3π - decay is found. The decay ${B}_c^{+}$ → J/ψ3π + 2π - is observed and the previous observation of the ${B}_c^{+}$ → ψ(2S)π + π + π - decay is confirmed using the ψ(2S) → J/ψπ + π - decay mode. Ratios of the branching fractions of these four ${B}_c^{+}$ decay channels are measured.

Rare multinucleon decays with the full data sets of the M AJORANA D EMONSTRATOR

The M AJORANA D EMONSTRATOR was an ultra-low-background experiment designed for neutrinoless double-beta decay (0⁢𝜈⁢𝛽⁢𝛽) investigation in 76 Ge . Located at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, the D EMONSTRATOR utilized modular high-purity Ge detector arrays within shielded vacuum cryostats, operating deep underground. The arrays, with a capacity of up to 40.4 kg (27.2 kg enriched to ∼88% in 76 Ge ), have accumulated the full data set, totaling 64.5 kg yr of enriched active exposure and 27.4 kg yr of exposure for natural detectors. Here, our updated search improves previously explored three-nucleon decay modes in Ge isotopes, setting new partial lifetime limits of 1.83 × 10 26 yr (90% confidence level) for 76 Ge (𝑝⁢𝑝⁢𝑝) → 73 Cu 𝑒 + ⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 + and 76 Ge (𝑝⁢𝑝⁢𝑛) → 73 Zn 𝑒 + ⁢𝜋 + . The partial lifetime limit for the fully inclusive triproton decay mode of 76 Ge is found to be 2.1×10 25 yr. Furthermore, we have updated limits for corresponding multinucleon decays.

Study of light-meson resonances decaying to K S 0 K π in the B → ( K S 0 K π ) K channels

A study is presented of B + → K S 0 K − π + K + and B + → K S 0 K + π − K + decays based on the analysis of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 . The K S 0 K π invariant-mass distributions of both B + decay modes show, in the m ( K S 0 K π ) < 1.85 GeV mass region, large activity which is resolved using an amplitude analysis. A simple model, where J P C amplitudes are described by multiple Breit-Wigner functions with appropriate angular distributions, provides a good description of the experimental data. In this approach a complex mixture of J P C = 0 − + , 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes is observed that is dominated by η ( 1405 ) , η ( 1470 ) , η ( 1760 ) , f 1 ( 1285 ) , f 1 ( 1420 ) and h 1 ( 1405 ) resonances. The K S 0 K π Dalitz plots are dominated by asymmetric crossing K * K ¯ bands which are different for the two B + decay modes. This is due to a different interference pattern between the 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes in the two channels. Branching fractions are measured for each resonant contribution. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

${\Lambda}_c^{+}$ polarimetry using the dominant hadronic mode

The polarimeter vector field for multibody decays of a spin-half baryon is intro duced as a generalisation of the baryon asymmetry parameters. Using a recent amplitude analysis of the ${\Lambda}_c^{+}$ → $pK^-π^+$ decay performed at the LHCb experiment, we compute the distribution of the kinematic-dependent polarimeter vector for this process in the space of Mandelstam variables to express the polarised decay rate in a model-agnostic form. The obtained representation can facilitate polarisation measurements of the ${\Lambda}_c^{+}$ baryon and eases inclusion of the ${\Lambda}_c^{+}$ → $pK^-π^+$ decay mode in hadronic amplitude analyses.

Search for light pseudoscalar boson pairs produced from Higgs boson decays using the 4τ and 2μ2τ final states in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV

