Cable clamp bolt fixture facilitates assembly in close quarters

Cable clamp bolt holding fixture facilitates forming of electrical cable runs in limited equipment space. The fixture engages the threads of the short clamp bolt through the clamp and maintains tension against clamp tendency to open while the operator installs the nut without difficulty.

Metal flame spray coating protects electrical cables in extreme environment

Metal flame spray coating prevents EMF measurement error in sheathed instrumentation cables which are externally attached to cylinders which were cooled on the inside, but exposed to gamma radiation on the outside. The coating provides a thermoconductive path for radiation induced high temperatures within the cables.

Protected, high-temperature connecting cable

Ceramic insulated, swaged stainless steel, sheathed, protective atmosphere cable admits electrical leads into an 1800 deg F air-environment test chamber. The cable has some bending capability and provides for nine niobium alloy conductors. An argon purge during the TIG weld closure protects internal wires from oxidation and embrittlement.

Rectangular configuration improves superconducting cable

Superconducting cable for a cryogenic electromagnet with improved mechanical and thermal properties consists of a rectangular cross-sectioned combination of superconductor and normal conductor. The conductor cable has superconductors embedded in a metallic coating with high electrical and mechanical conductivity at liquid helium temperatures.

Coaxial cable stripper for confined areas

Manual coaxial cable stripper quickly and accurately prepares a coaxial cable in a confined area. With this tool, preparation time is greatly reduced, and a completely inexperienced technician can perform the operation.

Pyrotechnic-actuated cable release

Remote, unattended means has been designed and reduced to practice that retains and then releases an attached load by means of a restrained cable. The cable is released by an electrical impulse on signal.

Experimental prediction of performance by superconducting cables

Broken superconductor method of short sample testing makes possible the prediction of the performance of well cooled, stabilized, superconducting cable coils. It yields a field-versus-current curve for a short sample of cable. Plots are given for the superconductor and copper currents at various magnetic field strengths.

Flat-conductor cable has rotary and linear flexibility

Report describes capabilities and limitations of flat-conductor cable /FCC/ relative to flexure in bending, folding, rotating, and extending, it also compares FCC mechanical and endurance characteristics with round-wire cable, and compares qualities of various types of insulation for FCC. Several configurations exemplify FCC flexibility.

Folding tools for flat conductor cable harnesses

Vise grip pliers have detachable metal gripping plates which are changed to accommodate cables from 1 to 3 in. wide and to form any desired fold angle. A second tool squeezes cable along crease to complete the fold.

Clocking connector replaces adapter cables

Single cable using simplified, versatile clocking connector satisfies clocking variations that previously required many cables. Connector consists of specially fabricated grommet follower dial housing, dial assembly, and modified insert.

Heart catheter cable and connector

Ultraminiature catheter cables that are stiff enough for intravenous insertion yet flexible at the tip, sterilizable, and economical are fabricated entirely from commercially available parts. Assembly includes air passageway for reference pressures and coaxial cable for transmission of signals from the tip of catheter.

Slitting flat conductor cables with the single cutting edge slitter

Manually operated slitter can cut single slit in flat conductor cable to any desired length. Lateral position of flat conductor cable is adjusted with aid of optical magnifier and cursor glass to ensure that slit is accurately placed between conductors. Multiple slits may be made by repeating procedure for single slit.

A study analysis of cable-body systems totally immersed in a fluid stream

A general stability analysis of a cable-body system immersed in a fluid stream is presented. The analytical portion of this analysis treats the system as being essentially a cable problem, with the body dynamics giving the end conditions. The mathematical form of the analysis consists of partial differential wave equations, with the end and auxiliary conditions being determined from the body equations of motion. The equations uncouple to give a lateral problem and a longitudinal problem as in first order airplane dynamics. A series of tests on a tethered wind tunnel model provide a comparison of the theory with experiment.
