New calorimeter technology is being developed for future collider experiments. We are developing a calorimeter that integrates two technologies, a high-granularity calorimeter and a dual-readout calorimeter, and has high time resolution at a picosecond level. The proposed calorimeter is a sampling calorimeter based on scintillation and Cherenkov detectors with high-granularity readout. The Cherenkov detector has a picosecond level time resolution. For the high-granularity scintillation detector, scintillator strips of 300mm × 30mm ×3mm-thick are aligned horizontally and vertically to realize an effective 30mm-square-cell segmentation. Prototype strips with different designs and scintillator materials were tested to compare the performance.
This paper reports on a measurement of electron-ion recombination in liquid argon in the ICARUS liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC). A clear dependence of recombination on the angle of the ionizing particle track relative to the drift electric field is observed. An ellipsoid modified box (EMB) model of recombination describes the data across all measured angles. These measurements are used for the calorimetric energy scale calibration of the ICARUS TPC, which is also presented. The impact of the EMB model is studied on calorimetric particle identification, as well as muon and proton energy measurements. Accounting for the angular dependence in EMB recombination improves the accuracy and precision of these measurements.

ICARUS (Imaging Cosmic And Rare Underground Signals) is a liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) detector that pursues the sterile neutrino, which relies on accurate simulations of neutrino-argon interactions. REDTOP (Rare Eta Decays To Observe new Physics) is a proposed low-energy, high-intensity meson factory designed to explore rare $\eta$/$\eta'$ meson decays and probe physics beyond the Standard Model. As a next-generation experiment, this requires both accurate simulations and innovative detector technologies. This project contributes to both ICARUS, from a simulation perspective, and REDTOP, from both a simulation and detection perspective, through the event generation of lepton-nucleon interactions and the physical enhancement of the calorimeter technology within the REDTOP detector. We developed an interface between ACHILLES (A CHIcago Land Lepton Event Simulator), a theory-driven lepton-level event generator, and GENIE, a robust event generator framework used for neutrino physics. By incorporating the precise theoretical cross-section calculations of ACHILLES into the experimental realism of GENIE, the interface allows for improved accuracy of neutrino-nucleon simulations, which can be adapted for the proton beam specifications of the REDTOP meson factory as well as for the ICARUS experiment. In parallel, we developed an improved prototype for the ADRIANO2 (A Dual Readout Integrally Active Non-segmented Option) dual-readout calorimeter tiles for the REDTOP detector. To improve the efficiency of the lead-glass tiles trapping Cherenkov light for energy reconstruction and particle identification, we optimized the application of a highly reflective coating. Through viscosity and thickness control, masking, and a custom spray technique, we refined the coating process to reduce surface defects and improve light yield. Together, these efforts strengthen the ICARUS neutrino program and REDTOP's capability of detecting rare decay events.

Here, we investigate MeV-scale electron neutrino charged current interactions in a liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) equipped with an enhanced photon detection system. Using simulations of deposited energy in charge and light calorimetry, we explore the potential for dual calorimetric neutrino energy reconstruction. We found energy reconstruction based on light-only calorimetry has a better resolution than combined charge and light calorimetry when hadrons are produced in these events. Meanwhile, enhanced light detection offers improved nanosecond timing resolution and broad optical coverage, enabling neutron tagging and identification of delayed low-energy gamma emissions. These advancements open new avenues in low-energy neutrino physics in next-generation LArTPCs.
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is an experiment under construction that will employ 10-kt scale liquid-argon-TPC technology to do precision measurements of neutrino oscillations. Apart from the determination of CP violation in neutrino interactions, one of the main scientific goals of DUNE is the detection of neutrinos from a supernova burst. It is imperative to maximise the potential of the detector for extracting information for these rare events. The use of light signals to aid the calorimetry of neutrino interactions provides such potential. We will present current efforts to demonstrate the application of combined calorimetry in one of the DUNE prototype detectors at CERN. The ground-level placement of the detector allows collection of large samples of cosmic-ray muons stopping within its volume. Michel electrons from muon decay can be identified in both the ionization charge and scintillation light, serving as a proxy for supernova neutrino interactions at O(10) MeV energies. The method for demonstrating combined calorimetry and its associated challenges will be introduced. We will also summarise the current analysis status and future prospects.
A comprehensive multi-jet physics program is anticipated for experiments at future colliders. Key physics processes necessitate detectors that can distinguish signals from W and Z bosons and the Higgs boson. Typical examples include channels with or pairs and processes involving new physics in those cases where neutral particles must be disentangled from charged ones due to the presence of W or Z bosons in their final states. Such a physics program demands calorimetric energy resolution at or beyond the limits of traditional calorimetric techniques. Multiple-readout calorimetry, which aims to reduce fluctuations in energy measurements of hadronic showers, is a promising approach. The first part of this article reviews dual- and triple-readout calorimetry within a mathematical framework describing the underlying compensating mechanism. The second part proposes a potential implementation using an integrally active and total absorption detector. This model serves as the basis for several Monte Carlo studies, illustrating how the response of a multiple-readout calorimeter depends on construction parameters. Among the layouts considered, one configuration operating in triple-readout mode shows the potential to achieve an energy resolution approaching .
