Calibration of the Mu2e momentum scale using $\pi^{+}\rightarrow e^{+}\nu_{e}$ decays

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for the neutrinoless muon-to-electron conversion in the nuclear field by stopping negative muons on an Al target. The experimental signature of $\mu^{-}$ to $e^{-}$ conversion on Al is the observation of mono-energetic electrons with 104.97 MeV produced by the lepton violating reaction. Rejection of one of the most important experimental backgrounds coming from muon Decays-In-Orbit requires a momentum resolution $<1\%$ FWHM and a momentum scale calibrated to an accuracy of better than $0.1\%$ or $0.1$ MeV at an electron energy of $\sim$100 MeV. Among other momentum scale calibration techniques, the collaboration is considering using 68.9 MeV positrons from decays of stopped positive pions. This calibration measurement has a significant background dominated by the muon decays-in-flight affecting the calibration accuracy. In this article, we discuss the momentum calibration measurement results.

Systematic Uncertainties in the NOvA \nu_\mu-Disappearance Analysis

As the NOvA long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment takes more data, systematic uncertainty begins to more heavily impact the oscillation analyses. The largest effects are calibration on calorimetric energy, detector modeling on muon energy scale, and near-detector pileup on normalization of the far-detector expectation. Cross-section systematics will be discussed in another poster. Detailed studies have justified previous systematics as too conservative and suggested smaller values. Focused study of detector modeling using dE/dx and external measurements constrain the calibration and energy scale uncertainties. A novel technique is used to assess the impact of activity from neutrino activity piling up over signal, where a simulated neutrino is overlaid into both data and simulation. The difference in efficiency of selecting that single neutrino among data and simulated spills then dominates the normalization systematic.

$\bar{\nu}_\mu$ charged-current $\pi^0$ data release

Data release for the NOvA muon antineutrino charged-current (CC) pi^0 cross section presented in arXiv:2511.05807. The signal for this analysis is defined as muon antineutrino CC interactions in the fiducial volume of the NOvA near detector (a 2.7 m × 2.7 m × 9.0 m region) that produce at least one pi^0 in the final state emerging from the nucleus, within the phase space of muon momentum [0.5, 2.5) GeV/c and muon angle [0, 60) degree, as described in arXiv:2511.05807. The released zip file contains two files: NOvA_NumubarCCPi0_DataRelease.root README.txt The ROOT file includes the cross-section results as well as the statistical and systematic covariance matrices for each variable used in this analysis. The README provides a detailed description of the contents of the data release. Official Flux: The flux used in this analysis is available from the NOvA Public Docs: https://publicdocs.fnal.gov/cgi-bin/ShowDocument?docid=8. File structure --- The ROOT file contains the following TDirectories: pi0p - pi^0 momentum distributions pi0dir - pi^0 angular distributions muonp - muon momentum distributions muondir - muon angular distributions Q2 - reconstructed Q^2 distributions Wmass - reconstructed W_mass distributions Each directory contains three histograms: xsec (TH1D): Cross section result cov_stat (TH2D): Statistical covariance matrix cov_syst (TH2D): Systematic covariance matrix Usage notes: - xsec gives the measured differential cross section w.r.t. the corresponding variable. - cov_stat and cov_syst provide the full covariance matrices. - The bin definitions and kinematic phase spaces follow those used in arXiv:2511.05807. Citation --- If you use these data, please cite: NOvA Collaboration, arXiv:2511.05807.

Saturn - A study of the 3 nu sub 3 methane band.

Photometric spectra are given for various manifolds of the R-branch of this methane band of Saturn. The spectra were obtained by measurements, primarily in the winter of 1970, along the planet's central meridian. Analysis of the manifold shapes in terms of a reflecting-layer model proved largely self-consistent. It implies a rotational temperature of about 140 K and a C/H ratio in Saturn's atmosphere which is close to that on the sun.

Spectral transmission measurements in the nu sub 6 fundamental of /C-12/H3D at 8.65 microns

Spectral transmission measurements were performed at 300 K in the 8.65-micron fundamental band of monodeuterated methane, a trace constituent in the atmosphere of Jupiter. A theoretical curve is obtained from line-by-line computation of the spectral transmission utilizing a triangular slit function with full width at half-maximum. The agreement between theoretical and experimental spectral transmission curves suggests that deuteration does not affect the collision-broadened half-widths significantly in the two extreme cases of broadening being considered.
