We employ polarization-dependent loss emulators for Procrustean filtering of a noisy quantum state affected by classical crosstalk, resulting in a substantial improvement of two-qubit entangled state fidelities from approximately 75% to over 92%.
Creep crack growth is a phenomenon which arises in damaged metallic structures under combined primary and secondary loads in the creep regime. The High Temperature Flaw Evaluation Code Committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is evaluating methods in extending Code Case N-934 to capture transient creep crack growth. Here, this paper provides context and basic examples on the selected approach to transient creep crack growth methods based on the C(t)-integral. The basis for selected C(t)-integral solution as analytical method is established, including an overview of its derivation. Practical assessments of a crack growing under creep conditions in a realistic component are conducted to illustrate the analytical approach. Additional considerations in the application of the analytical methods and limitations are discussed.
In this issue of ECS Interface, we highlight some exciting success stories for low-dimensional materials in technologically critical fields. These are areas where emergent properties and processes within quantum-confined low-dimensional materials (and heterostructures) enable novel applications beyond what can be achieved in bulk materials.

In the 1970s, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.87 (Rev 1, June 1975) to provide interim licensing guidelines to aid applicants in implementing the 10 CFR Part 50 requirements with respect to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler Pressure and Vessel Code (BPVC) Class 1 components operating at elevated temperatures for high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, liquid-metal fast-breeder reactors, and gas-cooled fast-breeder reactors. RG 1.87 referenced ASME Code Case 1592 for materials and design and Code Cases 1593, 1594, 1595, and 1596 for fabrication and installation, examination, testing, and overpressure protection, respectively.

In FY 2022, a development effort was initiated at the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to develop the Alloy 800H viscoplastic constitutive model so that inelastic analysis methods can support high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) designs. The viscoplastic constitutive equations will be developed at Argonne. The ORNL effort focuses on generating test data from various high-temperature experiments with specially designed loading histories to probe Alloy 800H’s constitutive response.
