Godiva 4 CAAS Shielding Benchmark: Pre CED-3A Overview [Slides]

Thiis presentation shows the character of an integral experiment. It covers the question why Godiva 4? Additionally, this presentation touches on the IER 498 benchmark quantity, activities facilitated by IER 498, proposed CED-2 test matrix, and what happened during the IER 498’s gap year.

Shielding the Quantum Realm: Technical Considerations for Maintaining a Stable and Secure Radio Frequency Environment for Quantum Research

Advancements in quantum technology, which include quantum computing, quantum sensing, quantum communications, and associated research, continue to revolutionize various fields of study by solving challenging problems deemed too difficult or more efficient than those used for classical computers. However, as these systems become ever so complex, it is critical to secure their electromagnetic operational environments and the associated impact on quantum systems and infrastructure. The goal of this synopsis is to bring attention to the susceptibility of quantum technology facilities to potential issues related to the radio frequency (RF) environment within the broader electromagnetic context. A framework is proposed for identifying, mitigating, monitoring, and auditing these often complex operational environments. By establishing best practices in the consideration and evaluation of these criteria, one can enhance the operational integrity, resilience, and security of quantum technology systems and facilities, thereby supporting their continued development and application in research and industry.

Resonance Self-Shielding: Why it is so Important

This paper is one of a series that I am writing to document my 58 years of experience with ENDF and Neutron Transport calculations, beginning when I worked at the National Nuclear Data Center (NNDC), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), from 1967 to 1972. During those years I was the head of the computer unit of NNDC, assigned to develop computer codes to pre-process, view and test ENDF/B data. Since then, I have continued to support the ENDF effort without any official position or monetary compensation, because I realized how important accurate nuclear data is for use in use in our Engineering applications. It is so important to realize that regardless of how accurate or even perfect our application codes may be to transport particles, without accurate nuclear data we are in a “Garbage In = Garbage Out” situation.

Pipe restraint and shield

A pipe restraint assembly includes a restraint body configured to be removably attached to a portion of pipe. The portion of pipe is associated with a postulated pipe failure associated with a release of high pressure fluid. A plurality of apertures penetrate through the restraint body and are positioned proximate to a location of the postulated pipe failure. The apertures are configured to provide a number of passageways for the fluid to exit from the location of the postulated pipe failure and to be released outside of the restraint body. One or more restraint devices maintain the position of the apertures relative to the location of the postulated pipe failure.

Door assembly with collapsible carrier and water shield

A door assembly for a motor vehicle comprised of an outer door panel and an inner door panel interconnected to define a door panel structure having an internal door cavity. A collapsible carrier module is configured to be oriented in a collapsed arrangement to facilitate installation into the door cavity through an opening in the inner door panel. The collapsible carrier module can be moved from its collapsed arrangement into an expanded arrangement upon installation within the door cavity to facilitate subsequent mounting to the door panel structure. The collapsible carrier module includes a barrier configured to close off the opening in the inner panel.
