Comprehensive Chemical Fingerprinting by Multidimensional GC and Supervised Machine Learning

This project leveraged advances in machine learning based data analysis techniques and untargeted analytical methods for organic analysis to progress nuclear nonproliferation technologies beyond current capabilities. The developed approaches can be used to detect and identify complex chemical fingerprints of facilities of interest. These techniques have been developed for fields such as metabolomics and genomics but have not been applied to nuclear nonproliferation applications. Adaptation of these techniques for volatile organic compound analysis has far reaching application within the scientific community including environmental chemistry, atmospheric physics, and climate sciences.

Physics-guided Machine Learning: from Supervised Deep Networks to Unsupervised Lightweight Models [Slides]

Machine learning yields great potentials in improving imaging performance (i.e., accuracy and efficiency). The incorporation of governing equation will improve generalization and alleviate label scarcity. Employ physical properties can reduce model complexity and significantly save training cost without compromising accuracy. Combining SciML imaging and edge computing would allow broader applications in energy, medicine, and other domains.

Bayesian Tensor Decompositions for Scalable Supervised Learning of Scientific Data (Final Report)

In this document we highlight the detailed accomplishments and progress that we have made in this period. This progress seeks to address the three main objectives to provide new algorithms for quantifying uncertainty in low-multilinear-rank models and to leverage them for data analysis. These include: (1) develop probabilistic models for low-multilinear-rank functions; (2) develop a suite of Bayesian learning approaches to learn the probabilistic models from data; (3) apply the techniques on challenging problems arising in DOE-relevant applications.
