Self‐Standing Chiral Covalent Organic Framework Thin Films with Full‐Color Tunable Guest‐Induced Circularly Polarized Luminescence

Abstract Exploring self‐standing chiral covalent organic framework (COF) thin films with controllable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is of paramount significance but remains a challenging task. Herein, we demonstrate the first example of self‐standing chiral COF films employing a polymerization‐dispersion‐filtration strategy. Pristine, low‐quality chiral COF films were produced by interfacial polymerization and then re‐dispersed into COF colloidal solutions. Via vacuum assisted assembly, these COF colloids were densely stacked and assembled into self‐standing, pure chiral COF films ( L‐ / D‐ CCOF‐F) that were transparent, smooth, crack‐free and highly crystalline. These films were tunable in thicknesses, areas, and roughness, along with strong diffuse reflectance circular dichroism (DRCD) and cyan CPL signals, showing an intrinsic luminescence asymmetric factor ( g lum ) of ~4.3×10 −3 . Furthermore, these COF films served as host adsorbents to load various achiral organic dye guests through adsorption. The effective chiral transfer and energy transfer between CCOF‐F and achiral fluorescent dyes endowed the dyes with strong chirality and tunable DRCD, resulting in intense, full‐color‐tunable solid‐state CPL. Notably, the ordered arrangement of dye guest molecules within the preferentially oriented chiral pores of CCOF‐F contributed to an amplified | g lum | factor of up to 7.2×10 −2 , which is state‐of‐the‐art for COF‐based CPL materials. This work provides new insights into the design and fabrication of self‐standing chiral COF films, demonstrating their great potential for chiroptical applications.

Surfactant-Induced Interfacial Aggregation of Porphyrins for Structuring Color-Tunable Liquids

Locking nonequilibrium shapes of liquids into targeted architectures by interfacial jamming of nanoparticles is an emerging area in material science. 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin (H 6 TPPS) shows three different aggregation states that present an absorption imaging platform to monitor the assembly and jamming of supramolecular polymer surfactants (SPSs) at the liquid/liquid interface. The interfacial interconversion of H 6 TPPS, specifically H 4 TPPS 2- dissolved in water, from J- to an H-aggregation was induced by strong electrostatic interactions with amine-terminated polystyrene dissolved in toluene at the water/toluene interface. We find that this resulted in color-tunable liquids due to interfacial jamming of the SPSs formed between H 4 TPPS 2- and amine-terminated polystyrene. However, the formed SPSs cannot lock in nonequilibrium shapes of liquids. In addition, a self-wrinkling behavior was observed when amphiphilic triblock copolymers of PS-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine)-block-poly(ethylene oxide) were used to interact with H 4 TPPS 2- . Subsequently, the SPSs formed can lock in nonequilibrium shapes of liquids.

Novel color center platforms enabling fundamental scientific discovery

Abstract Color centers are versatile systems that generate quantum light, sense magnetic fields and produce spin‐photon entanglement. We review how these properties have pushed the limits of fundamental knowledge in a variety of scientific disciplines, from rejecting local‐realistic theories to sensing superconducting phase transitions. In the light of recent progress in material processing and device fabrication, we identify new opportunities for interdisciplinary fundamental discoveries in physics and geochemistry. image

$t\overline{t}t\overline{t}$ signatures through the lens of color-octet scalars

We reinterpret two recent LHC searches for events containing four top quarks ($t\overline{t}t\overline{t}$) in the context of supersymmetric models with Dirac gauginos and color-octet scalars (sgluons). We explore whether sgluon contributions to the four-top production cross section σ ($pp$ → $t\overline{t}t\overline{t}$) can accommodate an excess of four-top events recently reported by the ATLAS collaboration. We also study constraints on these models from an ATLAS search for new phenomena with high jet multiplicity and significant missing transverse energy ($E^{miss}_{T}$) sensitive to signals with four top quarks. We find that these two analyses provide complementary constraints, with the jets + $E^{miss}_{T}$ search exceeding the four-top cross section measurement in sensitivity for sgluons heavier than about 800 GeV. We ultimately find that either a scalar or a pseudoscalar sgluon can currently fit the ATLAS excess in a range of reasonable benchmark scenarios, though a pseudoscalar in minimal Dirac gaugino models is ruled out. We finally offer sensitivity projections for these analyses at the HL-LHC, mapping the 5σ discovery potential in sgluon parameter space and computing exclusion limits at 95% CL in scenarios where no excess is found.

