Search for a new scalar resonance in flavour-changing neutral-current top-quark decays $t → qX (q = u, c)$, with $X → b\overline{b} $, in proton-proton collisions at $ \sqrt{s} $ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for flavour-changing neutral-current decays of a top quark into an up-type quark (either up or charm) and a light scalar particle X decaying into a bottom anti-bottom quark pair is presented. The search focuses on top-quark pair production where one top quark decays to qX, with X → $b\bar{b}$, and the other top quark decays according to the Standard Model, with the W boson decaying leptonically. The final state is thus characterised by an isolated electron or muon and at least four jets. Events are categorised according to the multiplicity of jets and jets tagged as originating from b-quarks, and a neural network is used to discriminate between signal and background processes. The data analysed correspond to 139 fb –1 of proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The 95% confidence-level upper limits between 0.019% and 0.062% are derived for the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}$(t → uX) and between 0.018% and 0.078% for the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}$(t → cX), for masses of the scalar particle X between 20 and 160 GeV.

Pressure and Temperature Dependence of the Reaction of Vinyl Radical with Ethylene

This work reports measurements of absolute rate coefficients and Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus (RRKM) master equation simulations of the C2H3 + C2H4 reaction. Direct kinetic studies were performed over a temperature range of 300-700 K and pressures of 20 and 133 mbar. Vinyl radicals (H2C=CH) were generated by laser photolysis of vinyl iodide (C2H31) at 266 nm, and time-resolved absorption spectroscopy was used to probe vinyl radicals through absorption at 423.2 nm. Measurements at 20 mbar are in good agreement with previous determinations at higher temperature. A weighted three-parameter Arrhenius fit to the experimental rate constant at 133 mbar, with the temperature exponent fixed, gives k = (7 +/- 1) x 10(exp -l4) cu cm/molecule/s (T/298 K)(exp 2) exp[-(1430 +/- 70) K/T]. RRKM master equation simulations, based on G3 calculations of stationary points on the C4H7 potential energy surface, were carried out to predict rate coefficients and product branching fractions. The predicted branching to 1-methylallyl product is relatively small under the conditions of the present experiments but increases as the pressure is lowered. Analysis of end products of 248 nm photolysis of vinyl iodide/ethylene mixtures at total pressures between 27 and 933 mbar provides no direct evidence for participation of I -methylallyl.

Search for the dark photon in B 0 → A'A', A' → e + e – , μ + μ – , and π + π – decays at Belle

We present a search for the dark photon A' in the B 0 → A'A' decays, where A' subsequently decays to e + e – , μ + μ – , and π + π – . The search is performed by analyzing 772 × 10 6 $B$$\overline{B}$ events collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e – energy-asymmetric collider at the Υ(4S) resonance. No signal is found in the dark photon mass range 0.01 GeV/c 2 ≤ m A' ≤ 2.62 GeV/c 2 , and we set upper limits of the branching fraction of B0 → A'A' at the 90% confidence level. The products of branching fractions, B(B 0 →A'A')×B(A'→e + e – ) 2 and B(B 0 →A'A')×B(A'→μ + μ – ) 2 , have limits of the order of 10 –8 depending on the A' mass. Furthermore, considering A' decay rate to each pair of charged particles, the upper limits of B(B 0 →A'A') are of the order of 10 –8 –10 –5 . From the upper limits of B(B 0 →A'A'), we obtain the Higgs portal coupling for each assumed dark photon and dark Higgs mass. The Higgs portal couplings are of the order of 10 –2 –10 –1 at m h' ≃m B 0 ± 40 MeV/c 2 and 10 –1 –1 at m h' ≃m B 0 ± 3 GeV/c 2 .