A search for a pair of light pseudoscalar bosons (a 1 ) produced in the decay of the 125 GeV Higgs boson is presented. The analysis examines decay modes where one a 1 decays into a pair of tau leptons and the other decays into either another pair of tau leptons or a pair of muons. The a1 boson mass probed in this study ranges from 4 to 15 GeV. The data sample was recorded by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb −1 . No excess above standard model (SM) expectations is observed. The study combines the 4τ and 2μ2τ channels to set upper limits at 95% confidence level (CL) on the product of the Higgs boson production cross section and the branching fraction to the 4τ final state, relative to the Higgs boson production cross section predicted by the SM. In this interpretation, the a 1 boson is assumed to have Yukawa-like couplings to fermions, with coupling strengths proportional to the respective fermion masses. The observed (expected) upper limits range between 0.007 (0.011) and 0.079 (0.066) across the mass range considered. The results are also interpreted in the context of models with two Higgs doublets and an additional complex singlet field (2HD+S). The tightest constraints are obtained for the Type III 2HD+S model. In this case, assuming the Higgs boson production cross section equals the SM prediction, values of the branching ratio for the Higgs boson decay into a pair of a1 bosons exceeding 16% are excluded at 95% CL for a1 boson masses between 5 and 15 GeV and tan β > 2, with the exception of scenarios in which the a1 boson mixes with charm or bottom quark-antiquark bound states.

Probing the Higgs boson CP properties in vector-boson fusion production in the H → τ + τ − channel with the ATLAS detector

The CP properties of the Higgs boson are studied in the vector-boson fusion production mode. The analysis exploits the decay mode of the Higgs boson into two τ-leptons using 140 fb −1 of proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Results are obtained using the Optimal Observable method. CP-violating interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons are considered in the effective field theory framework, with the interaction strength described in the HISZ basis by $\tilde{d}$, and in the Warsaw basis by c H$\tilde{W}$ , c H$\tilde{B}$ , and c H$\tilde{W}$B . No deviations relative to the Standard Model are observed, and limits are obtained on the strength parameters. The $\tilde{d}$ parameter is constrained to the interval [−0.012, 0.044] at the 95% confidence level while c H$\tilde{W}$ is constrained to [−0.24, 0.83], when considering both linear and quadratic effects of physics beyond the Standard Model.

Limits on an exotic Higgs decay from a recast ATLAS four-lepton analysis

The ATLAS collaboration, using 139 fb −1 of 13 TeV collisions from the Large Hadron Collider, has placed limits on the decay of a Z boson to three dark photons. We reproduce the results of the ATLAS analysis, and then recast it as a limit on a exotic Higgs decay mode, in which the Higgs boson decays via a pair of intermediate (pseudo)scalars a to four dark photons V (or some other spin-one meson). Across the mass range for m a and m V , we find limits on the exotic Higgs branching fraction BR(H → aa → V V V V ) in the range of 4 × 10 −5 to 1 × 10 −4 .

Measurement of lepton universality parameters in B + → K + ℓ + ℓ – and B 0 → K* 0 ℓ + ℓ – decays

A simultaneous analysis of the B + → K + ℓ + ℓ – and B 0 → K* 0 ℓ + ℓ – decays is performed to test muon-electron universality in two ranges of the square of the dilepton invariant mass, q 2 . The measurement uses a sample of beauty meson decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb –1 . A sequence of multivariate selections and strict particle identification requirements produce a higher signal purity and a better statistical sensitivity per unit luminosity than previous LHCb lepton universality tests using the same decay modes. Residual backgrounds due to misidentified hadronic decays are studied using data and included in the fit model. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q 2 interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Wave modes of the Io plasma torus

The corotating magnetospheric convection model is analyzed with the objective of deriving the fundamental wave modes present in the Io torus. The time-dependent equations of motion are linearized for the case of the absence of plasma mass and momentum sources. By separating the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling equation into two equations and by adopting a specific analytic form for the equilibrium plasma density, a cubic equation is derived for the dispersion relation defining the angular frequencies of the fundamental wave modes. A detailed analysis of the dispersion relation yields three fundamental wave modes. One of the modes is identified as the previously studied inertial interchange (unstable) mode, while the other two are newly derived decaying modes. The results obtained are discussed in the context of plasma transport in the Io torus.

A mechanical model for elastic fiber microbuckling

A two-dimensional mechanical model is presented to predict the compressive strength of unidirectional fiber composites using technical beam theory and classical elasticity. First, a single fiber resting on a matrix half-plane is considered. Next, a more elaborate analysis of a uniformly laminated, unidirectional fiber composite half-plane is presented. The model configuration incorporates a free edge which introduces a buckling mode that originates at the free edge and decays into the interior of the half-plane. It is demonstrated that for composites of low volume fraction (less than 0.3), this decay mode furnishes values of buckling strain that are below the values predicted by the Rosen (1965) model. At a higher volume fraction the buckling mode corresponds to a half-wavelength that is in violation of the usual assumptions of beam theory. Causes for deviations of the model prediction from existing experimental results are discussed.