Fiducial $q_T$ resummation of color-singlet processes at N$^3$LL+NNLO

We present a framework for $q_T$ resummation at N 3 LL+NNLO accuracy for arbitrary color-singlet processes based on a factorization theorem in SCET. Our implementation CuTe-MCFM is fully differential in the Born kinematics and matches to large-$q_T$ fixed-order predictions at relative order $α^2_s$. It provides an efficient way to estimate uncertainties from fixed-order truncation, resummation, and parton distribution functions. In addition to W ± , Z and H production, also the diboson processes $\gamma\gamma$, Z$\gamma$, ZH and W ± H are available, including decays. We discuss and exemplify the framework with several direct comparisons to experimental measurements as well as inclusive benchmark results. In particular, we present novel results for $\gamma\gamma$ and Z$\gamma\gamma$ at N 3 LL+NNLO and discuss in detail the power corrections induced by photon isolation requirements.

Leading-color two-loop amplitudes for four partons and a $\textit{W}$ boson in QCD

We present the leading-color two-loop QCD corrections for the scattering of four partons and a W boson, including its leptonic decay. The amplitudes are assembled from the planar two-loop helicity amplitudes for four partons and a vector boson decaying to a lepton pair, which are also used to determine the planar two-loop amplitudes for four partons and a $Z/γ^\ast$ boson with a leptonic decay. The analytic expressions are obtained by setting up a dedicated Ansatz and constraining the free parameters from numerical samples obtained within the framework of numerical unitarity. The large linear systems that must be solved to determine the analytic expressions are constructed to be in Vandermonde form. Such systems can be very efficiently solved, bypassing the bottleneck of Gaussian elimination. Our results are expressed in a basis of one-mass pentagon functions, which opens the possibility of their efficient numerical evaluation.

Soft gluon emission at two loops in full color

The soft emission factor is a central ingredient in the factorization of generic n-particle gauge theory amplitudes with one soft gluon in the external state. We present the complete two-loop soft factor, capturing the leading power behavior in the soft-gluon momentum. At two loops, the color structure and the kinematic dependence of the soft factor become nontrivial as the soft gluon can couple to three hard partons for the first time (tripole terms). The nontrivial kinematic dependence of the tripole terms is of uniform, maximal transcendental weight, and can be expressed (in a “Euclidean” region) in terms of single-valued harmonic polylogarithms. Our results are consistent with the behavior of the recently computed symbol of the two-loop five-particle amplitude in $Ν$ = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory. In the limit where the outgoing soft gluon is also collinear with an incoming hard parton, potentially dangerous factorization-violating terms can arise.

On the differential representation and color-kinematics duality of AdS boundary correlators

The AdS boundary correlators and their dual correlation functions of boundary operators have been the main dynamic observables of the holographic duality relating a bulk AdS theory and a boundary conformal field theory. We show that tree-level AdS boundary correlators for generic states can be expressed as nonlocal differential operators of a certain structure acting on contact Witten diagrams. We further write the boundary correlators in a form that is very similar to flat space amplitudes, with Mandelstam variables replaced by certain combinations of single-state conformal generators, prove that all tree-level AdS boundary correlators have a differential representation, and detail the conversion of such differential expressions to position space. We illustrate the construction through the computation of the boundary correlators of scalars coupled to gluons and gravitons; when converted to position space, they reproduce known results. Color-kinematics duality and BCJ relations can be defined in analogy with their flat space counterparts, and are respected by the scalar correlators with a gluon exchange. We also discuss potential approaches to the double copy and find that its direct generalization may require nontrivial extensions.

