DIS physics at the EIC and LHeC and connections to the future LHC and $\nu$A programs

Deeply-inelastic scattering (DIS) stands to enter a golden age with the prospect of precision programs at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC). While these programs will be of considerable importance to resolving longstanding issues in (non)perturbative QCD as well as hadronic and nuclear structure, they will also have valuable implications for a wider range of physics at the Energy and Intensity Frontiers, including at the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and future \nu A ν A facilities. In this plenary contribution, we highlight a number of salient examples of the potential HEP impact from the complementary EIC and LHeC programs drawn from their respective Yellow Report and Whitepaper. Interested readers are encouraged to consult the extensive studies and literature from which these examples are taken for more detail.

Extraction of the worm-gear TMD g1t from COMPASS , HERMES and JLab data on semi-inclusive DIS

Transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) are an important class of functions required to understand the 3D structure of hadrons in terms of their underlying partons. One of the least known TMDs in terms of a global QCD analysis is the worm-gear TMD g1t . It carries the probabilistic interpretation of finding longitudinally polarized quarks inside transversely polarized hadrons. In this proceedings, we present the first-ever global QCD analysis of the semi-inclusive DIS $A^ {cos(φ_h-φ_S)}_{LT}$ data using Monte Carlo techniques to extract the worm-gear TMD g1T . The relevant data are available from COMPASS, HERMES and JLab. We compare our results for g1T with different theoretical approaches, including the large-N c approximation, the Wandzura Wilczek-type approximation, and lattice QCD.

Systematic uncertainty of off-shell corrections and higher-twist contribution in DIS at large x

We study the systematic uncertainty and biases introduced by theoretical assumptions needed to include large-x DIS data in a global QCD analysis. Working in the CTEQ-JLab framework, we focus on different implementations of higher-twist corrections to the nucleon structure functions and of offshell PDF deformations in deuteron targets and discuss how their interplay impacts the extraction of the d -quark PDF and the calculation of the neutron structure function at large x.

Robust extraction of power corrections and nuclear dynamics from DIS at large $x$

We present recent updates from the CTEQ-JLab (CJ) global PDF analysis, focusing on the interplay and implementation systematics of the HT and offshell correction (CJ22ht). We also discuss preliminary results of the CJ25 global analysis, showing the impact of the full JLab 6 GeV datasets, that we recently collected in a comprehensive DIS database, and having a first look at early JLab 12 GeV measurements. We finally offer a few thoughts on how future data may help unraveling the nuclear and partonic dynamics in light nuclei.

A novel formulation of the unintegrated gluon distribution for DIS

We provide a semi-classical description of the inclusive gluon mediated Deep Inelastic Scattering cross section in a way that accounts for the leading powers in both the Regge and Bjorken limits. Our approach thus allows a systematic matching of small and moderate xBj regimes of gluon proton structure functions. We find a new unintegrated gluon distribution with an explicit dependence on the longitudinal momentum fraction x which entirely spans both the dipole operator and the gluonic Parton Distribution Function. Computing this gauge invariant gluon operator on the lattice could allow to probe the energy dependence of the saturation scale from first principles.

Heavy-quark contributions to the DIS structure functions F 4 and F 5 at NLO in the ACOT scheme

We compute the contributions of heavy quarks to the deep-inelastic scattering structure functions F 4 and F 5 at next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD in the ACOT scheme. Both analytic results including the details of the calculation as well as numerical results for the neutral and charged current cases are presented. Our study thus lays the groundwork for future measurements of these two structure functions in experiments such as the SHiP experiment.

Dijet impact factor in DIS at next-to-leading order in the Color Glass Condensate

In this work, we compute the next-to-leading order impact factor for inclusive dijet production in deeply inelastic electron-nucleus scattering at small x Bj . Our computation, performed in the framework of the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory, includes all real and virtual contributions in the gluon shock wave background of all-twist lightlike Wilson line correlators. We demonstrate explicitly that the rapidity evolution of these correlators, to leading logarithmic accuracy, is described by the JIMWLK Hamiltonian. When combined with the next-to-leading order JIMWLK Hamiltonian, our results for the impact factor improve the accuracy of the inclusive dijet cross-section to \( \mathcal{O} \) ( \( {\alpha}_s^2 \) ln( x f /x Bj )), where x f is a rapidity factorization scale. These results are an essential ingredient in assessing the discovery potential of inclusive dijets to uncover the physics of gluon saturation at the Electron-Ion Collider.

Dihadron correlations in small- x DIS at NLO: transverse momentum dependent fragmentation

We compute the inclusive dihadron cross-section in Deep Inelastic Scattering at next-to-leading order (NLO) and small x in the Color Glass Condensate. We focus on the kinematic limit where the hadrons are produced at forward rapidities (in the direction of the virtual photon) and back-to-back in the transverse plane. Our calculation demonstrates that the coefficient of the Sudakov double logarithm for this process is –$\frac{αs}{2π}$ [C F + $\frac{Nc}{2}$] instead of –$\frac{αsNc}{4π}$ when back-to-back jets are measured in the final state. To preserve the universality of the Sudakov soft factor associated with the Weizsäcker-Williams transverse momentum dependent (TMD) gluon distribution, we promote the collinear fragmentation functions into TMD fragmentation functions. We then perform the resummation of the Sudakov logarithms through Collins-Soper-Sterman evolution of the TMD fragmentation functions and the Weizsäcker-Williams TMD gluon distribution. Finally, analytic expressions are obtained for the NLO coefficient functions in the $\overline{MS}$-scheme. These results pave the way towards numerically calculating dihadron correlations at small x at the future Electron-Ion Collider with full NLO accuracy.