Hadronic mono- W ' probes of dark matter at colliders

Particle collisions at the energy frontier can probe the nature of invisible dark matter via production in association with recoiling visible objects. We propose a new potential production mode, in which dark matter is produced by the decay of a heavy dark Higgs boson radiated from a heavy W' boson. In such a model, motivated by left-right symmetric theories, dark matter would not be pair produced in association with other recoiling objects due to its lack of direct coupling to quarks or gluons. We study the hadronic decay mode via W' → tb and estimate the LHC exclusion sensitivity at 95% confidence level to be 10 2 - 10 5 fb for W' boson masses between 250 and 1750 GeV.

Search for B 0 → K *0 𝜏 + ⁢𝜏 − Decays at the Belle II Experiment

We present a search for the rare flavor-changing neutral-current decay 𝐵 0 →𝐾 *0 ⁢𝜏 + ⁢𝜏 − with data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider. The analysis uses a 365 fb −1 data sample recorded at the center-of-mass energy of the ϒ⁡(4⁢𝑆) resonance. One of the 𝐵 mesons produced in the ϒ⁡(4⁢𝑆)→𝐵 0 $⁢\overline{𝐵}$ 0 process is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, while its companion 𝐵 meson is required to decay into a 𝐾 *0 and two 𝜏 leptons of opposite charge. The 𝜏 leptons are reconstructed in final states with a single electron, muon, charged pion or charged 𝜌 meson, and additional neutrinos. We set an upper limit on the branching fraction of ℬ⁡(𝐵 0 →𝐾 *0 ⁢𝜏 + ⁢𝜏 − )<1.8×10 −3 at the 90% confidence level, which is the most stringent constraint reported to date.

Search for Isoscalar Resonances in yp ¿ wnp AT GLUEX

The GlueX experiment has produced the world?s largest statistics for peripheral photoproduction of mesons with a goal to search for exotic mesons. This document presents results on the search for possible intermediate resonances which decay to ??. Little is known for the states seen in this decay channel such as the ?(1420) and ?(1650). This channel also allows to search for the never seen exotics JPC = 0??, 2+?, and the elusive 2??. The ?, in this reaction, is identified via the ?+???0 decay mode and the ? and ?0 are identified via the decay to 2?. Data from the GlueX Phase I was analyzed. This data was obtained at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility utilizing the GlueX detector and a tagged linearly polarized photon beam incident on a liquid hydrogen target. A model using the expected major wave contributors, 1+? and 1??, shows two structure in the region where the ?(1420) and ?(1650) are expected. A third structure is seen at threshold with the quantum numbers of an h1 resonance, however, more studies are needed to assert the nature of this structure. Instabilities on the m = ±1 were shown to come from mathematical ambiguities. This only occurs between the m = 1 and m = ?1 projections when both reflectivities are present in close amount. Expanding the intensity equation for a single wave allows to extract coefficients that can help describe the data. A tangent study is also presented in this document which consists on a direct fit to the lineshape of an isolated N(1535). This baryonic resonance is well established, but its Breit-Wigner parameters have only been obtained from partial wave analysis. In contrast, this study obtained the Breit-Wigner parameters using a direct fit and finds the value of the width to be 70.5± 9.2 MeV; this is half of the accepted value.

Search for the Lepton Flavor Violating Decays B + → K + τ ± ℓ ∓ ( ℓ = e , μ ) at Belle

We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decays B + → K + ⁢$\tau$ ±⁢ ℓ ∓ , with ℓ = (e,μ), using the full data sample of 772×10 6 B$\overline{B}$ pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + ⁢e - collider. We use events in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. We find no evidence for B ± → K ±⁢ $\tau$⁢ℓ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at the 90% confidence level in the (1 - 3) × 10 -5 range. The obtained limits are the world’s best results.
