Transcriptomic data sets for Novosphingobium aromaticivorans grown with the β-5-linked aromatic dimer dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol and the related G-aromatic monomers vanillin and ferulic acid

ABSTRACT The transcriptomes of a 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylic acid-producing strain of Novosphingobium aromaticivorans DSM12444 were determined when grown in minimal medium containing glucose alone or glucose plus vanillin, ferulic acid, or the β-5-linked aromatic dimer dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol as carbon sources. Here, we present the RNA-sequencing data we obtained.

Pressure-Induced Dimerization of C 60 at Room Temperature as Revealed by an In Situ Spectroscopy Study Using an Infrared Laser

Using in situ high-pressure Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, the polymerization and structure evaluation of C 60 were studied up to 16 GPa at room temperature. The use of an 830 nm laser successfully eliminated the photo-polymerization of C 60 , which has interfered with the pressure effect in previous studies when a laser with a shorter wavelength was used as excitation. It was found that face-centered cubic (fcc) structured C 60 transformed into simple cubic (sc) C 60 due to the hint of free rotation for the C 60 at 0.3 GPa. The pressure-induced dimerization of C 60 was found to occur at about 3.2 GPa at room temperature. Our results suggest the benefit and importance of the choice of the infrared laser as the excitation laser.

Comparative Study of High-Resolution LysB29(Nε-myristoyl) des(B30) Insulin Structures Display Novel Dynamic Causal Interrelations in Monomeric-Dimeric Motions

The treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus is characterized by artificial supplementation of pancreatic β-cell ability to regulate sugar levels in the blood. Even though various insulin analogs are crucial for reasonable glycemic control, understanding the dynamic mechanism of the insulin analogs may help to improve the best-protracted insulin analog to assist people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to live comfortably while maintaining tight glycemic control. Here, we present the high-resolution crystal structure of NN304, known as insulin detemir, to 1.7 Å resolution at cryogenic temperature. We computationally further investigated our crystal structure’s monomeric-dimeric conformation and dynamic profile by comparing it with a previously available detemir structure (PDB ID: 1XDA). Our structure (PDB ID: 8HGZ), obtained at elevated pH, provides electrostatically triggered minor movements in the equilibrium between alternate conformational substates compared to the previous structure, suggesting it might induce an intermediate state in the dissociation pathway of the insulin detemir’s hexamer:dihexamer equilibrium. Supplemented with orientational cross-correlation analysis by a Gaussian network model (GNM), this alternate oligomeric conformation offers the distinct cooperative motions originated by loose coupling of distant conformational substates of a protracted insulin analog that has not been previously observed.

Ebola and Marburg virus matrix layers are locally ordered assemblies of VP40 dimers

Filoviruses such as Ebola and Marburg virus bud from the host membrane as enveloped virions. This process is achieved by the matrix protein VP40. When expressed alone, VP40 induces budding of filamentous virus-like particles, suggesting that localization to the plasma membrane, oligomerization into a matrix layer, and generation of membrane curvature are intrinsic properties of VP40. There has been no direct information on the structure of VP40 matrix layers within viruses or virus-like particles. We present structures of Ebola and Marburg VP40 matrix layers in intact virus-like particles, and within intact Marburg viruses. VP40 dimers assemble extended chains via C-terminal domain interactions. These chains stack to form 2D matrix lattices below the membrane surface. These lattices form a patchwork assembly across the membrane and suggesting that assembly may begin at multiple points. Our observations define the structure and arrangement of the matrix protein layer that mediates formation of filovirus particles.

Solvent-Free Dimerization of Isoprene at Ambient Temperature: A Green Route to Biofuel-Range Hydrocarbons

In order to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2050, the global aviation industry must reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. In this regard, there is a global challenge to produce sufficient sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from renewable sources. Isoprene is an intermediate molecule that can be derived from multiple biomass-based or biosynthetic routes. Here, in this work, we report a green route for the catalytic conversion of isoprene to hydrocarbons that are suitable for aviation fuel. By using an Amberlyst-15 catalyst without metal loading at ambient temperature (19–23 °C), as well as 40 °C, 50 °C, and 60 °C, isoprene was converted into olefinic precursors for SAF and/or blending with conventional aviation fuels. Specifically, at ambient temperature, the process achieved approximately 70 wt % conversion of isoprene with over 50 mol % carbon selectivity toward the aviation fuel range. The resulting SAF-range hydrocarbons were composed of iso-alkenes, branched olefinic monocyclic compounds, and bicyclic compounds, covering a wide range of aviation fuel components. Our work demonstrates, for the first time, the formation of diverse hydrocarbon families for SAF and/or aviation fuel blending at ambient temperature from isoprene.

Bond Dissociation Energy, Ionization Energy, and Electronic Structure of Thorium Dimer

Diatomic thorium, Th 2 , has been investigated using a laser ablation, supersonic expansion source to produce the molecule and resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy to measure its bond dissociation energy (BDE) and ionization energy (IE). The molecule has a high density of states in the vicinity of its bond dissociation energy, leading to rapid predissociation as soon as this energy is exceeded. The BDE is identified from this predissociation threshold as D 0 (Th 2 ) = 2.857(7) eV, where the assigned error limit is provided in parentheses in units of the last quoted digit. Similarly, the one-photon ionization threshold has been measured, providing the ionization energy IE(Th 2 ) = 5.042(4) eV. Together with a thermochemical cycle and the atomic ionization energy, these values provide the BDE of the cation, giving D 0 (Th 2 + ) = 4.122(8) eV. Computations show that Th 2 has three nearly degenerate low-lying electronic states (1 3 Σ u + , 1 1 Σ g + , and 1 3 Δ g ) with bonding dominated by 7s and 6d orbitals, indicating predominantly transition-metal-like behavior. The 1 3 Σ u + state exhibits a triple bond, whereas the 1 1 Σ g + and 1 3 Δ g states possess quadruple-bond character and correspondingly shorter bonds. Although 1 3 Σ u + is predicted to be the lowest state without spin–orbit coupling, the large spin–orbit stabilization of the 1 3 Δ g state makes its Ω = 1 g component the ground state. Furthermore, the calculated dissociation energy (2.840 eV) and ionization energy of Th 2 (5.098 eV) are both in excellent agreement with experiment.
