The Production of NO subscript 2 from the Photolysis of Peroxyacetyl Nitrate

PAN vapor was photolyzed at 248 nm and the NO subscript 2 photoproduct was detected by laser induced fluorescence (LIF). By comparison to the NO subscript 2 production from the photolysis of HNO subscript 3 under identical experimental conditions, we have obtained a relative quantum yield for the production of NO subscript 2. The implications of these results for atmospheric PAN chemistry will be discussed.

Investigation of Chemical Species in the Corrosion Barrier Layer on Thermal CO 2 Treated AZ91D Magnesium Alloy with Lithium Nitrate

A unique corrosion barrier layer, formed by thermal CO 2 treatment with LiNO 3 on AZ91D, was characterized to reveal the chemical species and their spatial distribution using the combination of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) techniques. Two distinct and spatially segregated phases were identified as Li compound(s) with MgCO 3 and MgO in the surface barrier layer. Finally, based on the characterization results, it is presumed that the reaction of Mg oxide/hydroxide with LiNO 3 and CO 2 occurred preferentially in some local areas where Li compound(s) with MgCO 3 were present, but the unreacted areas contained MgO in the surface barrier layer.

Improved Design Standard for High Temperature Molten Nitrate Salt Tank Design

The Preliminary Design Guide Outline is intended to create a first iteration of the sections of the future Molten Salt Design guide, with an emphasis on gaps in the current industry accepted standard base that already exists. This outline will be a skeleton for the standard moving forward. With this outline, gaps within the current knowledge base are outlined to guide research moving forward.
