Digital computer prototype for use in automatic control program for machining on a milling machine
The dependence of the Bode response upon digital sample rate for first and second order linear continuous systems driven by a digital computer is derived. Open loop lead compensation introduced within the digital computer in order to increase the system bandwidth is also examined in terms of derived Bode responses. This introduction of lead terms within the digital computer is shown to be effective at operating frequencies below the Nyquist frequency. In most practical applications, empirical determination of these lead coefficients appears to be a sufficient compensation method.

A technique was developed with the help of a digital computer for analytic (algebraic) solutions of autonomous and nonautonomous equations. Two operational transform techniques have been programmed for the solution of these equations. Only relatively simple nonlinear differential equations have been considered. In the cases considered it has been possible to assimilate the secular terms into the solutions. For cases where f(t) is not a bounded function, a direct series solution is developed which can be shown to be an analytic function. All solutions have been checked against results obtained by numerical integration for given initial conditions and constants. It is evident that certain nonlinear differential equations can be solved with the help of a digital computer.

Flight weight digital computers are being used today to carry out many of the propulsion system control functions previously delegated exclusively to hydromechanical controllers. An operational digital computer facility for propulsion control mode studies has been used successfully in several experimental programs. This paper describes the system and some of the results concerned with engine control, inlet control, and inlet engine integrated control. Analytical designs for the digital propulsion control modes include both classical and modern/optimal techniques.
