Planar tunneling spectroscopy on van der Waals superconductors with AlO x junction grown by atomic layer deposition

Here, we demonstrate a method for fabricating a high-quality AlO x -based planar tunnel junction using atomic layer deposition, integrated with the exfoliation and transfer techniques for van der Waals (vdW) materials. The tunneling spectroscopy results on exfoliated Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+δ and 2H-NbSe 2 vdW superconductors are highly consistent with that obtained by ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling spectroscopy on atomically clean surfaces. The planar tunneling devices enable high-precision spectroscopy over a wide range of temperatures and magnetic fields and reveal novel features and stark contrast between high-T C cuprates and conventional superconductors. This method represents a universally applicable technique for probing the electronic structure of various two-dimensional vdW materials.

Diffusive and ballistic transport in thin InSb nanowire devices using a few-layer-graphene-AlO x gate

Abstract Quantum devices based on InSb nanowires (NWs) are a prime candidate system for realizing and exploring topologically-protected quantum states and for electrically-controlled spin-based qubits. The influence of disorder on achieving reliable quantum transport regimes has been studied theoretically, highlighting the importance of optimizing both growth and nanofabrication. In this work, we consider both aspects. We developed InSb NW with thin diameters, as well as a novel gating approach, involving few-layer graphene and atomic layer deposition-grown AlO x . Low-temperature electronic transport measurements of these devices reveal conductance plateaus and Fabry–Pérot interference, evidencing phase-coherent transport in the regime of few quantum modes. The approaches developed in this work could help mitigate the role of material and fabrication-induced disorder in semiconductor-based quantum devices.

Theoretical study of the AlO blue-green (B2Sigma + - X2Sigma +) band system

Two independent, extensive theoretical calculations are reported for the relative band strengths of the AlO (B2Sigma + - X2Sigma +) blue-green system and for the radiative lifetimes of the lowest few vibrational levels of the B2Sigma(+) state. The theoretical lifetimes, which include a small (less than -.5 percent) contribution from bound-bound transitions into the A2Pi state, are in excellent agreement with laser fluorescence studies. The theoretical lifetimes increase monotonically and very slowly with increasing vibrational quantum number. The relative band strengths for the blue-green system derived from the two theoretical calculations are in excellent agreement, but differ systematically from the relative band strengths of Linton and Nicholls (1969). The present results suggest that their self-absorption corrections are not large enough, resulting in relative intensities that are too large, especially for the weak bands with r centroids less than 1.5 A.

Mangrove Mapping with the Freeman-Durden Polarimetric Decomposition and Insar Coherence from ALOS-2

We map mangrove extents in Pongara National Park, Gabon using the Freeman-Durden Decomposition and InSAR Coherence derived from ALOS-2 imagery. Specifically, we obtain a land cover map derived from both this polarimetric decom-position and a 14-day repeat-pass coherence. Our classification model and results are highly interpretable based on a depth 2 decision tree. We further illustrate the correlation between InSAR coherence and height obtaining rough man-grove height estimates from TanDEM-X data. From our results, we observe that repeat-pass interferometric coherence provides invaluable information about mangrove extents and coastal forests. The clear identification of mangrove extents presents a significant opportunity for NISAR, which will pro-vide 12-day repeat pass images over coastal areas globally.

The microwave spectrum of the AlO radical

The rotational spectrum of the aluminum monoxide radical in the ground electronic state X 2Sigma(+) was observed in the millimeter- and submillimeter-wave region. Aluminum monoxide radicals were generated directly in a flow reactor absorption cell by the reaction of N2O with aluminum vaporized from a high-temperature crucible. The observed spectrum was analyzed to yield molecular constants including the rotational constant, centrifugal distortion constant, spin-rotation interaction constant, magnetic hyperfine interaction constants, and nuclear quadrupole coupling constant.
