AmeriFlux US-TLR Timberlake Observatory for Wetland Restoration (TOWeR)

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site US-TLR Timberlake Observatory for Wetland Restoration (TOWeR). Site Description - This tower is located in Timberlake Forest, a restored forested wetland located 4 km from Albermarle Sound on the North Carolina coast. The forest to the south of the tower had historically been ditched, drained and converted to agricultural land, and subsequently reforested with Black Gum and Cypress trees and naturally re-wetted in 2006. This southern region has a bottomland forest ecosystem which saw a large-scale succession event of pine trees following the reforestation efforts. The northern part of the forest had been ditched, but never drained or converted for other land uses. It is much wetter and more sparsely vegetated when compared to the southern region, and has a mixed bottomland forest and swamp ecosystem.

AmeriFlux CA-RBM Richmond Brackish Marsh

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site CA-RBM Richmond Brackish Marsh. Site Description - This site is a tidal brackish marsh on the southern side of the Sturgeon Bank Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. This area is situated within the estuary of the Fraser River. The total area of Sturgeon Bank WMA is 5,152 ha, of which the tidal marsh area is 205 ha. The southern of the WMA is characterized as a brackish marsh, which transitions to a salt marsh as you go north. Human development has influenced this area for almost 200 years. Human activities in this area began in the early 1800s, which included dredging, dyke and entrainment structures, agriculture, and other uses. The areas were designated as WMA in 1998. This area experiences a semidiurnal tidal cycle. The flux tower is located near the southern edge of the marsh, where the dominant species is cattail (Typha latifolia), with a canopy height of 160 cm. The tower is in a high marsh system and was installed to analyze energy, H2O, CO2, and CH4 fluxes on June 1, 2022.

AmeriFlux CA-TPA Ontario Turkey Point Observatory Agricultural Site

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site CA-TPA Ontario Turkey Point Observatory Agricultural Site. Site Description - This agricultural flux tower site is located about 15 km southwest of Simcoe in southern Ontario, Canada. It was planted with corn (Zea mays) in 2020 and 2021, sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) in 2022 and tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) in 2023. The site is part of Turkey Point Environmental Observatory (TPEO). The establishment of the agricultural site has allowed TPEO to become representative of the major biomes in the Great Lakes region, encompassing coniferous and deciduous forests, as well as agricultural crops. The soil at this agricultural site is well-drained fine sandy loam. The area has a humid continental climate and has one of the longest-growing seasons in Canada with at least 150–160 frost-free days in a year.

AmeriFlux US-MEF Manitou Experimental Forest

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site US-MEF Manitou Experimental Forest. Site Description - This site was established on an existing 30-m tower structure at the Forest Service's Manitou Experimental Forest, Colorado. Manitou Experimental Forest is located approximately 38 km northwest of Colorado Springs, within the Pike National Forest. The tower was constructed and used between 2008 and 2013 by NCAR for the BEACHON project and has line power and internet connections. The tower is located in approximately 12 km^2 of ponderosa pine forest and savannah with a land use history of thinning and prescribed burning, though these disturbances have not occurred for many years. The tower is situated in a broad, flat valley that drains to the north. Early research at the site was focused mainly on grazing, while more recently it has turned broadly to the ecology and management of ponderosa pine ecosystems. In 2002, the Hayman Fire burned approximately 56,000 ha to the west and northwest of the tower location.
