GE underwater test facility studies in zero G simulation

The underwater test facility (UTF) is described as an indoor controlled environment test facility designed specifically for zero G simulation, hydrospace manned and unmanned equipment development, and personnel training for both space and underwater exploration. Programs conducted in the UTF include: human engineering criteria for maintenance and repairs of space stations, astronaut performance, helmet distortion, underwater telemetry, and blood transfusion.

Code CUGEL: A code to unfold Ge(Li) spectrometer polyenergetic gamma photon experimental distributions

A FORTRAN code was developed for the Univac 1108 digital computer to unfold lithium-drifted germanium semiconductor spectrometers, polyenergetic gamma photon experimental distributions. It was designed to analyze the combination continuous and monoenergetic gamma radiation field of radioisotope volumetric sources. The code generates the detector system response matrix function and applies it to monoenergetic spectral components discretely and to the continuum iteratively. It corrects for system drift, source decay, background, and detection efficiency. Results are presented in digital form for differential and integrated photon number and energy distributions, and for exposure dose.

New metal atom laser transitions in As, Bi, Ga, Ge, Hg, In, Pb, Sb, and Tl

A double discharge technique was used in the investigation. An initial discharge established between parallel arrays of tungsten pin electrodes was followed, after a variable time delay, by a high voltage (180 kV), short duration (50 nsec) secondary discharge between two aluminum main electrodes. Metal compounds, including metal alkyls, hydrides, and halides, were used to obtain the required metal atom concentrations. Twenty-four new laser transitions involving 9 different metal atoms were observed. The observed relations are shown in a number of partial energy-level diagrams.

User's instructions for the GE cardiovascular model to simulate LBNP and tilt experiments, with graphic capabilities

The present form of this cardiovascular model simulates both 1-g and zero-g LBNP (lower body negative pressure) experiments and tilt experiments. In addition, the model simulates LBNP experiments at any body angle. The model is currently accessible on the Univac 1110 Time-Shared System in an interactive operational mode. Model output may be in tabular form and/or graphic form. The graphic capabilities are programmed for the Tektronix 4010 graphics terminal and the Univac 1110.

Indoor test for thermal performance of the GE TC-100 liquid solar collector eight- and ten-tube configuration

The thermal performance of a liquid solar collector was tested in eight- and ten-tube configurations under simulated conditions. A time constant test and an incident angle modifier test were also conducted to determine the transient and incident angle effects on the collector. Performance loss with accessory covers is demonstrated. The gross collector area is about 17.4 ft sq without manifold and 19.1 ft sq with manifold. The collector weight is approximately 60 pounds empty and 75 pounds with manifold.

A computer algorithm for performing interactive algebraic computation on the GE Image-100 system

A subroutine which performs specialized algebraic computations upon ocean color scanner multispectral data is presented. The computed results are displayed on a video display. The subroutine exists as a component of the aircraft sensor analysis package. The user specifies the parameters of the computations by directly interacting with the computer. A description of the conversational options is also given.

GE MOD-1 noise study

Noise studies of the MOD-1 Wind Turbine Generator are summarized, and a simple mathematical noise is presented which is adequate to correlate the sound levels found near the machine. A simple acoustic measure is suggested for use in evaluating far field sound levels. Use of this measure as input to a currently available sound complaint prediction program is discussed. Results of a recent statistical survey relative to the far field variation of this acoustic measure because of atmospheric effects are described.

Silicon superlattices. 2: Si-Ge heterostructures and MOS systems

Five main areas were examined: (1) the valence-and conduction-band-edge electronic structure of the thin layer ( 11 A) silicon-superlattice systems; (2) extension of thin-layer calculations to layers of thickness 11 A, where most potential experimental interest lies; (3) the electronic structure of thicker-layer (11 to 110 A) silicon superlattices; (4) preliminary calculations of impurity-scattering-limited electron mobility in the thicker-layer superlattices; and (5) production of the fine metal lines that would be required to produce on MOS superlattice.
