This dataset includes the data and a report on the large upscaled discrete fracture network modeling done for the Utah FORGE project in 2023. The FORGE modeling team is making five discrete fracture network (DFN) realizations of a large reservoir model available to researchers. These models have been upscaled to a continuum mesh or grid at resolutions of 10 meters and 20 meters providing reservoir properties for fracture porosity, permeability, and compressibility. The models are available in both the reference global coordinate frame and a local coordinate frame aligned with principal stress directions.

FleetREDI Insight: Intrastate Coach Bus Dataset

Capturing real-world data is critical to improving efficiency and supporting technology advancements in commercial vehicles. FleetREDI’s insights provide detailed duty cycle information and highlight unique aspects of the given dataset. Each insight delivers a quick look at the collected data by summarizing the operation and identifying key findings of the initial analysis. This FleetREDI insight explores coach buses operating in Colorado. Coach buses are a primary mover for intrastate transit and are primarily used for longer trips with more comfortable seats and a restroom. All Aboard America! Holdings Inc. offers various fixed-service and charter routes across Colorado on its Bustang fleet out of its depot in Golden, Colorado. NLR installed logging devices and collected operational data on nine 40-foot Bustang motorcoaches operating on fixed routes from May through August 2022. Using NLR’s FleetREDI data platform, this dataset provides a summary of daily operation to help understand duty cycle characteristics. This includes daily distance, fuel use, and estimated engine-produced energy consumption for nine motorcoaches that operated more than 33,000 miles. These vehicles primarily operated on Interstate 25 and Interstate 70. ![FleetREDI interstate bus](FleetREDI-interstate-bus.jpg)

Report of the Condition of a General Electric Transportation Systems Gearbox

Wind power plant operations and maintenance (O&M) costs remain an appreciable contributor to the overall cost of wind energy. Premature of wind turbine gearboxes failures are often a result of abrasive wear, micropitting, scuffing, white-etch cracks, and macropitting issues. Micropitting is a fatigue phenomenon that occurs in Hertzian contacts in both gears and rolling-element bearings that operate in mixed or micro elastohydrodynamic lubrication regimes. Micropitting is influenced by and manifests itself in many different ways depending on operating conditions such as load, speed and operating temperature, and on factors such as gear geometry and accuracy, tooth flank roughness, percentage of tooth sliding, and lubricant composition. Despite much research by many investigators, micropitting remains complex, unpredictable, and difficult to control and remains a problem in wind turbine gearboxes. The purpose of this report is to document and describe the micropitting damage observed in a wind turbine gearbox, thereby facilitating further analysis and examination in future reports.

Dependence of Dust Formation on the Supernova Explosion and nuDust

Dust is ubiquitous in the interstellar medium, serving as both a source of information and headaches to astronomers, depending on who you ask. The out-flows of core collapse supernovae (CCSNe) serve as a factory for dust nucleation and are one of a few known sources of dust in the universe. From observations of local CCSNe such as 1987A and Cassiopeia A, we know that dust is abundant in CCSN ejecta prior to interacting with the ISM. Furthermore, the explosion energy, explosive engine, metallicity, and progenitor mass of the CCSN will all impact the subsequent dust formation history and composition. Observations of the supernova ejecta probe the detailed composition of the ejecta which, in turn, can be used probe the properties of the progenitor star and the process of the explosion

Hazardous Waste Management Progress Report [SB14]

The Department of Energy (DOE) is the owner and part operator of multiple facilities in Northern California. The facilities include those located at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Sandia National Laboratories/California (SNL/CA) and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) among other sites. Through their operations, the facilities generate hazardous waste and, thereby, are subject to the requirements of Chapter 31 of the Title 22 California Code of Regulations, Waste Minimization. The Northern California sites are primarily research and development facilities in the areas relating to national security, high-energy physics, engineering, bioscience and environmental health and safety disciplines. As mentioned above these DOE facilities are primarily research and development facilities. The hazardous wastes generated may be associated with operations that range in size from small, bench scale R&D to major maintenance and operations waste streams. Therefore, even though this document breaks down the waste streams based on California Waste Codes (CWC), the quantities of waste within one waste code category could be from many different locations and dissimilar processes. Because of the nature of the work at the sites, it is not economically feasible to try to implement source reduction measures for every process that generates a portion of the waste stream. This document identifies the processes that generate the major portion of the waste within an identified major waste stream and reports on progress made toward source reduction. In accomplishing the mission, it is DOE’s goal to eliminate waste generation and emissions giving priority to those that may present the greatest risk to human health and the environment.

De-Energized Line Testing Interface (DELTI) Report

To guarantee the safety of power system operations, it is crucial to understand a de-energized power line’s status before restoring power. It is hypothesized that the Grid Resonance Probe (GRP) and De-Energized Line Testing Interface (DELTI) can be utilized to identify a faulted distribution line. Therefore, the project team is targeting development of a methodology to identify faulted distribution lines by using the DELTI system. In this R&D task, two field tests on Plum Island have been conducted, including DELTI tests with multiple configurations and fault scenarios. This report provides the analysis results of distribution line fault identification from the two field tests. In the remainder of this report, Section 1 is the introduction of the DELTI system, Section 2 provides the analyses of the two field tests in June and October of 2021, respectively, Section 3 discusses the existing line fault detection devices on market and how they compare to DELTI and Section 4 includes the lessons learned and recommendations for future work.

Innovative SCR Materials and System for Low Temperature Aftertreatment

US automotive OEMs are required to meet the twin challenge of corporate average fleet fuel economy of 54.5 mpg and stringent Bin30/SULEV30 emissions standards for light duty vehicles by 2025. This creates a heavy burden on the R&D community to discover and develop the necessary enabling technologies by 2023 to integrate into powertrain systems intended for 2025. Further amplifying the emissions challenge is the reduction in engine exhaust energy resulting from more fuel-efficient powertrains and the regulatory requirement of 15-year system performance. This forces aftertreatment systems to continue to push their operational limits to increasingly lower temperatures. This CRADA will focus on a broad and very important area of critical relevance to DOE and Stellantis, i.e., development of low temperature aftertreatment approaches, while not sacrificing durability.
