Fully Homomorphic Encryption

This code implements a Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) system, enabling secure computation on encrypted data without requiring decryption. It supports encryption, decryption, and homomorphic operations like matrix multiplication and addition. This code is adaptable for integrating FHE into linear-time invariant (LTI) systems, including digital control and filtering. With proper configuration from subject matter expertise, encrypted system parameters and signals can be manipulated to perform tasks like state updates, output calculations, and convolution in the encrypted domain. By preserving the structure of LTI systems while ensuring privacy, the framework facilitates secure applications in areas such as autonomous systems, signal processing, and industrial automation. The code initializes the encryption system using parameters provided in the env dictionary. These parameters include the ciphertext modulus, key dimension, plaintext fixed-point scaling factor, and noise bound. During initialization, a secret key is generated, which is essential for encrypting and decrypting data securely. The modular design allows users to tailor these parameters to specific use cases or security requirements. The code implements multiple cryptographic schemes. The learning with errors (LWE) encryption method encodes cleartext message to their plaintext fixed-point representation then encrypted into ciphertext space with additive noise. This noise ensures the security of the scheme, relying on the computational hardness of the LWE problem. The code also includes the Gentry-Sahai-Waters (GSW) scheme based off the LWE problem. Homomorphic matrix multiplication is performed between the LWE and GSW to encrypted data. This is achieved using a decomposition function on the LWE ciphertext during the multiplication operation. For higher-dimensional data, the code includes a method to encrypt entire matrices (GSWMat) using GSW encryption. These encrypted matrices can then be used for homomorphic matrix multiplications (MatMult). The decryption function uses the secret key to recover the original plaintext, removing the added noise and scaling that was originally applied during encryption.

The code consists of several scripts. The image is fetched from a predefined URL, downloaded, and is displayed in the virtual environment at a predefined location. The image is also dynamically scaled to fit in the virtual environment depending on its size. The image is sent to have each pixel's value written to a CSV file. While the CSV is being written, a dictionary is populated with values that map each pixel to a temperature reading. The image's height, width, position and references to its corners are sent to make a button that is the same size as the image and placed right behind the image in the virtual scene. The button defines behavior that should be triggered when the user pushes the image. Unity provides visual cues that alert the user when they are about to touch something in the virtual environment. The code holds references to the cues for the left and right hands. The button queries the cue tracker and receives the position of the active cue in the form of a 3D vector. The 3D vector is compared to the bottom left corner of the image to transform the world space coordinates of the cue to the pixel space of the image. The specific pixel is approximated relative to how far left and up the user touched from the bottom left corner of the image. The approximated pixel value, which is represented as a coordinate in 2D space, is used to retrieve the temperature value associated with the approximated pixel. A window of text is then updated to display the temperature reading.

SMC2021 Where to go in atomic world

'Graphene_CrSi.npy' contains a scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) movie from graphene monolayer. The movie is a sequence of atom-resolved images from the same sample region that undergoes chemical and structural transformations due to interaction with electron beam (which is used to perform imaging). 'topo_defects.npy' contains coordinates of some of the objects of interest (topological defects in graphene). It is a dictionary, where keys are frame numbers and values are xy coordinates. These objects are usually localized in relatively small areas of the image and we are interested in identifying them without having to scan an entire grid (which leads to fast degradation of the sample).

Spinning metasurface stack for spectro-polarimetric thermal imaging

Spectro-polarimetric imaging in the long-wave infrared (LWIR) region plays a crucial role in applications from night vision and machine perception to trace gas sensing and thermography. However, the current generation of spectro-polarimetric LWIR imagers suffers from limitations in size, spectral resolution, and field of view (FOV). While meta-optics-based strategies for spectro-polarimetric imaging have been explored in the visible spectrum, their potential for thermal imaging remains largely unexplored. In this work, we introduce an approach for spectro-polarimetric decomposition by combining large-area stacked meta-optical devices with advanced computational imaging algorithms. The co-design of a stack of spinning dispersive metasurfaces along with compressive sensing and dictionary learning algorithms allows simultaneous spectral and polarimetric resolution without the need for bulky filter wheels or interferometers. Our spinning-metasurface-based spectro-polarimetric stack is compact (<10×10×10cm) and robust, and it offers a wide field of view (20.5°). We show that the spectral resolving power of our system substantially enhances performance in machine learning tasks such as material classification, a challenge for conventional panchromatic thermal cameras. Our approach represents a significant advance in the field of thermal imaging for a wide range of applications including heat-assisted detection and ranging (HADAR).

BinaryCIF and CIFTools—Lightweight, efficient and extensible macromolecular data management

3D macromolecular structural data is growing ever more complex and plentiful in the wake of substantive advances in experimental and computational structure determination methods including macromolecular crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and integrative methods. Efficient means of working with 3D macromolecular structural data for archiving, analyses, and visualization are central to facilitating interoperability and reusability in compliance with the FAIR Principles. We address two challenges posed by growth in data size and complexity. First, data size is reduced by bespoke compression techniques. Second, complexity is managed through improved software tooling and fully leveraging available data dictionary schemas. To this end, we introduce BinaryCIF, a serialization of Crystallographic Information File (CIF) format files that maintains full compatibility to related data schemas, such as PDBx/mmCIF, while reducing file sizes by more than a factor of two versus gzip compressed CIF files. Moreover, for the largest structures, BinaryCIF provides even better compression—factor ten and four versus CIF files and gzipped CIF files, respectively. Herein, we describe CIFTools, a set of libraries in Java and TypeScript for generic and typed handling of CIF and BinaryCIF files. Together, BinaryCIF and CIFTools enable lightweight, efficient, and extensible handling of 3D macromolecular structural data.
