Triplet Resonating Valence Bond State and Superconductivity in Hund’s Metals

A central idea in strongly correlated systems is that doping a Mott insulator leads to a superconductor by transforming the resonating valence bonds (RVBs) into spin-singlet Cooper pairs. Here, we argue that a spin-triplet RVB (tRVB) state, driven by spatially, or orbitally anisotropic ferromagnetic interactions can provide the parent state for triplet superconductivity. We apply this idea to the iron-based superconductors, arguing that strong on site Hund’s interactions develop intra-atomic tRVBs between the $t_{2_g}$ orbitals. On doping, the presence of two iron atoms per unit cell allows these interorbital triplets to coherently delocalize onto the Fermi surface, forming a fully gapped triplet superconductor. In this work, this mechanism gives rise to a unique staggered structure of on site pair correlations, detectable as an alternating π phase shift in a scanning Josephson tunneling microscope.

First Measurement of the Decay Asymmetry in the Pure W -Boson-Exchange Decay Λ c + → Ξ 0 K +

Based on 4.4 fb − 1 of e + e − annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.60 and 4.70 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the pure W -boson-exchange decay Λ c + → Ξ 0 K + is studied with a full angular analysis. The corresponding decay asymmetry is measured for the first time to be α Ξ 0 K + = 0.01 ± 0.16 ( stat ) ± 0.03 ( syst ) . This result reflects the noninterference effect between the S - and P -wave amplitudes. The phase shift between S - and P -wave amplitudes has two solutions, which are δ p − δ s = − 1.55 ± 0.25 ( stat ) ± 0.05 ( syst ) rad or 1.59 ± 0.25 ( stat ) ± 0.05 ( syst ) rad . Gauge Theory Bootstrap

We propose the gauge theory bootstrap, a method to compute the pion S matrix that describes the low-energy physics of the strong interaction and other similar gauge theories. The phase shifts of the S 0 , P 1 , and S 2 waves obtained are in good agreement with experimental results. The only numerical inputs are the quark mass m q , the QCD scale Λ QCD , the pion mass m π , and the pion decay constant f π without any other experimental data. We make use of the form-factor bootstrap recently proposed by Karateev, Kuhn, and Penedones together with a finite energy version of the Shifman-Veinshtein-Zakharov sum rules. Effect of Berry phase on nonlinear response of two-dimensional fermions

We develop a theory of nonlinear response to an electric field of two-dimensional (2D) fermions with topologically nontrivial wave functions characterized by the Berry phase Φ n = n π , n = 1 , 2 , ... . In particular, we find that owing to the suppression of backscattering at odd n , Hall field-induced resistance oscillations, which stem from elastic electron transitions between Hall field-tilted Landau levels, are qualitatively distinct from those at even n : Their amplitude decays with the electric field and their extrema are phase shifted by a quarter cycle. The theory unifies the cases of graphene ( n = 1 ) and graphite bilayer ( n = 2 ) with the case of conventional 2D electron gas ( n = 0 ) and suggests another method to probe backscattering in topological 2D systems.

Phase and contrast moiré signatures in two-dimensional cone beam interferometry

Neutron interferometry has played a distinctive role in fundamental science and characterization of materials. Moiré neutron interferometers are candidate next-generation instruments: they offer microscopy-like magnification of the signal, enabling direct camera recording of interference patterns across the full neutron wavelength spectrum. Here we demonstrate the extension of phase-grating moiré interferometry to two-dimensional geometries. Our fork-dislocation phase gratings reveal phase singularities in the moiré pattern, and we explore orthogonal moiré patterns with two-dimensional phase gratings. Our measurements of phase topologies and gravitationally induced phase shifts are in good agreement with theory. These techniques can be implemented in existing neutron instruments to advance interferometric analyses of emerging materials and precision measurements of fundamental constants. Neutron matter from local chiral effective field theory interactions at large cutoffs

Neutron matter is an important many-body system that provides valuable constraints for the equation of state (EOS) of neutron stars. Neutron-matter calculations employing chiral effective field theory (EFT) interactions have been extensively used for this purpose. Among the various many-body methods, quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) methods stand out due to their nonperturbative nature and the achievable precision. However, QMC methods require local interactions as input, which leads to the appearance of stronger regulator artifacts compared to nonlocal interactions. To circumvent this, we employ large-cutoff interactions derived within chiral EFT (400 MeV ≤ Λ 𝑐 ≤ 700MeV) for studies of pure neutron matter. These interactions have been adjusted to nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts, the triton binding energy, as well as the triton 𝛽-decay half-life. We find that regulator artifacts significantly decrease with increasing cutoff, leading to a significant reduction of uncertainties in the neutron-matter EOS. We discuss implications for the symmetry energy and demonstrate how our new calculations lead to a reduction in the theoretical uncertainty of predicted neutron-star radii by up to 30% for low-mass stars.

