New Search for a Sterile Neutrino at MicroBooNE with BNB and NuMI Beams

The MicroBooNE experiment employs an 85-ton active volume liquid argon time projection chamber to detect neutrinos from both the on-axis Booster Neutrino Beam (BNB) and off-axis Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) beam. This poster describes short baseline neutrino oscillations in a 3+1 sterile neutrino model and presents the MicroBooNE results using only the BNB beam. Additionally, it states the impact of a degeneracy resulting from the cancellation of $\nu_e$ appearance and disappearance and demonstrates that combining data from the BNB and NuMI beams, which have substantially different $\nu_e/\nu_\mu$ ratios, can break this degeneracy.

Beam Optics Design of A Prototype 20 kW Conduction-Cooled SRF Accelerator for Medical Sterilization

Superconducting technology has significantly advanced the capabilities of particle accelerators, facilitating higher beam-power operations for fundamental research at a comparatively lower cost. However, the conventional implementation of superconducting technology introduces complexities in the form of cryogenic plants, cryogenic distribution systems and substantial construction and operational cost. In response to these challenges, recent research efforts at Fermilab have been dedicated to the development of a cryogen-free, conduction-cooled Nb3Sn-based superconducting technology. This paper outlines the beam optics design of a 20-kW conduction-cooled compact superconducting accelerator for medical sterilization. The paper reviews both the physics and practical constraints associated with high beam-power operation within the context of industrial applications. The focus is on providing insights into the potential of this innovative technology to overcome existing challenges and pave the way for more accessible and efficient industrial particle accelerators.

Searching for Sterile Neutrinos Using an Exclusive 1$\mu$;1$\rho$ Selection: The Short Baseline Near Detector (SBND)

Over the last two decades, we have seen several of short-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments report results which challenged mainstream theories of neutrino oscillations. On the forefront of exploring these anomalies further is Fermilab's Short-Baseline Neutrino (SBN) program, which consists of two large liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPCs), SBND and ICARUS, placed in alignment with the Booster Neutrino Beam (BNB). I'll be showing the strength that a 1mu1p selection at the SBN program can have for delivering world-leading sensitivity to distortions in the muon neutrino spectrum due to sterile neutrino oscillations.

ICARUS: new voyage to sterile neutrino search in the Short Baseline Program

The ICARUS collaboration operated the 760-ton T600 detector in a successful three-year physics run at the underground LNGS laboratories studying neutrino oscillations with the CNGS neutrino beam from CERN, and searching for atmospheric neutrino interactions. ICARUS performed a sensitive search for LSND-like anomalous νe appearance in the CNGS beam, which contributed to the constraints on the allowed parameters to a narrow region around $Δm^2=1 e\text{V}^2$, where all the experimental results can be coherently accommodated at 90% C.L. After a significant overhaul at CERN, the T600 detector has been installed at Fermilab. In 2020 cryogenic commissioning began with detector cool down, liquid Argon filling and recirculation. ICARUS has started operations and is presently in its commissioning phase with the aim of collecting its first neutrino events from the Booster Neutrino Beam and the NuMI off-axis beam. The main goal of the first year of ICARUS data taking will then be the definitive verification of the recent claim by NEUTRINO-4 short baseline reactor experiment both in the $ν_μ$ channel with the BNB and in the $ν_e$ with NuMI. After the first year of operations, ICARUS will commence its search for evidence of a sterile neutrino jointly with the SBND near detector, within the Short Baseline Neutrino (SBN) program. The ICARUS exposure to the NuMI beam will also give the possibility for other physics studies such as light dark matter searches and neutrino-Argon cross section measurements. The proposed contribution addresses ICARUS achievements, its status and plans for the new run at Fermilab and the ongoing developments of the analysis tools needed to fulfill its physics program.

Searching sterile neutrinos with ICARUS at FNAL

The ICARUS T600 detector completed in 2013 a successful three-year physics run at the underground LNGS laboratory and after a significant overhaul at CERN, it has been installed at Fermilab. In June 2022 a new data taking started and ICARUS is presently recording neutrino events from BNB and NuMI off-axis beams. ICARUS aims at first to investigate the claim by Neutrino-4 short-baseline reactor experiment and to perform with the NuMI beam measurements of neutrino cross sections in LAr and several BSM searches. ICARUS will soon jointly search for evidence of sterile neutrinos with the Short-Baseline Near Detector (SBND). In this proceeding the status of the T600 detector and preliminary results from the ICARUS data analysis with the BNB and NuMI beams will be shortly described.

EcoFAB 3.0: a sterile system for studying sorghum that replicates previous field and greenhouse observations

Introduction Studying plant-microbe interactions is one of the key elements in understanding the path to sustainable agricultural practices. These interactions play a crucial role in ensuring survival of healthy plants, soil and microbial communities. Many platforms have been developed over the years to isolate these highly complex interactions however, these are designed for small model plants. This creates a need for complementary devices for larger plants, such as sorghum. Methods This work introduces a novel platform, EcoFAB 3.0, which is designed to enable studying bioenergy plants such as sorghum for up to 4 weeks in a controlled sterile environment. Several other advantages of this platform such as dark root chambers and user-friendly assembly are also discussed in this work. Results and discussion EcoFAB 3.0 was found to replicate previous greenhouse and field observations when comparing an engineered sorghum line overproducing 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA) and wildtype (variety BTx430). Consistent with greenhouse and field observations, it was found that the engineered line of sorghum grown in EcoFAB 3.0 had a higher 4-HBA content and a lower dry biomass.

Towards prevention and prediction of infectious diseases with virus sterilization using ultraviolet light and low-temperature plasma and bio-sensing devices for health and hygiene care

Inspired by the ideas of many authors, we provide insight on state-of-the-art potential technologies for the prevention and prediction of infectious diseases before they spread. This review also surveys virus sterilization with ultraviolet light and low temperature plasma technologies. Researchers in the various fields of medicine, materials, electronics, and plasma sciences have addressed increasingly challenging demands and the discussion encompasses the major challenges in societies that are faced with the threat of infectious diseases. In addition, technologies that use nanomaterials are evaluated for infection prevention and hygiene purposes. Advances in biomedical diagnostics for health care in terms of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor transistors-based devices and telemetry for health monitoring are also reviewed.
