Internal Flow and Burning Characteristics of 16-inch Ram Jet Operating in a Free Jet at Mach Numbers of 1.35 and 1.73

The effects of mass-flow ratio on the additive drag and normal-shock position of a single oblique-shock diffuser are presented. Also evaluated is the variation with operating condition of the velocity distribution at the combustion-chamber inlet. A comparison with connected-pipe data is included. Burner performance with a corrugated gutter-grid flame holder is discussed. It is shown that the total-pressure drop across the combustion chamber can be predicted with reasonable accuracy from the computed flame holder and combustion momentum pressure losses.

Preliminary evaluation of the air and fuel specific-impulse characteristics of several potential ram-jet fuels IV : hydrogen, a-methylnaphthalene, and carbon / Benson E. Gammon

A preliminary analytical evaluation of the air and fuel specific-impulse characteristics of hydrogen, a-methylnapthalene, and graphite carbon has been made. Adiabatic constant-pressure combustion flame temperatures for each fuel at several equivalence ratios were calculated for an initial air temperature of 560 degrees R and a pressure of 2 atmospheres.

Analytical and Experimental Studies of a Divided-flow Ram-jet Combustor

Results of a theoretical and experimental study of the total pressure losses and combustion efficiencies associated with the divided-flow combustor are presented and comparisons made with the nondivided-flow combustor. The theoretical treatment indicated the range of primary-zone size, primary-zone air flow, and flame-holder pressure-loss coefficients over which the total-pressure loss through the divided-flow combustor was less than that through the nondivided-flow combustor. The experimental work indicated the range of fuel-air ratios, for a given size primary zone, over which the combustion efficiency in the divided-flow combustor was higher than that in the nondivided-flow combustor.

RCT Continuing Training: Item Release and RAM Control [Slides]

Welcome to the online RCT Continuing Training. This quarter’s topic will review the fundamental elements of radioactive material control and releasing items from controlled areas to include: evaluation if an item may be released and the actions necessary to perform a release from a controlled area.