Semi-inclusive single-jet production in DIS at next-to-leading order in the Color Glass Condensate

Within the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory, we derive the next-to-leading order (NLO) cross-section for the single-jet semi-inclusive cross-section in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small x, for both longitudinally and transversely polarized virtual photons. We provide analytic expressions, valid at finite N c and suitable for numerical evaluation, for both the cross-section differential in rapidity and transverse momentum and the cross-section differential in rapidity only. Our NLO formulae demonstrate that the very forward rapidity regime is plagued by large double logarithmic corrections coming from phase space constraints on soft gluons close to the kinematic threshold for jet production. A joint resummation of small-x and threshold logarithms at single logarithmic accuracy is proposed to remedy the instability of the cross-section in this regime. By integrating over the single-jet phase space, we recover known results for the NLO DIS structure functions at small x, previously obtained using the optical theorem.

Leading-color two-loop QCD corrections for three-jet production at hadron colliders

We present the complete set of leading-color two-loop contributions required to obtain next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) QCD corrections to three-jet production at hadron colliders. We obtain analytic expressions for a generating set of finite remainders, valid in the physical region for three-jet production. The analytic continuation of the known Euclidean-region results is determined from a small set of numerical evaluations of the amplitudes. We obtain analytic expressions that are suitable for phenomenological applications and we present a C++ library for their efficient and stable numerical evaluation.

Two-loop master integrals for leading-color $$ pp\to t\overline{t}H $$ amplitudes with a light-quark loop

Abstract We compute the two-loop master integrals for leading-color QCD scattering amplitudes including a closed light-quark loop in$$ t\overline{t}H $$ t t ¯ H production at hadron colliders. Exploiting numerical evaluations in modular arithmetic, we construct a basis of master integrals satisfying a system of differential equations inϵ-factorized form. We present the analytic form of the differential equations in terms of a minimal set of differential one-forms. We explore properties of the function space of analytic solutions to the differential equations in terms of iterative integrals which can be exploited for studying the analytic form of related scattering amplitudes. Finally, we solve the differential equations using generalized series expansions to numerically evaluate the master integrals in physical phase space. As the first computation of a set of two-loop seven-scale master integrals, our results provide valuable input for analytic studies of scattering amplitudes in processes involving massive particles and a large number of kinematic scales.

Collinear expansion for color singlet cross sections

We demonstrate how to efficiently expand cross sections for color-singlet production at hadron colliders around the kinematic limit of all final state radiation being collinear to one of the incoming hadrons. This expansion is systematically improvable and applicable to a large class of physical observables. We demonstrate the viability of this technique by obtaining the first two terms in the collinear expansion of the rapidity distribution of the gluon fusion Higgs boson production cross section at next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) in QCD perturbation theory. Furthermore, we illustrate how this technique is used to extract universal building blocks of scattering cross section like the N-jettiness and transverse momentum beam function at NNLO.

Exploring color-octet scalar parameter space in minimal R-symmetric models

In this work we study the collider phenomenology of color-octet scalars (sgluons) in minimal supersymmetric models endowed with a global continuous R symmetry. We systematically catalog the significant decay channels of scalar and pseudoscalar sgluons and identify novel features that are natural in these models. These include decays in nonstandard diboson channels, such as to a gluon and a photon; three-body decays with considerable branching fractions; and long-lived particles with displaced vertex signatures. We also discuss the single and pair production of these particles and show that they can evade existing constraints from the Large Hadron Collider, to varying extents, in large regions of reasonable parameter space. We find, for instance, that a 725 GeV scalar and a 350 GeV or lighter pseudoscalar can still be accommodated in realistic scenarios.

Dijet impact factor in DIS at next-to-leading order in the Color Glass Condensate

In this work, we compute the next-to-leading order impact factor for inclusive dijet production in deeply inelastic electron-nucleus scattering at small x Bj . Our computation, performed in the framework of the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory, includes all real and virtual contributions in the gluon shock wave background of all-twist lightlike Wilson line correlators. We demonstrate explicitly that the rapidity evolution of these correlators, to leading logarithmic accuracy, is described by the JIMWLK Hamiltonian. When combined with the next-to-leading order JIMWLK Hamiltonian, our results for the impact factor improve the accuracy of the inclusive dijet cross-section to \( \mathcal{O} \) ( \( {\alpha}_s^2 \) ln( x f /x Bj )), where x f is a rapidity factorization scale. These results are an essential ingredient in assessing the discovery potential of inclusive dijets to uncover the physics of gluon saturation at the Electron-Ion Collider.

