Total-pressure measurement in pulsating flows

Pneumatic-type probe was used as comparison instrument with total pressure tubes to determine true average pressure and, thus, to determine if nonlinear averaging effects were significant. Since pneumatic probe is more complicated to use than a total-pressure tube, it is used only as a comparison instrument to determine extent of averaging effects.

Pressure measurement at low temperatures

The present discussion centers on the following topics: (1) what types of pressure transducers show good potential for cryogenic use; (2) what are the output characteristics (stability, sensitivity, etc.) of a transducer when subjected to low temperature environments; and (3) are methods or apparatus available to calibrate cryogenically pressure transducers under static and dynamic conditions. Some information is available on the low-temperature performance of relatively few pressure transducer types; however, the information is either in the form of manufacturing specifications or unpublished reports. The results of this study clearly indicate that individual transducers, even from the same manufacturer, can exhibit totally different characteristics when subjected to identical cryogenic test procedures. This indicates the necessity of calibrating each transducer for use at low temperature. Also included in the discussion is the description of a static/dynamic low-temperature pressure transducer calibration facility, which is currently being developed.

Basic Pressure Measurements at Transonic Speeds on a Thin 45 deg Sweptback Highly Tapered Wing With Systematic Spanwise Twist Variations

Pressure distributions obtained in the Langley 8-foot transonic pressure tunnel on a thin, highly tapered, twisted, 45 deg sweptback wing in combination with a body are presented. The wing has a linear span-wise twist variation from 0 deg at 10 percent of the semispan to 6 deg at the tip. The tip is at a lower angle of attack than the root. Tests were made at stagnation pressures of 1.0 and 0.5 atmosphere, at Mach numbers from 0.800 to 1.200, and at angles of attack from -4 to 12 deg.

Basic Pressure Measurements at Transonic Speeds on a Thin 45 deg Sweptback Highly Tapered Wing with Systematic Spanwise Twist Variations

Pressure distributions obtained in the Langley 8-foot transonic pressure tunnel on a thin, highly tapered, twisted, 450 sweptback wing in combination with a body are presented. The wing has a cubic spanwise twist variation from 0 deg. at 10 percent of the semispan to 60 at the tip. The tip is at a lower angle of attack than the root. Tests were made at stagnation pressures of 1.0 and 0.5 atmosphere, at Mach numbers from 0 0.800 to 1.200, and at angles of attack from -4 deg. to 20 deg.

Basic Pressure Measurements at Transonic Speeds on a Thin 45 deg Sweptback highly Tapered Wing With Systematic Spanwise Twist Variations

Pressure distributions obtained in the Langley 8-foot transonic pressure tunnel on a thin highly tapered twisted 45 deg sweptback wing-body combination are presented. The wing has a quadratic spanwise twist variation from 0 deg at 10 percent of the semispan to 6 deg at the tip. The tip is at a lower angle of attack than the root. Tests were made at stagnation pressures of both 0.5 and 1.0 atmosphere at Mach numbers from 0.800 to 1.200 through an angle-of-attack range from -4 deg to 20 deg.

Basic Pressure Measurements at Transonic Speeds on a Thin 45 deg Sweptback Highly Tapered Wing with Systematic Spanwise Twist Variations

Pressure distributions are presented for a thin highly tapered untwisted 45 deg sweptback wing in combination with a body. These tests were made in the Langley 8-foot transonic pressure tunnel at both 1.0 and 0.5 atmosphere stagnation pressures at Mach numbers from 0.800 to 1.200 through an angle-of-attack range of -4 deg to 12 deg.

Automatic blood pressure measuring system (M091)

The Leg Volume Measuring System is used to measure leg calf girth changes that occur during exposure to lower body negative pressure as a result of pooling of blood and other fluids in the lower extremities.

A Brief Review of Equivalent Available Pressure Measurement and Purpose

This presentation is intended as a lead to a workshop on the subject of Equivalent Available Pressure (EAP). EAP is a concept that has been introduced to the Pressure Gain Combustion (PGC) community in recent years. It is a technique for determining an equivalent steady state figure of merit from the fundamentally unsteady PGC process. The workshop is centered on reviewing the efforts by various organizations to implement the EAP technique specifically on rotating detonation engines (RDE's). RDE's are a type of PGC device. This presentation is a very brief (15 minute) review of the EAP technique for both computational simulations and laboratory experiments. The mathematical equations required to compute EAP are shown and an example RDE simulation is presented showing results.

Pressure Measurement in Supersonic Air Flow by Differential Absorptive Laser-Induced Thermal Acoustics

Nonintrusive, off-body flow barometry in Mach-2 airflow has been demonstrated in a large-scale supersonic wind tunnel using seedless laser-induced thermal acoustics (LITA). The static pressure of the gas flow is determined with a novel differential absorption measurement of the ultrasonic sound produced by the LITA pump process. Simultaneously, stream-wise velocity and static gas temperature of the same spatially-resolved sample volume were measured with this nonresonant time-averaged LITA technique. Mach number, temperature and pressure have 0.2%, 0.4%, and 4% rms agreement, respectively, in comparison with known free-stream conditions.

Blood pressure measurement and display system

System is described that employs solid state circuitry to transmit visual display of patient's blood pressure. Response of sphygmomanometer cuff and microphone provide input signals. Signals and their amplitudes, from turn-on time to turn-off time, are continuously fed to data transmitter which transmits to display device.
