Producing circular field harmonics inside elliptic magnet apertures with superconducting canted-cosine-theta coils
Superconducting magnets with noncircular aperture are desired for accelerators and many other high-field applications. This paper presents new methods for the analytic design of elliptic bore superconducting accelerator magnets. Part 1 of this work shares the derivation of current to field relations between a sheet current density on an elliptic cylinder and the magnetic field harmonics inside the aperture. This result is explored in the general context of elliptic bore magnet design with relevant scaling laws compared between elliptic and circular bore magnets. In part 2, this approach is applied to the specific geometry of canted-cosine-theta (CCT) accelerator magnets, enabling analytic winding design for single or mixed circular harmonics within elliptic aperture CCT magnets. Aviation Mission Profile Performance Evaluation in a High Specific Power Surface Permanent Magnet Machine with Additively Manufactured Coils and Integrated Heat Pipes
The purpose of this paper is to accurately evaluate the performance and overall efficiency of an electrical machine driving a propeller (as a part of a hybrid or electric propulsion system) during the flight mission profile using electromagnetic-thermal simulations. The study focuses on a 250 kW, 5000 rpm, 1.25 kHz, 36/30 slot/pole surface permanent magnet (SPM) machine with additively manufactured (AM) hollow conductors and integrated heat pipes (HP). The machine drive parameters (frequency, and current) are tuned to maximize the efficiency for a given flight cycle, while providing the highest specific power (SP) during takeoff. Afterward using Multiphysics simulations, the transient thermal behavior of the machine is studied and temperature profile for different parts of the machine is extracted. Finally, steady-state temperatures during cruising are estimated and overall efficiency is re-evaluated.
The Sensitivity Analysis of Coil Misalignment for a 200-kW Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer System with an LCC-S and LCC-P Compensation
The dynamic wireless power transfer systems may reduce the battery size of electric vehicles while maintaining the travel range. Similar to the stationary wireless power transfer systems, the compensation networks are desired in dynamic wireless charging systems at the primary and secondary sides to reduce the reactive power requirement from the source and improve the efficiency. Consequently, it is essential to understand the behavior of the compensation networks, especially the sensitivity to misalignments. This paper presents a sensitivity analysis of LCC-S and LCC-P compensation networks for a 200-kW power transfer with variations in the coupling coefficient due to the electric vehicle travel and misalignments between the pads. The sensitivity study combines the electromagnetic finite element analysis and circuit analysis to determine the impact of misalignments on the wireless power transfer system characteristics. The theoretical analysis is verified by conducting circuit simulations at discrete points to verify the accuracy of the mathematical model.

Development and Test of a Large-aperture Nb3Sn Cos-theta Dipole Coil with Stress Management
The design concept of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC), which is under construction at BNL, considers adding a 2nd Interaction Region (IR) and detector to the machine after completion of the present EIC project. Recent progress with development and fabrication of large-aperture high-field magnets based on the Nb3Sn technology for the HL-LHC makes this technology interesting for the 2nd EIC IR. This paper summarizes the results of feasibility studies of large-aperture high-field Nb3Sn dipoles and quadrupoles for the 2nd EIC IR.
