Molybdenum telluride (MoTe 2 ), an emerging layered two-dimensional (2D) material, possesses excellent phase-changing properties. Previous studies revealed its reversible transition between 2H and 1T' phases with a transition energy as small as 35 meV. Since 1T'-MoTe 2 is metallic, it can serve as an electrical contact for semiconducting 2H-MoTe 2 -based optoelectronic devices. Here, the photocarrier dynamics in MoTe 2 nanofilms synthesized by a one-step method and with coexisting multiple phases are investigated by transient absorption measurements. Both the energy relaxation time and the recombination lifetime of the excitons are shorter in the 1T'-MoTe 2 compared to its 2H phase. Furthermore, these results provide information on the different photocarrier dynamical properties of these two phases, which is important for future 2D optoelectronic and phase-change electronic devices based on MoTe 2 .

Here, the utility of the sterically bulky terphenylthiolate ligand, (SAr iPr6 ) 1− in expanding uranium reductive chemistry has been explored. Reduction of U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 I forms the U(II) complex, U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 , in which the metal is protected by the flanking arene rings of the ligand, but they move out of the way to accommodate the four electron reduction of PhN=NPh to form the U(VI) bis(imido) product U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 (=NPh) 2 (THF) 2 . Here, the KC 8 reduction of U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 generates a more reduced complex, KU(μ-SAr iPr6 ) 2 , initially identified by a −2.55 V vs. Fc + /Fc electrochemical reduction event in THF.

We report on the first experimental measurements made at a magnetic confinement fusion device of the tritium(T)-tritium(T) reaction T + T → He 4 + 2 n indicating the presence of the intermediate two-body resonant reaction T + T → He 5 + n . During the second deuterium-tritium campaign (DTE2) at the Joint European Torus, measurements of fusion plasmas with high tritium concentrations, n T / ( n T + n D ) ≈ 0.99 , heated with tritium neutral beam injection, were performed using the neutron time-of-flight (TOF) spectrometer TOFOR. We detect a peak in the neutron emission TOF spectrum consistent with the two-body resonant reaction. The TT neutron emission energy spectrum is modeled using an R -matrix framework where the distributions of the most likely model parameters given our experimental TOF data are determined utilizing a Markov chain Monte Carlo approach. We compare our best estimate of the T + T neutron emission energy spectrum with results obtained at inertial confinement fusion experiments at the OMEGA facility and find a spectral shape that is consistent with the energy dependency in the neutron spectrum observed at OMEGA. The AYb Ch 2 (A=alkali metal, Ch=chalcogen) delafossites are a family of crystals which have a triangular lattice of effective S=1/2 moments on their Yb atoms. They hold great promise for the realization of the triangular quantum spin liquid state because of their defect-minimized growth and the ability to interchange chemical constituencies among the family. Here we use ab initio computations to evaluate the exchange couplings of four realized (and one theoretical) rhombohedral delafossite structures and examine the influence of chemical substitution on promoting the development of a quantum spin liquid state. We find good agreement with experiment regarding the antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbor exchange J 1 , but our calculations underestimate J 2 .

An accurate full-dimensional quantum state-to-state simulation of the six-atom title reaction based on first-principles theory is reported. Counterintuitive effects are found: Increasing the energy in the reactant’s CD 3 umbrella vibration reduces the energy in the corresponding product vibration. An in-depth analysis reveals the crucial role of the effective dynamical transition state: Its geometry is controlled by the vibrational states of the reactants and subsequently controls the quantum state distribution of the products. This finding enables generalizing the concept of transition state control of chemical reactions to the quantum state–specific level.
