AmeriFlux FLUXNET-1F US-Wi8 Young hardwood clearcut (YHW)

This is the AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP) created FLUXNET-1F version of the carbon flux data for the site US-Wi8 Young hardwood clearcut (YHW). This is the FLUXNET version of the carbon flux data for the site US-Wi8 Young hardwood clearcut (YHW) produced by applying the standard ONEFlux (1F) software. Site Description - The Wisconsin Clearcut Young Hardwood site is located in the Washburn Ranger District of the northeastern section of Chequamegon National Forest. A member of the northern coniferous-deciduous biome, surveys from the mid-19th century indicate the region consisted of a mixed stand of red, white, and jack pines. After extensive timber harvesting, wildfires, and farming activity, the region turned into a fragmented mosaic of stands of various ages and composition. The young hardwood clearcut site is one of ten sites that collectively represent the successional stages of development in the predominant stand types of a physically homogeneous landscape. In 2001, northern hardwood stands of all ages occupied 45% of the region.

As an assemblage, the ten Wisconsin sites are indicative of the successional stages of development in the predominant stand types of a physically homogeneous landscape. Clearcut on 40 to 70 year intervals, jack pine stands occupy approximately 13% of the region.

AmeriFlux BR-SM1 Cachoeira do Sul Rice Paddy

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site BR-SM1 Cachoeira do Sul Rice Paddy. Site Description - The site is a flooded rice paddy located in the Cachoeira do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil (latitude: -30.27°; longitude: -53.14°; altitude 40.5 m). The total cultivation area is approximately 1000 ha, subdivided into 100 mx100m plots. Flooded rice paddies have been used in this area since the 1980s and are a part of a wide lowland area susceptible to flooding by a stream (Pedro Paulo Stream). Channels and artificial reservoirs provide the water used.

AmeriFlux US-NC5 NC Butner Farm

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site US-NC5 NC Butner Farm. Site Description - The US-NC5 flux tower is located within an 80-year-old mixed pine-hardwood forest at the Umstead Research Farm in Butner, North Carolina. The northern section of this 20-hectare Fall Lake Watershed of the Neuse River Basin in the Piedmont of North Carolina, USA. The Northern portion is currently a managed cattle farm, which is slated for expansion—necessitating forest clearing in the flux site. To establish a reference baseline, a year-long, all-season eddy covariance flux monitoring campaign will be conducted from April 2025 to March 2026. This effort aims to capture the carbon flux dynamics of the mature forest ecosystem prior to a planned land-use conversion. The site will be transitioned into a silvopasture, maintained through prescribed burning and cattle grazing to promote an open-canopy watershed structure. Flux measurements will continue after the conversion.

AmeriFlux FLUXNET-1F US-NC2 NC_Loblolly Plantation

This is the AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP) created FLUXNET-1F version of the carbon flux data for the site US-NC2 NC_Loblolly Plantation. This is the FLUXNET version of the carbon flux data for the site US-NC2 NC_Loblolly Plantation produced by applying the standard ONEFlux (1F) software. Site Description - The North Carolina Loblolly Pine site is located in a pine plantation amongst the mixed forests of the North Carolina lower coastal plain. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries the region was logged extensively. After a series of clearcuts, the land was transformed for agricultural practices. In 1967 and 1969, 4000 ha was sold to the Weyerhauser company for agriculture, preservation, and commercial logging of loblolly pines in a series of plantations. The fifth rotation stand surrounding the tower was established in 1992. The only significant natural disturbances during the measurement period was a severe drought that spanned the entire duration of the 2007 growing season. Consequently, the 2007 total amount of precipitation was 486 mm below the 30-year norm. In the same year, the plantation was thinned and fertilized. The stand was thinned in Oct 2009. The eastern half of the site was fertilized in January 2011, and the entire site was fertilized in October 2012.

This is the FLUXNET version of the carbon flux data for the site US-CLF Cole Farm produced by applying the standard ONEFlux (1F) software. Site Description - The Cole Farm catchment (0.65km2) is located ~ 4 km southwest of the Shale Hills site, draining orthogonally to a syncline axis of the Wills Creek Formation, a calcareous shale containing interbedded siltstone, sandstone, shaly limestone, and dolomite. Even though the farm adopted no-till practices in the 1970s, the axial channel of Cole Farm flows over a thick (>2.5 m) package of sediment in the valley floor. Soils range in texture from silty clay at the ridge top to sandy loam in the valley floor. Data was collected and funded by the Critical Zone Observatory Network.

GSE, data management system programmers/User' manual

The GSE data management system is a computerized program which provides for a central storage source for key data associated with the mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE). Eight major sort modes can be requested by the user. Attributes that are printed automatically with each sort include the GSE end item number, description, class code, functional code, fluid media, use location, design responsibility, weight, cost, quantity, dimensions, and applicable documents. Multiple subsorts are available for the class code, functional code, fluid media, use location, design responsibility, and applicable document categories. These sorts and how to use them are described. The program and GSE data bank may be easily updated and expanded.

Soil moisture ground truth, Lafayette, Indiana, site; St. Charles Missouri, site; Centralia, Missouri, site

The soil moisture ground-truth measurements and ground-cover descriptions taken at three soil moisture survey sites located near Lafayette, Indiana; St. Charles, Missouri; and Centralia, Missouri are given. The data were taken on November 10, 1975, in connection with airborne remote sensing missions being flown by the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan under the auspices of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Emphasis was placed on the soil moisture in bare fields. Soil moisture was sampled in the top 0 to 1 in. and 0 to 6 in. by means of a soil sampling push tube. These samples were then placed in plastic bags and awaited gravimetric analysis.

A unique approach to the development of adaptive sensor systems for future spacecraft

In the Shuttle era, it should be possible to develop adaptive remote sensor systems serving more directly specific researcher and user needs and at the same time alleviating the data management problem via intelligent sensor capabilities. The present paper provides a summary of such an approach, wherein specific capabilities have been developed for future global monitoring applications. A detailed description of FILE-I (Feature Identification and Location Experiment) is included along with a summary of future experiments currently under development.
