Analytical estimates of beam intensity limitations in the EIC Beam Accumulator Ring

This report summarizes analytical estimates of beam intensity limitations in the Beam Accumulator Ring (BAR), a part of the Electron-Ion Collider injector complex under development at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The BAR is designed to accumulate a polarized electron beam with a single-bunch charge up to 28 nC for subsequent acceleration in the Rapid Cycling Synchrotron and then injection into the Electron Storage Ring. Analytical models of longitudinal and transverse collective effects are developed using a broadband impedance model calibrated with the beam-based measurement results from NSLS VUV. The study evaluates the impact of resistive-wall and geometric impedances, assessing microwave and transverse mode coupling instabilities, bunch lengthening, and beam-induced heating.

California Bridge to the EIC: Building a Diverse Workforce for Nuclear Physics Research at the Electron Ion Collider

The California Bridge to the Electron Ion Collider traineeship program established an integrated workforce development effort connecting University of California campuses, California State University Minority Serving Institutions, and DOE national laboratories. The program expanded participation in nuclear physics research among students from underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds while strengthening collaborative activities aligned with the future Electron Ion Collider. During the award period, trainees conducted experimental, theoretical, and computational research, participated in consortium meetings and national laboratory collaborations, and received structured mentoring and professional development. The program achieved strong outcomes in graduate school placement, STEM career transitions, and sustained engagement with DOE Nuclear Physics research.

Probing the Gluon Orbital Angular Momentum at the EIC

In these proceedings, we calculate double-spin asymmetry (DSA) in exclusive dijet production in ep collisions and we demonstrate for the first time that the cos(Φ) angular correlation between the scattered electron and proton is a simultaneous probe of the gluon orbital angular momentum and its interplay with the gluon helicity. We make a rough estimate of the DSA for the kinematics of the Electron–Ion Collider.

A laboratory study of ion energization by EIC waves and subsequent upstreaming along diverging magnetic field lines

A laboratory study related to energetic upstreaming ions in the ionosphere-magnetosphere system is described. The experiment was carried out in a cesium Q machine plasma with a region of nonuniform magnetic field. Electrostatic ion cyclotron waves were excited by drawing an electron current to a small biased exciter electrode. In the presence of the instability, ions are heated in the direction perpendicular to B. Using a gridded retarding potential ion energy analyzer, the evolution of the ion velocity distribution was followed as the ions passed through the heating region and subsequently flowed out along the diverging B field lines. As expected, the heated ions transfer their energy from perpendicular to parallel motion as they move through the region of diverging B field. Both their parallel thermal energy and the parallel drift energy increase at the expense of the perpendicular energy.