Suspending democratic (dis)belief: Nonliberal energy polities of solar power in Morocco and Tanzania

This paper proposes the concept of technodemocratic imaginaries (TDIMs) to supplement the widely-used framework of sociotechnical imaginaries (STIMs) for analyzing nonliberal political contexts in energy social science research. Taking the power of coproductionist analysis of STIMs seriously, TDIMs highlight the inherent instabilities within overarching STIMs by arguing that not only are particular groups marginalized and excluded but that they continue to practice and mobilize their own imaginaries of collective governance and justice vis-à-vis energy systems. In contrast, the existing idea of contested STIMs, in which a shared mode of knowledge politics undergirds different imaginaries, casts aside subaltern modes of political engagement and knowledge-making. TDIMs expand conceptions of democracy to include shared practices of credibility in nonliberal political orders. The intent is not to promote democratic relativism but rather to ask scholars and international energy-access practitioners to suspend their democratic disbelief when studying energy matters in so-called nonliberal contexts. We develop the concept of TDIMs by comparing two African nation-states–Morocco and Tanzania–to show how the states and subaltern groups do (or do not) develop TDIMs related to solar power. While international governance organizations often portray Morocco as authoritarian and Tanzania corrupt, each state differently experienced colonization and decolonization and practices different relationships with domestic subaltern groups. Whereas low-income citizens and indigenous groups seek integration into the Moroccan state’s STIM, the Maasai in Tanzania chart their own TDIM separate from the state and international development groups.

Metal Atom (Dis)Order and Superconductivity in YCaH n ( n = 8–20) High-Pressure Superhydrides

High-pressure superhydrides have attracted much attention due to their high superconducting critical temperatures (T c s). Our density functional theory (DFT) calculations, focusing on YCaH n (n = 8–20) compositions, found a number of nearly isoenthalpic YCaH 8 phases, differing only in the arrangement of the metal atoms, suggesting the potential stability of metal alloy superhydrides. The computed T c s of the considered YCaH 8 phases were higher than those of the isostructural I 4/ mmm MH 4 parent compounds. DFT enthalpies suggested that YCaH 12 could also be disordered; however, the T c s of the ordered variants spanned a wide range from 105 to 253 K at 200 GPa, showing that alloying could either mildly enhance or drastically reduce T c from that of the $Im\bar{3}m$ MH 6 parents. Finally, for YCaH 18 and YCaH 20 , only a single dynamically stable ordered superhydride was found, which we attribute to the differences in the structures of the most stable MH 9 and MH 10 binary hydride parents.

Back-to-back dijet production in DIS at arbitrary Bjorken x: TMD gluon distributions to twist-3 accuracy

We derive the gluon transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) operator structure of back-to-back\\\\r\\\\nquark–antiquark dijet production in deep inelastic scattering at arbitrary Bjorken-x to twist-3 ac\\\\r\\\\ncuracy. Working at leading order in the strong coupling and in the kinematic regime where the\\\\r\\\\ntransverse momentum imbalance of the jets is much smaller than their individual transverse mo\\\\r\\\\nmenta, we perform a systematic gradient expansion of the quark propagator in a background gluon\\\\r\\\\nfield. This expansion organizes multiple interactions with the target in terms of longitudinal Wilson\\\\r\\\\nlines and gauge-invariant field-strength insertions, yielding a TMD description valid beyond the\\\\r\\\\nstrict high-energy eikonal (x → 0) approximation. We obtain explicit cross sections for longitudi\\\\r\\\\nnally and transversely polarized virtual photons, identifying all contributing gluon TMD operators\\\\r\\\\nup to twist-3, including structures involving F+−, Fij, and three-gluon correlators. The full lon\\\\r\\\\ngitudinal phase eixP+z− associated with Bjorken-x is retained throughout. In the small-x limit,\\\\r\\\\nour results reproduce the known sub-eikonal expressions obtained in the Color Glass Condensate\\\\r\\\\nframework, establishing a direct connection between the general-x TMD expansion and high-energy\\\\r\\\\nfactorization. We further reduce the operator basis using equations of motion, minimizing the num\\\\r\\\\nber of independent nonperturbative matrix elements entering the cross section. This work provides\\\\r\\\\na systematic foundation for extending TMD analyses of dijet production beyond leading twist, es\\\\r\\\\ntablishing a unified operator framework valid at arbitrary Bjorken-x that smoothly interpolates\\\\r\\\\nbetween moderate- and small-x descriptions of gluon TMDs.
