Star Mapper

A COSMIC (Computer Software Management and Information Center) program known as Skymap Star Catalog and Data Base provides a very accurate star map. The data assists Perkin Elmer Corporation in designing an optical system of proper size and field of view, and confirms the design integrity of star sensors which are very accurate and represent a major advance in optical technology. Perkin Elmer is the prime contractor for the optical telescope assembly of NASA's space telescope.

Report on the Global Data Assembly Center (GDAC) to the 12th GHRSST Science Team Meeting

In 2010/2011 the Global Data Assembly Center (GDAC) at NASA's Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) continued its role as the primary clearinghouse and access node for operational Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) datastreams, as well as its collaborative role with the NOAA Long Term Stewardship and Reanalysis Facility (LTSRF) for archiving. Here we report on our data management activities and infrastructure improvements since the last science team meeting in June 2010.These include the implementation of all GHRSST datastreams in the new PO.DAAC Data Management and Archive System (DMAS) for more reliable and timely data access. GHRSST dataset metadata are now stored in a new database that has made the maintenance and quality improvement of metadata fields more straightforward. A content management system for a revised suite of PO.DAAC web pages allows dynamic access to a subset of these metadata fields for enhanced dataset description as well as discovery through a faceted search mechanism from the perspective of the user. From the discovery and metadata standpoint the GDAC has also implemented the NASA version of the OpenSearch protocol for searching for GHRSST granules and developed a web service to generate ISO 19115-2 compliant metadata records. Furthermore, the GDAC has continued to implement a new suite of tools and services for GHRSST datastreams including a Level 2 subsetter known as Dataminer, a revised POET Level 3/4 subsetter and visualization tool, a Google Earth interface to selected daily global Level 2 and Level 4 data, and experimented with a THREDDS catalog of GHRSST data collections. Finally we will summarize the expanding user and data statistics, and other metrics that we have collected over the last year demonstrating the broad user community and applications that the GHRSST project continues to serve via the GDAC distribution mechanisms. This report also serves by extension to summarize the activities of the GHRSST Data Assembly and Systems Technical Advisory Group (DAS-TAG).

Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer, One Quarter Scale Prototype Thermal Testing

The Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx) instrument has been proposed as NASA Small Explorer (SMEX) and Medium Explorer (MIDEX) missions designed to perform an all-sky near-infrared survey. The primary science objective of the SPHEREx instrument is the mapping and cataloging of data on galaxy red shifts and absorption spectra. The SPHEREx instrument utilizes a linear variable band pass filter to provide discrete spectral coverage of the 0.75 to 5.0 μm range. The nominal on-orbit mission lifetime for the instrument is two years with continuous primary science imaging. The SPHEREx instrument will be placed in a near-circular LEO sun-synchronous terminator orbit with a mean altitude of 600 km, and solar beta angles ranging from 59° to 90°. A passive V-groove radiator cooling system was selected for the SPHEREx instrument. This design was chosen for its simplicity and lack of vibration. It includes five radiator stages with the coldest two stages providing temperatures below 80K and 55K for the 2.5μm and 5.3μm detectors respectively. A one quarter scale thermal prototype was constructed to characterize the performance of the SPHEREx thermal control subsystem. This prototype was directly derived and scaled from the current flight design, and accurately replicates all heat flow paths at scale. The prototype was tested in two bounding hot flight-like environments in the Cryogenic Systems Engineering, Advanced Thermal Technology Lab at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Following testing, a previously developed one quarter scale thermal model was correlated to the two conditions seen in test. The resultant correlated model is able to predict the prototype test temperatures to within 1K for all critical radiator stages. An overview of the thermal control design approach, the test configuration, and test and correlation results are presented.

Description and catalog of ionospheric F-region data, Jicamarca Radar Observatory, November 1966 - April 1969

Equatorial ionospheric F-region data reduced from the Jicamarca Radar Observatory (JRO) incoherent scatter observations for particular periods is described. It lists in catalog form the times of the observations made during those periods. These F-region data include the electron concentration and the electron and ion temperatures. The data were inferred from the incoherent scatter observations of JRO.

Legacy Survey of Space and Time Data Preview 2

We present Rubin Data Preview 2 (DP2), the second data preview from the NDF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Data Preview 2 (DP2) comprises coadds, detection catalogs, and ancillary data products; and when fully released will also include single-epoch images and difference images. DP2 is derived from observations acquired by the LSST Science Camera (LSSTCam) on the Simonyi Survey Telescope at the Summit Facility on Cerro Pachón, Chile, primarily during the on-sky commissioning campaign between 2025-04-16 and 2025-09-21, supplemented by observations taken between 2025-10-25 and 2026-01-06 that overlap the commissioning footprint. The DP2 footprint comprises the Science Validation wide-area survey, five Deep Drilling Fields, and a number of targeted small-field regions, including Trifid and Lagoon, Prawn, M49, and New Horizons, all observed as part of the Rubin First Look campaign. Each field was imaged in up to six broad photometric bands, ugrizy, and coadded to produce deep imaging covering an estimated 3,000 deg2. The addition of single-visit-only areas expands the total DP2 footprint to an estimated 15,000 deg2, with coverage in at least one filter. The median per-visit PSF FWHM across the wide-area survey ranges from 1.17 arcsec in the z band to 1.26 arcsec in g and r bands. The deepest field, reaches estimated coadded 5σ depths of u=26 mag, g=26.8 mag, r=26.3 mag, i=26.1 mag, z=25.3 mag, y=23.9 mag. Based on a roughly five-month primary observing baseline and covering only part of the eventual LSST footprint, DP2's area, depth, and multiband coverage nonetheless support a broad range of early science investigations ahead of LSST Data Release
