Atomic system ground state energy upper bound, considering internuclear distances and removal of restriction for negative definite potential energy operator
The connection between the Van Kampen and Landau representations of the Vlasov equations has been extended to Fourier-Hermite expansions containing more than 1000 terms by taking advantage of the properties of tridiagonal matrices. These numerical results are regarded as conclusive indications of the nonuniformly convergent behavior of the approximation curve in the limit of an infinite number of terms and represent an extension of work begun by Grant (1967) and by Grant and Feix (1967).
A FORTRAN subroutine to NASTRAN which constructs coriolis and centripetal acceleration matrices, and a centrifugal load vector due to spin about a selected point or about the mass center of the structure is discussed. The rigid translational degrees of freedom can be removed by using a transformation matrix T and its explicitly given inverse. These matrices are generated in the subroutine and their explicit expressions are given.
Analytical models of three structures were used to test mass matrix-reduction schemes. Accuracy of four mode shapes and frequencies was tracked through successive mass matrix-reductions with diminishing numbers of indicator degrees of freedom. Results were consistently disappointing. Two new procedures were developed in attempt to improve accuracy.
This algorithm is an extension of Moler and Stewart's QZ algorithm with some added features for saving time and operations. Also, some additional properties of the QR algorithm which were not practical to implement in the QZ algorithm can be generalized with the combination shift QZ algorithm. Numerous test cases are presented to give practical application tests for algorithm. Based on results, this algorithm should be preferred over existing algorithms which attempt to solve the class of generalized eigenproblems where both matrices are singular or nearly singular.
Desired roots are first isolated by Sturm sequence procedure. Then special variant of inverse iteration technique is applied for individual determination of each root along with its vector. Program was written in FORTRAN V for UNIVAC 1100-series computers.

The investigation reported demonstrates that in the case considered perturbation methods can be used in a straightforward manner to obtain reanalysis information. A perturbation formula for the buckling loads of a general shell of revolution is derived. The accuracy of the obtained relations and their range of application is studied with the aid of a specific example involving a particular stiffened shell of revolution.
A particular measure of pattern class distinction called the average interclass divergence, or more simply, divergence, is considered. Here divergence will be the pairwise average of the expected interclass divergence derived from Hajek's two-class divergence.

The mathematics involved in numerically solving for the plane boundary value of the Laplace equation by the grid method is developed. The approximate solution of a boundary value problem for the domain of the Laplace equation by the grid method consists of finding u at the grid corner which satisfies the equation at the internal corners (u=Du) and certain boundary value conditions at the boundary corners.
An analytical solution is presented for the baroclinic stability problem of a Boussinesq fluid in a beta-plane channel with Ekman suction boundary conditions. All of the modes, stable and unstable, belonging to this problem are identified. It is found that an unstable mode exists for only a certain range of values of the Burger number. The value of the Burger number at the upper limit of this range increases as the Ekman number decreases. Beyond this upper limit only a damped mode exists. It is also found that this transition in parameter space from the unstable to the stable mode occurs in a discontinuous manner.
Symmetric cross-ply laminated plates are analyzed by employing a previously presented affine stretching process, some material constant definitions from Tsai (1964), and by gneralizing existing similarity rules. As examples, similarity rules are employed to find the frequency spectrum of a cross-ply symmetric plate from the corresponding isotropic solution, and a similarity solution is presented for the vibration of an axially loaded, simply supported cross-ply symmetric plate. Buckling similarity rules are also presented.
A pole placement algorithm is proposed which uses constrained nonlinear optimization techniques on a finite dimensional model of a linear n degree of freedom system. Low order feedback control is assumed where r poles may be assigned; r being the rank of the sensor coefficient matrix. It is shown that by combining feedback control theory methods with optimization techniques, one can ensure the stability characteristics of a system, and can alter its transient response.
Exact eigenfunctions for a two-dimensional rigid rotor are obtained using Gaussian wave packet dynamics. The wave functions are obtained by propagating, without approximation, an infinite set of Gaussian wave packets that collectively have the correct periodicity, being coherent states appropriate to this rotational problem. This result leads to a numerical method for the semiclassical calculation of rovibrational, molecular eigenstates. Also, a simple, almost classical, approximation to full wave packet dynamics is shown to give exact results: this leads to an a posteriori justification of the De Leon-Heller spectral quantization method.