Single-soft emissions for amplitudes with two colored particles at three loops

We compute the three-loop correction to the universal single-soft emission current for the case of scattering amplitudes with two additional color-charged partons. We present results valid for QCD and $\mathcal{N}$ = 4 super-symmetric Yang-Mills theory. To achieve our results we develop a new integrand expansion technique for scattering amplitudes in the presence of soft emissions. Furthermore, we obtain contributions from single final-state parton matrix elements to the Higgs boson and Drell-Yan production cross section at next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to leading order (N 4 LO) in perturbative QCD in the threshold limit.

Dijet Acoplanarity in CUJET3 as a Probe of the Nonperturbative Color Structure of QCD Perfect Fluids

Using the CUJET3=DGLV+VISHNU jet-medium interaction framework, we show that dijet azimuthal acoplanarity in high energy A + A collisions is sensitive to possible non-perturbative enhancement of the jet transport coefficient, $\hat{q}$(T,E), in the QCD crossover temperature T ~ 150–300 MeV range. With jet-medium couplings constrained by global RHIC& LHC χ 2 fits to nuclear modification data on R AA (p T > 20) GeV, we compare predictions of the medium induced dijet transverse momentum squared, $Q_s^2~\langle \hat{q}L\rangle~ΔΦ^2E^2$, in two models of the temperature, T, and jet energy E dependence of the jet medium transport coefficient, $\hat{q}$(T,E)). In one model, wQGP, the chromo degrees of freedom (dof) are approximated by a perturbative dielectric gas of quark and gluons dof. In the second model, sQGMP, we consider a nonperturbative partially confined semi-Quark-Gluon-Monopole-Plasma with emergent color magnetic dof constrained by lattice QCD data. Unlike the slow variation of the scaled jet transport coefficient, $\hat{q}_{wQGP}/T^3$, the sQGMP model $\hat{q}_{sQGMP}/T^3$ features a sharp maximum in the QCD confinement crossover T range. We show that the dijet path averaged medium induced azimuthal acoplanarity, Δφ 2 , in sQGMP is robustly ~ 2 times larger than in perturbative wQGP. even though the radiative energy loss in both models is very similar as needed to fit the same R AA data. Future A+A dijet acoplanarity measurements constrained together with single jet R AA and ν n measurements therefore appears to be a promising strategy to search for possible signatures of critical opalescence like phenomena in the QCD confinement temperature range.

Spin-orbit entanglement in the Color Glass Condensate

We compute the spin-orbit correlations of quarks and gluons at small-x and show that the helicity and the orbital angular momentum of individual partons are strongly anti-aligned even in unpolarized or spinless hadrons and nuclei. Combined with the fact that gluons in the Color Glass Condensate are linearly polarized, our finding indicates that the helicity and the orbital angular momentum of single gluons are maximally entangled in a quantum mechanical sense.

Phylogenomics reveals convergent evolution of red-violet coloration in land plants and the origins of the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway

The flavonoids, one of the largest classes of plant secondary metabolites, are found in lineages that span the land plant phylogeny and play important roles in stress responses and as pigments. Perhaps the most well-studied flavonoids are the anthocyanins that have human health benefits and help plants attract pollinators, regulate hormone production, and confer resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses. The canonical biochemical pathway responsible for the production of these pigments is well-characterized for flowering plants yet its conservation across deep divergences in land plants remains debated and poorly understood. Many early land plants such as mosses, liverworts, and ferns produce flavonoid pigments, but their biosynthetic origins and homologies to the anthocyanin pathway remain uncertain. We conducted phylogenetic analyses using full genome sequences representing nearly all major green plant lineages to reconstruct the evolutionary history of the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway then test the hypothesis that genes in this pathway are present in early land plants. We found that the entire pathway was not intact until the most recent common ancestor of seed plants and that orthologs of many downstream enzymes are absent from seedless plants including mosses, liverworts, and ferns. Our results also highlight the utility of phylogenetic inference, as compared to pairwise sequence similarity, in orthology assessment within large gene families that have complex duplication-loss histories. Here, we suggest that the production of red-violet flavonoid pigments widespread in seedless plants, including the 3-deoxyanthocyanins, requires the activity of novel, as-yet discovered enzymes, and represents convergent evolution of red-violet coloration across land plants.