Active learning emulators for nuclear two-body scattering in momentum space

In this work we extend the active learning emulators for two-body scattering in coordinate space with error estimation, recently developed by Maldonado et al. [Phys. Rev. C 112, 024002], to coupled-channel scattering in momentum space. Our full-order model (FOM) solver is based on the Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation for the scattering t-matrix as opposed to the radial Schrödinger equation. We use (Petrov-)Galerkin projections and high-fidelity calculations at a few snapshots across the parameter space of the interaction to construct efficient reduced-order models (ROMs), trained by a greedy algorithm for locally optimal snapshot selection. Both the FOM solver and the corresponding ROMs are implemented efficiently in Python using Google's JAX library. We present results for emulating scattering phase shifts in coupled and uncoupled channels and cross sections, and assess the accuracy of the developed ROMs and their computational speedup factors. We also develop emulator error estimation for both the t-matrix and the total cross section. The software framework for reproducing and extending our results is publicly available. Together with our recent advances in developing active-learning emulators for three-body scattering, these emulator frameworks set the stage for full Bayesian calibrations of chiral nuclear interactions and optical models against scattering data with quantified emulator errors.

Analysis of High Frequency AC Link Isolated Three Port Resonant Converter for UAV Applications

A high frequency AC link isolated three port semi-bridgeless resonant converter is analyzed for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications in this study. The proposed topology is established by replacing rectifier lover diodes with synchronous switches. A phase shifted pulse width modulation (PS-PWM) technique adjusts bi-directional power flow between ports. Proposed control technique provides high efficiency by reducing switching losses with zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS) in a wide power range regulation. Compared to integrated PWM converters in a bi-directional mode, the proposed topology reduces the number of converter stages and allows centralized control at high operating frequency. Theoretical and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed converter at a full power of 500 W in laboratory conditions.

A Novel Decentralized PWM Interleaving Technique for Ripple Minimization in Series-Stacked DC-DC Converters

Cascaded dc-dc converters are commonly used in applications where distributed energy sources or loads are connected to elevated voltage levels for power transfer. In such systems, it is advantageous to minimize the ripple on the bus current and voltage by proper phase shifting of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) pulses among the converters via a method known as interleaving. Existing approaches use either a centralized controller or separate communication lines among the stacked converters to control their relative PWM switch transitions. The key drawbacks are that these methods entail significant wiring, the central controller acts as a single point of failure, and implementation on very large numbers of units is impractical. In this paper, we introduce a decentralized interleaving control (DIC) strategy that acts on local current measurements at every converter and achieves communication-free PWM interleaving among the series-stacked converters. The proposed controller is simple in structure and is shown to converge asymptotically to the interleaved state irrespective of clock drifts among the digital signal processors. Experimental results are provided for a system of five series-connected converters showing a 10× reduction in the current ripple compared to normal operation.

Design Optimization for Weighted Conduction Loss Minimization in a Dual-Active-Bridge-Based PV Microinverter

This manuscript presents a harmonic-superposition based frequency-domain approach for analysis and optimal design of a single-stage DAB-based DC-AC converter used in low-voltage DC to high voltage AC applications, such as PV microinverter. Specifically, two topological variations and correspondingly different modulation strategies involving up to four control variables (three phase shifts and switching frequency) are analyzed. Optimal trajectories of control variables are determined that result in minimized transformer RMS current at a given average power, while enforcing near-uniform ZVS. To make the design process holistic, an outer optimization loop is used to determine optimal values for the power transfer inductance (integrated as the transformer’s leakage inductance) and turns ratio, which minimize the weighted-average conduction loss contribution to the microinverter’s CEC efficiency. Based on the optimization analyses, a 400 W microinverter prototype is built and experimental results at one operating point are presented, achieving a measured efficiency of 92.8%.

Isolated Single-stage Three-phase AC/DC Converter using Bidirectional Switches

The advent of the SiC Bidirectional FET (BiDFET), a monolithic 1.2 kV bidirectional switch, has rendered the single-stage three-phase AC/DC converter topology a promising approach for implementing AC/DC converters. This topology, which integrates a full-bridge converter with a single-phase to three-phase matrix converter via a high-frequency transformer, is particularly suitable for applications requiring galvanic isolation, buck-boost functionality, and bidirectional power flow. The single-stage design eliminates the need for bulky and unreliable electrolytic capacitors, and utilizes a single magnetic component for power transfer. In the matrix converter, bidirectional switches, which were traditionally implemented using combinations of multiple semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, and diodes, can now be realized using the single-chip solution, BiDFET. This advancement leads to a lower switch count, compact converter implementation, with lower inductance commutation cells, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and compactness of the system. The paper presents a unified model of the converter, considering all control parameters, including the duty cycles and phase shift of transformer voltages. Detailed expressions for power transfer, transformer currents, and currents at AC and DC ports are provided. Additionally, the paper outlines the conditions necessary for soft-switching of all switches and the commutation schemes required for the practical implementation of the matrix converter modulation scheme. A hardware prototype of a 10 kW, 480 VRMS, LL/ 800 V AC/DC system has been developed, and experimental results are presented to demonstrate its performance.

