Chromium wire grid duplexer-polarizer for 10 micrometer carbon dioxide laser communication system is produced by depositing photo-resist film onto silicon substrate, grating by two collimated cadmium helium laser beams, covering of surface with thin chromium layer, and subsequent stripping of uncoated portion to expose etched wires.
Construction of instrument to measure ratio of liquid to gas of flowing transparent cryogenic fluid is described. Instrument consists of collimated light source and photoconductive cell. Operation of instrument is described and illustration of equipment is provided.
The all-sky, X-ray measurements are made in five broad energy bands from 0.5 to 60 keV with X-ray collimators of one and three degree FWHM response. Working with the onboard star sensor source locations may be determined to a precision of plus or minus 0.1 deg. The experiment is located in wheel compartment number three of the spacecraft. A time division logic system divides each wheel rotation into 256 data bins in each of which X-ray counts are accumulated over a 190 second interval. Measurement chain circuits include provision for both geometric and risetime anticoincidence. A detailed description of the instrument is included as is pertinent operating information.
A primary calibration system, PCS, for infrared radiometers has been developed, built, and tested. The system allows radiometers to be calibrated with less than 1 percent error for use in earth coverage horizon measurements, earth resources surveys, and synoptic meteorological measurement. The final design, fabrication and test of the PCS are reported. A detailed description of the PCS construction is presented, along with the results of a complete series of functional tests. Test to verify the source thermal characteristics, collimator reflectance, and output beam characteristics are described and their results presented.
A detailed description is given of a miniature line-target system that is illuminated by a radioactive source, collimated, and provided with suitable scales to indicate its position within the roll and pitch planes. These components are assembled in a lightweight, goggle that can be precisely positioned by means of a biteboard attachment. Uses of the goggle in the measurements of the perceived direction of space under ordinary and extraordinary test conditions are illustrated. Modifications are suggested that can extend its usefulness.
