AmeriFlux US-VT2 Vermillion Tributary Paired Cropland – Site 2 (Corn/Soy; Cover Crops)

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site US-VT2 Vermillion Tributary Paired Cropland – Site 2 (Corn/Soy; Cover Crops). Site Description - US-VT2 is located on flat, actively managed farmland operated by working farmers, following a conventional no-till corn–soybean rotation in the U.S. Midwest that uses cover crops. US-VT2 is one of two paired working farm sites on the same property; both are managed using similar conventional practices, with the key difference being that the paired site (US-VT1) does not incorporate cover crops into its rotation. This paired design enables direct site-to-site comparisons to assess the impacts of cover cropping on carbon, water, and energy fluxes.

Panama tropical forest digital camera imagery for vegetation phenology, Dec2016-May2019, PA-SLZ, PA-PNM, PA-BCI

Tropical forest phenology monitoring undertaken by use of Wingscapes timelapse cameras (phenocams) at three tropical evergreen forests in Panama: San Lorenzo, Parque Natural Metropolitano, and Barro Colorado Island. Following installation in December 2016, images were acquired every 10 minutes from 10 am to 2 pm daily, ending in May 2019. A total of 37 cameras were mounted on towers and tree branches, and view sunlit canopy or understory forest as follows: PA-SLZ, 11 canopy, 14 understory; PA-PNM, 6 canopy, 2 understory, PA-BCI, 4 canopy (trees also monitored for sap flow). This data package contains a full data description, metadata, species identification guides and summary files showing example fields of view from each camera location as csv and pdf files. The data description provides instructions for download of the full resolution image files, and other summary data products stored on external servers.

Blind photovoltaic modeling intercomparison: A multidimensional data analysis and lessons learned

The Photovoltaic (PV) Performance Modeling Collaborative (PVPMC) organized a blind PV performance modeling intercomparison to allow PV modelers to blindly test their models and modeling ability against real system data. Measured weather and irradiance data were provided along with detailed descriptions of PV systems from two locations (Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, and Roskilde, Denmark). Participants were asked to simulate the plane-of-array irradiance, module temperature, and DC power output from six systems and submit their results to Sandia for processing. The results showed overall median mean bias (i.e., the average error per participant) of 0.6% in annual irradiation and –3.3% in annual energy yield. While most PV performance modeling results seem to exhibit higher precision and accuracy as compared to an earlier blind PV modeling study in 2010, human errors, modeling skills, and derates were found to still cause significant errors in the estimates.

AmeriFlux US-LS1 San Pedro River Lewis Springs Sacaton Grassland

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site US-LS1 San Pedro River Lewis Springs Sacaton Grassland. Site Description - This is a riparian grassland located along an old alluvial terrace along the banks of the entrenched San Pedro River in southeastern Arizona. Site climate is semiarid with monsoonal (Jul-Sep) rainfall. The grasses access groundwater (depth of 2-4 m)from an alluvial aquifer recharged elsewhere. Site water balance is not closed and ET greatly exceeds precipitation. The perennial bunchgrasses use both rainfall, groundwater and occasional flood water. This groundwater-using ecosystem is far more ebulliant and productive than the upland vegetation around it (shrublands and grasslands) outside of the San Pedro River corridor.

AmeriFlux US-xMB NEON Moab (MOAB)

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site US-xMB NEON Moab (MOAB). Site Description - The NEON MOAB site is located approximately 40 km south of the town of Moab and is characteristic of the Colorado Plateau. MOAB was selected with other sites that share a similar latitude in domains 10, 13, and 15, to assess dust generation, nutrient transport, and nutrient deposition. The western half of the site, including the tower airshed, is a grazed shrub land, often with pockets of barren soil. To the east, in the higher elevations, evergreen forests sit atop the mesas. Biological soil crust, dominated by cyanobacteria, is a living groundcover across the area.
