Investigating Actuation Force Fight with Asynchronous and Synchronous Redundancy Management Techniques

Within distributed fault-tolerant systems the term force-fight is colloquially used to describe the level of command disagreement present at redundant actuation interfaces. This report details an investigation of force-fight using three distributed system case-study architectures. Each case study architecture is abstracted and formally modeled using the Symbolic Analysis Laboratory (SAL) tool chain from the Stanford Research Institute (SRI). We use the formal SAL models to produce k-induction based proofs of a bounded actuation agreement property. We also present a mathematically derived bound of redundant actuation agreement for sine-wave stimulus. The report documents our experiences and lessons learned developing the formal models and the associated proofs.

Monitoring Method and Apparatus Using Asynchronous, One-Way Transmission from Sensor to Base Station

A monitoring system is disclosed, which includes a base station and at least one sensor unit that is separate from the base station. The at least one sensor unit resides in a dormant state until it is awakened by the triggering of a vibration-sensitive switch. Once awakened, the sensor may take a measurement, and then transmit to the base station the measurement. Once data is transmitted from the sensor to the base station, the sensor may return to its dormant state. There may be various sensors for each base station and the various sensors may optionally measure different quantities, such as current, voltage, single-axis and/or three-axis magnetic fields.

Micron MT29F128G08AJAAA 128GB Asynchronous Flash Memory Total Ionizing Dose Characterization Test Report

The purpose of this test was to characterize the Micron MT29F128G08AJAAAs parameter degradation for total dose response and to evaluate and compare lot date codes for sensitivity. In the test, the device was exposed to both low dose and high dose rate (HDR) irradiations using gamma radiation. Device parameters such as leakage currents, quantity of upset bits and overall chip and die health were investigated to determine which lot is more robust.

Using Formal to Exhaustively Determine Unsafe Clock Ratios Between Asynchronous Blocks

In this paper we will show how formal property checking can be used to exhaustively sweep the range of allowable clock ratios between any two blocks to determine if their correct operation is maintained. First, we obtain, or create, models of the sending and receiving blocks (in either VHDL or Verilog). After basic functional validation of these models, we then write the property set to reflect the functional requirements of each block. As the clocks between them allow for a range of frequency ratios, we employ the formal analysis principal of nondeterminism to lock-on to a particular supported frequency ratio and prove that the functional requirements are still met.

Enhanced Air-Cooling System with Optimized Asynchronously-Cooled Thermal Energy Storage

A transformative dry-cooling system that includes two primary dry-cooling components has been developed in this project. The two main features of this new technology consist of: (a) an ultra-enhanced air-cooled condenser (ACC), with novel swirl-producing and boundary-layer disrupting enhanced surface on the air-side of the condenser that substantially increase the heat transfer coefficients, and (b) a novel daytime peak-load shifting system that reduces the ambient air inlet temperature for air cooling, consisting of a highly compact and enhanced air pre-cooler that transfers the heat load to a unique thermal energy storage (TES), and which is coupled to the ACC in (a).

Systems and methods for automatic data management for an asynchronous task-based runtime

A compilation system can define, at compile time, the data blocks to be managed by an Even Driven Task (EDT) based runtime/platform, and can also guide the runtime/platform on when to create and/or destroy the data blocks, so as to improve the performance of the runtime/platform. The compilation system can also guide, at compile time, how different tasks may access the data blocks they need in a manner that can improve performance of the tasks.

Optimized asynchronous training of neural networks using a distributed parameter server with eager updates

A method of training a neural network includes, at a local computing node, receiving remote parameters from a set of one or more remote computing nodes, initiating execution of a forward pass in a local neural network in the local computing node to determine a final output based on the remote parameters, initiating execution of a backward pass in the local neural network to determine updated parameters for the local neural network, and prior to completion of the backward pass, transmitting a subset of the updated parameters to the set of remote computing nodes.

Handling gait disturbances with asynchronous timing

An example method may include i) detecting a disturbance to a gait of a robot, where the gait includes a swing state and a step down state, the swing state including a target swing trajectory for a foot of the robot, and where the target swing trajectory includes a beginning and an end; and ii) based on the detected disturbance, causing the foot of the robot to enter the step down state before the foot reaches the end of the target swing trajectory.