Comparison of Dead-Time Effects in a WPT System Inverter for Different Fixed-Frequency Modulation Techniques

In this paper, a comparative study of the dead-time effects in a wireless power transfer (WPT) system inverter is performed for different fixed-frequency control techniques. The dead-time is provided between the complementary switching instances of the inverter phase-legs to ensure safe operation of the input power source. Under certain operating conditions, the dead-time results in waveform distortions or voltage-polarity reversal (VPR) at the inverter output. The VPR affects the switching characteristics, harmonic spectrum, switching losses, and output voltage/power of the system. A detailed analysis of the dead-time effect on the WPT system parameters such as output voltage and output power is conducted for the different fixed-frequency control strategies (i.e., traditional phase-shift control, asymmetrical clamped-mode, and asymmetrical duty-cycle control). Furthermore, the impact of dead-time on the inverter switching losses is compared for the different control strategies.

Constant Frequency ZVS PWM Converter

In this paper, a simple yet novel buck or boost adaptive zero-voltage switching (ZVS) converter topology is proposed for soft switching pulse-width modulation (PWM) dc / dc converters. The converter is designed for the high switching frequency that can achieve high efficiency by reducing switching losses for the entire load range at low and high power. Besides, the output at the load terminals is maintained by a PWM signal at a fixed switching frequency, a phase shift signal between converter ports (legs) controls the system circulating current in order to provide the ZVS condition in all load conditions. With the proposed controller, the converter, thus, is suitable for high switching frequency and high-power applications with the small volume. The proposed dc / dc converter operation is analyzed, designed, and confirmed by simulation results for 240 V input, 400 V / 5 A output, and 200 kHz operating frequency at full load.

Adaptive Reinforcement Learning Control for Power Distribution in Multi-Output Resonant Converters

This paper presents an adaptive reinforcement learning (ARL)-based control framework for efficient power distribution in a multi-output resonant converter for UAV applications. The proposed system is based on a high-frequency isolated resonant architecture, where a single energy source supplies multiple propulsion loads through independently controlled output rectifiers, addressing the need for coordinated multi-motor power management. The ARL framework dynamically allocates output power by learning optimal phase-shift control actions under varying load demands and operating conditions. The agent autonomously determines control parameters that maximize conversion efficiency while ensuring accurate power sharing among multiple outputs. In addition, the proposed approach enables adaptive operation without requiring detailed system modeling or manual tuning. Experimental results demonstrate stable and efficient performance over a wide range of operating conditions, confirming the effectiveness and robustness of the learning-based control strategy for multi-output resonant converter system.

Design Optimization of Medium-Frequency Transformer for DAB Converters With DC Bias Capacity

Medium-frequency transformer (MFT) dc bias is critical for the safe operation of dual-active-bridge (DAB) converters. To analyze the dc bias, expressions of dc bias are derived for SiC MOSFET DAB converters. It shows that the dc bias is a current source in steady state; thus, a dc bias current capacity is defined and used as a design constraint in the optimization of MFT. The dc bias current capacity is related to core materials, geometric parameters, and flux density, which is analyzed with analytical expression. Optimization equations with geometric variables are derived, which can be solved theoretically or numerically for both interleaved winding (IW) and separated winding (SW) MFT without and/or with leakage inductance design. Based on the optimization equations, different MFT designs for a 150-kW SiC MOSFET DAB converter are compared on the aspects of core materials, winding structures, and without/with leakage inductance design. The combination of IW structure MFT with auxiliary phase shift inductors is chosen, and the assembled prototype is tested with the 150-kW DAB converter. Here, the designed dc bias capacity, temperature rise, and efficiency are verified.

Analysis and Control of a Three-Port Converter with High-Frequency AC Link for Hybrid Unmanned/Autonomous Aerial Vehicles

In this study, a three-port resonant converter with a high-frequency isolation link for hybrid unmanned/autonomous aerial vehicle (UAV/AAV) applications is analyzed. The rectified engine-generator set output supplies the first input ports while the other is connected to a battery energy storage system. Input ports consist of half-bridge high-frequency inverters, whereas output port utilizes a semi-bridgeless active rectifier. This rectifier is formed by replacing rectifier low-side diodes with active switching devices. A phase-shift duty-cycle control is implemented for switching signals to regulate the power share and flow between ports. The proposed control system implemented achieves zero voltage switching (ZVS), reduces switching losses, and minimum current flow optimization ensures regulation in a wide range of output power. Compared to the existing bidirectional pulse width modulation (PWM) converters, the proposed system decreases the number of power conversion stages and provides centralized control without needing communications between the ports. The proposed control technique operating in closed-loop control achieves the power flow between ports under various load conditions. Finally, theoretical analysis demonstrates the proposed converter’s viability and laboratory experimental validations at 500 W full power.
