Abstract The SAT problem is a prototypical NP-complete problem of fundamental importance in computational complexity theory with many applications in science and engineering; as such, it has long served as an essential benchmark for classical and quantum algorithms. This study shows numerical evidence for a quadratic speedup of the Grover Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (G-QAOA) over random sampling for finding all solutions to 3-SAT (All-SAT) and Max-SAT problems. G-QAOA is less resource-intensive and more adaptable for these problems than Grover’s algorithm, and it surpasses conventional QAOA in its ability to sample all solutions. We show these benefits by classical simulations of many-round G-QAOA on thousands of random 3-SAT instances. We also observe G-QAOA advantages on the IonQ Aria quantum computer for small instances, finding that current hardware suffices to determine and sample all solutions. Interestingly, a single-angle-pair constraint that uses the same pair of angles at each G-QAOA round greatly reduces the classical computational overhead of optimizing the G-QAOA angles while preserving its quadratic speedup. We also find parameter clustering of the angles. The single-angle-pair protocol and parameter clustering significantly reduce obstacles to classical optimization of the G-QAOA angles.
Abstract BindingDB (bindingdb.org) is a public, web-accessible database of experimentally measured binding affinities between small molecules and proteins, which supports diverse applications including medicinal chemistry, biochemical pathway annotation, training of artificial intelligence models and computational chemistry methods development. This update reports significant growth and enhancements since our last review in 2016. Of note, the database now contains 2.9 million binding measurements spanning 1.3 million compounds and thousands of protein targets. This growth is largely attributable to our unique focus on curating data from US patents, which has yielded a substantial influx of novel binding data. Recent improvements include a remake of the website following responsive web design principles, enhanced search and filtering capabilities, new data download options and webservices and establishment of a long-term data archive replicated across dispersed sites. We also discuss BindingDB’s positioning relative to related resources, its open data sharing policies, insights gleaned from the dataset and plans for future growth and development.
High-throughput sequencing has generated an unprecedented volume of data. However, researcher-submitted data in repositories requires extensive curation and quality control for reuse. These tasks are hindered by the multiplicity of repositories, the sheer volume of the data, and the complexity of virus (meta)data curation. To address these challenges, VirJenDB offers a user-friendly platform to facilitate versioned, community-driven curation, and ontology development. Virus sequences were ingested from 16 sources, including ~200 fields of metadata or standards, covering taxonomy, sample, and host information. Up to 85 metadata fields have undergone at least one round of curation, and are linked to 15.4 million virus sequences, with 88 % from those infecting eukaryotes and the remaining infecting prokaryotes. Subsets were created, including a novel collection of 0.91 million viral operational taxonomic unit (vOTU) sequences across all viruses, while keeping the original sequences from each vOTU to facilitate downstream analyses, e.g. sequence variation. The VirJenDB web portal (https://www.virjendb.org) provides HTTPS and Application Programming Interface (API) access to the sequence datasets and metadata, offering a search engine, filtering, download, visualizations, and documentation. VirJenDB aims to connect the phage and eukaryotic virus research communities by supporting webtool integration, meta-analyses, and metadata schema extensions.

High Performance Computing (HPC) centers, such as the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF), provide advanced infrastructure that enables scientific research at extreme scale. These centers operate with unique hardware configurations, specialized software environments, and elevated security re quirements that differ substantially from what most users encounter on their local systems. As a result, users often develop customized digital artifacts that are tightly coupled to the specific configuration of a given HPC center. Although necessary, this practice can lead to significant duplication of effort as multiple users independently create similar solutions to common problems.

Evidence is presented for coupling between the upper and lower atmosphere by means of the shorting out of the vertical mesospheric electric field by auroral radiation, which causes a transfer of mesospheric potential to the lower atmosphere. Measurements were made by an electric field antenna which was part of a parachute-borne payload, launched by rocket from near Fairbanks, Alaska. Data obtained from quiet time observations indicate the normal low altitude electric field pattern, with a greater field at high altitudes, while observations at disturbed times show a small field at high altitudes and a greater field at low altitudes. Means for observing this effect at lower latitudes are also suggested. While the data obtained support the proposed mechanism, it is noted that other mechanisms, such as direct modulation by large amounts of solar cosmic rays and aurorally produced charge separation, may also be important.
The paper reports the discovery of short-term variability in the planetary-scale-size vertical electric field measured in the stratosphere. Measurements were made on superpressure balloons at 26-km altitude separated by up to 3000 km. Data are presented which show that the large-scale current system is variable, with twice the amplitude of the average diurnal variations, on time scales of tens of minutes to hours.
The Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) is an ANSI draft proposed standard for a 100 megabit per second fiber optic token ring. FDDI supports two types of traffic, synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous traffic is time critical traffic; stations are assigned guaranteed bandwidth to support their synchronous needs. Asynchronous traffic is lower priority and is sent only if time permits. It is proved analytically that the FDDI access protocol provides all stations on the ring with equal access to the channel to transmit asynchronous frames, regardless of the relative sizes of synchronous bandwidth allocations for individual stations. Analytic results are supported with data from simulation runs.
Flight experiments are being conducted with the objective to investigate the interactions between acoustic disturbances and laminar flow in the flight environment. In the experiments, the laminar boundary layer on the nacelles will be exposed to discrete and broadband external noises, and the effect of varying noise levels and frequencies on the stability of the laminar flow will be studied. The present paper provides an overview of the complete project and a status report on the results which have been obtained. The flight experiment is conducted with the aid of a modified research aircraft. The phase I flight tests are concerned with a quick and simple determination of natural laminar flow (NLF) behavior on an engine nacelle. Attention is given to instrumentation, the acoustic noise source, flow visualization, and the test results.
