Flat conductor cable survey

Design handbook contains data and illustrations concerned with commercial and Government flat-conductor-cable connecting and terminating hardware. Material was obtained from a NASA-sponsored industry-wide survey of approximately 150 companies and Government agencies.

Multilayer flat electrical cable

Flat electrical cable is lightweight, flexible over wide temperature range, withstands continuous exposure to high levels of nuclear radiation, and can carry high currents with minimum of temperature rise. Its magnetic cleanliness is equal to or better than twisted pair of wires, and it can be terminated in conventional electrical connector.

Microbiological sampling of spacecraft cabling, antennas, solar panels and thermal blankets

Sampling procedures and techniques described resulted from various flight project microbiological monitoring programs of unmanned planetary spacecraft. Concurrent with development of these procedures, compatibility evaluations were effected with the cognizant spacecraft subsystem engineers to assure that degradation factors would not be induced during the monitoring program. Of significance were those areas of the spacecraft configuration for which special handling precautions and/or nonstandard sample gathering techniques were evolved. These spacecraft component areas were: cabling, high gain antenna, solar panels, and thermal blankets. The compilation of these techniques provides a historical reference for both the qualification and quantification of sampling parameters as applied to the Mariner Spacecraft of the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Cable design

The importance of material selection is stressed in the design and manufacture of FCC. Several applications of flat conductor cable are discussed relative to material selection and the reasons for using a particular material for each application is explained.

Dynamic analysis of a long span, cable-stayed freeway bridge using NASTRAN

The dynamic analysis for earthquake- and wind-induced response of a long span, cable-stayed freeway bridge by NASTRAN in conjunction with post-processors is described. Details of the structural modeling, the input data generation, and numerical results are given. The influence of the dynamic analysis on the bridge design is traced from the project initiation to the development of a successful earthquake and wind resistant configuration.

Salus, W. L.↗

The manufacture of flat conductor cable

The major techniques are described for fabricating flat conductor cable (FCC). Various types of FCC, including unshielded, shielded, power, and signal, in both existing and conceptual constructions, are covered.

Angele, W.↗

Surface-mounted flat conductor cable for home wiring

The concepts are discussed which are being considered and developed for surface-mounted wiring using flat conductor cable. Safety aspects, problems being encountered, and advantages are also discussed.

Flat Conductor Cable systems - Originally developed for space flight, useful for commercial applications

Flat Conductor Cable (FCC) technology has now reached a level of development where it is being considered for, and used in, numerous interconnection projects. First developed for aerospace use, FCC is becoming a major contender for commercial wiring tasks as well. This presentation is designed to show why and how FCC has been able to make the transition from the aerospace to the commercial field.

Testing of a flat conductor cable baseboard system for residential and commercial wiring

The results of extensive testing (mechanical, electrical, chemical, environmental, thermal, and analytical) are reported for a flat conductor cable baseboard system for residential and commercial wiring. In all of the tests, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standards, UL Tentative Test Programs, or Accepted Engineering Practices were followed during test selection, test setup, and test accomplishment.

Installation of surface-mounted flat-conductor cable

Guide describes step-by-step process for installation of interior surface-mounted FCC used in commerical and residential buildings. Photographs illustrate how cable-riser and baseboard covers are installed as well as receptacle assembly and receptacle-cover replacement.

Inexpensive tags for tubes or cables

Split brass paper fasteners are used to identify tubes and cables in environments in which standard adhesive-backed identification tags do not adhere.

Fakolt, A. J.↗

Rigid cable support for blind installations

Mechanical support structure, originally designed for use with electrical cables, can support hydraulic, pneumatic, and cryogenic lines where bends are required, assemblies are inaccessible, and conduits are impractical. Support is also light in weight and offers means of damping vibration.
