Divertor Plasma Detachment Control Neural Network

DivControlNN is a state-of-the-art software tool that leverages advanced machine learning techniques to predict and control divertor plasma behavior in fusion reactors. Plasma, a highly energetic and electrically charged gas, requires meticulous management to protect reactor components and maintain optimal energy production. Conventional simulation methods, although extremely detailed, typically demand extensive computational time-making them unsuitable for real-time control scenarios. DivControlNN addresses this challenge by learning from tens of thousands of high-fidelity simulations, thereby creating a rapid surrogate model that can deliver near-instantaneous predictions. At the core of its functionality is a sophisticated technique known as latent space mapping, which condenses complex, high-dimensional plasma data into a compact, lower-dimensional representation. This streamlined representation enables the system to quickly forecast essential plasma properties and determine the precise conditions required for effective detachment. Detachment is a crucial process in which the plasma is cooled before reaching the divertor plates, thereby reducing heat loads and mitigating material erosion. In recent experiments conducted on the KSTAR tokamak in South Korea, DivControlNN successfully guided the detachment process without any fine-tuning-even when applied to a new tungsten divertor configuration. By achieving a computational speed-up of over one hundred million times compared to traditional simulation methods while maintaining low prediction errors, DivControlNN stands to significantly enhance real-time control and diagnostic capabilities in future fusion reactors. This breakthrough paves the way for safer, more reliable reactor operation and represents a major advancement toward realizing fusion energy as a practical, sustainable, and clean power source.

BuildingSync® v.2.7.0 (released 9.11.2025) [SWR-18-28]

BuildingSync® is a building data exchange schema to better enable integration between software tools and building data workflows. The schema's original use case was focused on commercial building energy audits; however, several additional use cases have been realized including building energy modeling and more high-level generic building data exchange. Version 2.7.0 adds new elements for file attachment feature and FederalBuilding, and generalizes usage of Optional Elements (e.g. EquipmentCondition, EquipmentID) to all assets/systems. BuildingSync helps streamline the data exchange process, improving the value of the data, minimizing duplication of effort for subsequent building data collection efforts (including audits), and facilitating the achievement of greater energy efficiency. This in done in part by standardizing on (a) reporting audits in an electronic format, (b) tracking proposed, implemented, and discarded energy conservation measures, and (c) storing building characteristics (at multiple levels) for audits, benchmarking, and building energy analysis. BuildingSync has several documents and tools available to help users understand how to best leverage BuildingSync. The list below are only a subset of the resources available. If new resources are discovered, then feel free to create a new pull request with the additions. Generic BuildingSync information is available on the DOE website and the project website. BuildingSync Examples - These examples are kept up to date and show a wide range of implementations. Any new update to BuildingSync is required to pass validation on these example files. BuildingSync Use Case Validator allows for users to determine if their instance complies with a specific use case for BuildingSync by checking if the required elements are implemented in an uploaded instance. An API is also provided for automated integration into other tools. Also, the website contains an easy way to view the entirety of the schema and how elements relate to the Building Exchange Data Exchange Specification. The Validator is open sourced here Use Case TestSuite provides a Python package for easier generation of BuildingSync use cases. BuildingSync use cases depend on the generation of schematron documents, which is time-consuming and difficult to implement well. The TestSuite allows users to define a use case using a more palatable CSV template, which it then turns into a Schematron document. The source code is available here. BuildingSync to OpenStudio/EnergyPlus. The translator is open sourced here. This project will translate a Level 1 (and partial Level 2) ASHRAE Energy Audit to a fully defined OpenStudio and EnergyPlus model. This project is in early Beta testing and any feedback is welcome!

EXAGRAPH: Graph and combinatorial methods for enabling exascale applications

Combinatorial algorithms in general and graph algorithms in particular play a critical enabling role in numerous scientific applications. However, the irregular memory access nature of these algorithms makes them one of the hardest algorithmic kernels to implement on parallel systems. With tens of billions of hardware threads and deep memory hierarchies, the exascale computing systems in particular pose extreme challenges in scaling graph algorithms. The codesign center on combinatorial algorithms, ExaGraph, was established to design and develop methods and techniques for efficient implementation of key combinatorial (graph) algorithms chosen from a diverse set of exascale applications. Algebraic and combinatorial methods have a complementary role in the advancement of computational science and engineering, including playing an enabling role on each other. In this paper, we survey the algorithmic and software development activities performed under the auspices of ExaGraph from both a combinatorial and an algebraic perspective. In particular, we detail our recent efforts in porting the algorithms to manycore accelerator (GPU) architectures. We also provide a brief survey of the applications that have benefited from the scalable implementations of different combinatorial algorithms to enable scientific discovery at scale. We believe that several applications will benefit from the algorithmic and software tools developed by the ExaGraph team.
