Slitting flat conductor cables with the single cutting edge slitter

Manually operated slitter can cut single slit in flat conductor cable to any desired length. Lateral position of flat conductor cable is adjusted with aid of optical magnifier and cursor glass to ensure that slit is accurately placed between conductors. Multiple slits may be made by repeating procedure for single slit.

A study analysis of cable-body systems totally immersed in a fluid stream

A general stability analysis of a cable-body system immersed in a fluid stream is presented. The analytical portion of this analysis treats the system as being essentially a cable problem, with the body dynamics giving the end conditions. The mathematical form of the analysis consists of partial differential wave equations, with the end and auxiliary conditions being determined from the body equations of motion. The equations uncouple to give a lateral problem and a longitudinal problem as in first order airplane dynamics. A series of tests on a tethered wind tunnel model provide a comparison of the theory with experiment.

Flat conductor cable for electrical packaging

Flat conductor cable (FCC) is relatively new, highly promising means for electrical packaging and system integration. FCC offers numerous desirable traits (weight, volume and cost savings, flexibility, high reliability, predictable and repeatable electrical characteristics) which make it extremely attractive as a packaging medium. FCC, today, finds wide application in everything from integration of lunar equipment to the packaging of electronics in nuclear submarines. Described are cable construction and means of termination, applicable specifications and standards, and total FCC systems. A list of additional sources of data is also included for more intensive study.

Analysis of Surveyor 3 television cable

A sample of cable described as four inches of TV cable, fabric wrapped, which had been exposed to the atmosphere for an unknown period of time, was subjected to extensive chemical analyses for the various components. The fabric was tested using attenuated total reflectance, chloroform extract, aqueous extraction, pyrolysis infrared, and reflectance spectroscopy. The wire insulation was tested using pyrolysis infrared, pyrolysis gas chromatography, differential thermal analysis, attenuated total reflectance subsurface, and tensile tests. Corrosion was also observed in parts of certain wires.

Microbiological sampling of returned Surveyor 3 electrical cabling

A piece of electrical wiring bundle running from the television camera to another part of the spacecraft was selected for microbiological examination. Sampling methods are discussed. The results presented show that no viable microorganisms were recovered from the part of the Surveyor 3 cable which was tested. Factors that could have contributed to the sterility of the cable are thermal vacuum testing, natural dieoff, change in pressure during launch, and lunar vacuum and temperature.

Cable Connected Spinning Spacecraft, 1. the Canonical Equations, 2. Urban Mass Transportation, 3

Work on the dynamics of cable-connected spinning spacecraft was completed by formulating the equations of motion by both the canonical equations and Lagrange's equations and programming them for numerical solution on a digital computer. These energy-based formulations will permit future addition of the effect of cable mass. Comparative runs indicate that the canonical formulation requires less computer time. Available literature on urban mass transportation was surveyed. Areas of the private rapid transit concept of urban transportation are also studied.

Termination of flat conductor cable to NASA/MSFC plugs

Data, supplemented with artwork, are presented on the major steps involved with terminating flat conductor cable (FCC) to MSFC's FCC plugs. Cable and shield preparation steps include material cutting, insulation stripping, and plating of exposed conductors. Methods and equipment required to terminate FCC to each of four MSFC plugs are described.

Hypervelocity impact testing of L-band truss cable meteoroid shielding on Skylab

A series of tests was performed to determine the protection provided by the L-band truss cable meteoroid shielding installed on Skylab space station at space environment temperatures of minus 180 F. The damage sustained when three test specimens were impacted by spherical projectiles at hypersonic speed was investigated. It is concluded that the L-band truss cable meteoroid shielding provides adequate protection at the indicated temperature.

The three dimensional motion and stability of a rotating space station-cable-counterweight configuration

The three dimensional equations of motion for a cable connected space station-counterweight system are developed using a Lagrangian formulation. The system model employed allows for cable and end body damping and restoring effects. The equations are then linearized about the equilibrium motion and nondimensionalized. To first degree, the out-of-plane equations uncouple from the in-plane equations. From the general in-plane characteristic equation, necessary conditions for stability are obtained. The Routh-Hurwitz necessary and sufficient conditions for stability are derived for the general out-of-plane characteristic equation. Special cases of the in-plane and out-of-plane equations are then examined for stability. Time constants for the least damped mode are obtained for a range of system parameters by numerical examination of the roots of the in-plane and out-of-plane characteristic polynomials.

Testing of flat conductor cable to Underwriters Laboratory standards UL719 and UL83

The flat conductor cable (FCC) which was tested consisted of three AWG No. 12 flat copper conductors laminated between two films of polyethylene terephthalate (Mylar) insulation with a self-extinguishing polyester adhesive. Results of the tests conducted on this cable, according to specifications, warrants the use of this FCC for electrical interconnections in a surface nonmetallic protective covering.
