RATFOR user's guide version 2.0

This document is a user's guide for RATFOR at Ames Research Center. The main part of the document is a general description of RATFOR, and the appendix is devoted to a machine specific implementation for the Cray X-MP. The general stylistic features of RATFOR are discussed, including the block structure, keywords, source code, format, and the notion of tokens. There is a section on the basic control structures (IF-ELSE, ELSE IF, WHILE, FOR, DO, REPEAT-UNTIL, BREAK, NEXT), and there is a section on the statements that extend FORTRAN's capabilities (DEFINE, MACRO, INCLUDE, STRING). THE appendix discusses everything needed to compile and run a basic job, the preprocessor options, the supported character sets, the generated listings, fatal errors, and program limitations and the differences from standard FORTRAN.

User's Guide for the Updated EST/BEST Software System

This User's Guide describes the structure of the IPACS input file that reflects the modularity of each module. The structured format helps the user locate specific input data and manually enter or edit it. The IPACS input file can have any user-specified filename, but must have a DAT extension. The input file may consist of up to six input data blocks; the data blocks must be separated by delimiters beginning with the $ character. If multiple sections are desired, they must be arranged in the order listed.

The FORTRAN static source code analyzer program (SAP) user's guide, revision 1

The FORTRAN Static Source Code Analyzer Program (SAP) User's Guide (Revision 1) is presented. SAP is a software tool designed to assist Software Engineering Laboratory (SEL) personnel in conducting studies of FORTRAN programs. SAP scans FORTRAN source code and produces reports that present statistics and measures of statements and structures that make up a module. This document is a revision of the previous SAP user's guide, Computer Sciences Corporation document CSC/TM-78/6045. SAP Revision 1 is the result of program modifications to provide several new reports, additional complexity analysis, and recognition of all statements described in the FORTRAN 77 standard. This document provides instructions for operating SAP and contains information useful in interpreting SAP output.

CritView User’s Guide Rev. 2

This document serves as a user’s guide for the CritView code, version 1.05. It supersedes the previous revision (Rev. 1), which was applicable to version 1.04 of CritView. This release of CritView also includes version 1.09 of the database, which replaces version 1.08. The CritView code is used as an electronic equivalent of a nuclear criticality handbook (e.g., ARH-600). This code takes an electronic data library and allows the user to plot data as needed. This approach has two distinct advantages over a paper handbook. First, the database can be easily expanded to include additional data sources (e.g., other handbooks, configurations, or modeling techniques). Secondly, the code provides flexibility by allowing the user to easily change the units and parameters of the plots.

CARE 3 user-friendly interface user's guide

CARE 3 predicts the unreliability of highly reliable reconfigurable fault-tolerant systems that include redundant computers or computer systems. CARE3MENU is a user-friendly interface used to create an input for the CARE 3 program. The CARE3MENU interface has been designed to minimize user input errors. Although a CARE3MENU session may be successfully completed and all parameters may be within specified limits or ranges, the CARE 3 program is not guaranteed to produce meaningful results if the user incorrectly interprets the CARE 3 stochastic model. The CARE3MENU User Guide provides complete information on how to create a CARE 3 model with the interface. The CARE3MENU interface runs under the VAX/VMS operating system.

Sierra/SolidMechanics 4.56 User's Guide: Addendum for Shock Capabilities

This is an addendum to the Sierra/SolidMechanics 4.56 User's Guide that documents additional capabilities available only in alternate versions of the Sierra/SolidMechanics (Sierra/SM) code. These alternate versions are enhanced to provide capabilities that are regulated under the U.S. Department of State's International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) export control rules. The ITAR regulated codes are only distributed to entities that comply with the ITAR export control requirements. The ITAR enhancements to Sierra/SM include material models with an energy-dependent pressure response (appropriate for very large deformations and strain rates) and capabilities for blast modeling. This document is an addendum only; the standard Sierra/SolidMechanics 4.56 User's Guide should be referenced for most general descriptions of code capability and use.

SAM User’s Guide

The System Analysis Module (SAM) is a modern system analysis tool being developed at Argonne National Laboratory for advanced non-LWR safety analysis. It aims to provide fast-running, whole-plant transient analyses capability with improved-fidelity for Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFR), Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFR), and Molten Salt Reactors (MSR) or Fluoride-cooled High-temperature Reactors (FHR). SAM takes advantage of advances in physical modeling, numerical methods, and software engineering to enhance its user experience and usability. It utilizes an object-oriented application framework (MOOSE), and its underlying meshing and finite-element library (libMesh) and linear and non-linear solvers (PETSc), to leverage the modern advanced software environments and numerical methods. This document provides a user’s guide, which will help users understand the input description and core capabilities of the SAM code. A brief overview of the code is presented, as well as how to obtain and run it. The input syntax for various parts of the code is provided. Additionally, a number of example problems, starting with simple unit component problems to problems with increasing complexity, are provided. Because the code is still under active development, this SAM User’s Guide will evolve with periodic updates.

Traj_opt User's Guide

Trajectory optimization program Traj_opt was developed at Ames Research Center to help assess the potential benefits of ultrahigh temperature ceramic materials applied to reusable space vehicles with sharp noses and wing leading edges. Traj_opt loosely couples the Ames three-degrees-of-freedom trajectory package Traj (see NASA-TM-2004-212847) with the SNOPT optimization package (Stanford University Technical Report SOL 98-1). Traj_opt version January 22, 2003 is covered by this user guide. The program has been applied extensively to entry and ascent abort trajectory calculations for sharp and blunt crew transfer vehicles. The main optimization variables are control points for the angle of attack and bank angle time histories. No propulsion options are provided, but numerous objective functions may be specified and the nonlinear constraints implemented include a distributed surface heating constraint capability. Aero-capture calculations are also treated with an option to minimize orbital eccentricity at apoapsis. Traj_opt runs efficiently on a single processor, using forward or central differences for the gradient calculations. Results may be displayed conveniently with Gnuplot scripts. Control files recommended for five standard reentry and ascent abort trajectories are included along with detailed descriptions of the inputs and outputs.

The GLAS Science Algorithm Software (GSAS) User's Guide Version 7

The Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) is the primary instrument for the ICESat (Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite) laser altimetry mission. ICESat was the benchmark Earth Observing System (EOS) mission for measuring ice sheet mass balance, cloud and aerosol heights, as well as land topography and vegetation characteristics. From 2003 to 2009, the ICESat mission provided multi-year elevation data needed to determine ice sheet mass balance as well as cloud property information, especially for stratospheric clouds common over polar areas. It also provided topography and vegetation data around the globe, in addition to the polar-specific coverage over the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. This document is the final version of the GLAS Science Algorithm Software Users Guide document. It contains the instructions to install the GLAS Science Algorithm Software (GSAS) in the production environment that was used to create the standard data products. It also describes the usage of each GSAS program in that environment with their required inputs and outputs. Included are a number of utility programs that are used to create ancillary data files that are used in the processing but generally are not distributed to the public as data products. Of importance is the values for the large number of constants used in the GSAS algorithm during processing are provided in an appendix.