Search for e + e − → φ χ c 0 and φ η c 2 ( 1 D ) at center-of-mass energies from 4.47 to 4.95 GeV

Utilizing a dataset of 6.7 fb − 1 from electron-positron collisions recorded by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, a search is conducted for the processes e + e − → ϕ χ c 0 and ϕ η c 2 ( 1 D ) across center-of-mass energies from 4.47 to 4.95 GeV. In the absence of any significant signals, upper limits are set. These include limits on the dressed cross sections for e + e − → ϕ χ c 0 , as well as the product of the dressed cross section for e + e − → ϕ η c 2 ( 1 D ) and a sum of five branching fractions. Furthermore, the product of the electronic width of Y ( 4660 ) and the branching fraction of the Y ( 4660 ) → ϕ χ c 0 , denoted as Γ e + e − Y ( 4660 ) B Y ( 4660 ) → ϕ χ c 0 , is determined to be < 0.35 eV at the 90% confidence level. We present the first search for the weak radiative decays Λ$^+_c$ → Σ + γ and Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ 0 γ using a data sample of 980 fb -1 collected by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider. Observation of $Λ^0_b$ → $D^+ρπ^-π^-$ and $Λ^0_b$ → $D^{*+}ρπ^-π^-$ decays

The multihadron decays $Λ^0_b$ → $D+ρπ-π-$ and $Λ^0_b$ → $D^*+ρπ-π-$ are observed in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb -1 , collected in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV by the LHCb detector. Dalitz analysis of $D^0 → K^–π^+η$ decays at Belle

The analysis is performed on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 953 fb – 1 collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e + e – KEKB collider. The Dalitz plot is well described by a combination of the six resonant decay channels K ¯ * ( 892 ) 0 η , K – a 0 ( 980 ) + , K – a 2 ( 1320 ) + , K ¯ * ( 1410 ) 0 η , K * ( 1680 ) – π + and K 2 * ( 1980 ) – π + , together with K π and K η S-wave components. The decays K * ( 1680 ) – → K – η and K 2 * ( 1980 ) – → K – η are observed for the first time. We measure ratio of the branching fractions, B ( D 0 → K – π + η ) B ( D 0 → K – π + ) = 0.500 ± 0.002 ( stat ) ± 0.020 ( syst ) ± 0.003 ( B PDG ) . Using the Dalitz fit result, the ratio B ( K * ( 1680 ) → K η ) B ( K * ( 1680 ) → K π ) is measured to be 0.11 ± 0.02 ( stat ) – 0.04 + 0.06 ( syst ) ± 0.04 ( B PDG ) ; this is much lower than the theoretical expectations ( ≈ 1 ) made under the assumption that K * ( 1680 ) is a pure 1 3 D 1 state. The product branching fraction B ( D 0 → [ K 2 * ( 1980 ) – → K – η ] π + ) = ( 2. 2 – 1.9 + 1.7 ) × 10 – 4 is determined. In addition, the π η ' contribution to the a 0 ( 980 ) ± resonance shape is confirmed with 10.1 σ statistical significance using the three-channel Flatté model. We also measure B ( D 0 → K ¯ * ( 892 ) 0 η ) = ( 1.4 1 – 0.12 + 0.13 ) % . This is consistent with, and more precise than, the current world average ( 1.02 ± 0.30 ) % , deviates with a significance of more than 3 σ from the theoretical predictions of (0.51–0.92)%.

Search for a W' boson decaying to a vector-like quark and a top or bottom quark in the all-jets final state at $\sqrt{\mathrm{s}}$ = 13 TeV

A search is presented for a heavy W' boson resonance decaying to a B or T vector-like quark and a t or a b quark, respectively. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb -1 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Both decay channels result in a signature with a t quark, a Higgs or Z boson, and a b quark, each produced with a significant Lorentz boost. The all-hadronic decays of the Higgs or Z boson and of the t quark are selected using jet substructure techniques to reduce standard model backgrounds, resulting in a distinct three-jet W' boson decay signature. No significant deviation in data with respect to the standard model background prediction is observed. Upper limits are set at 95% confidence level on the product of the W' boson cross section and the final state branching fraction. A W' boson with a mass below 3.1 TeV is excluded, given the benchmark model assumption of democratic branching fractions. In addition, limits are set based on generalizations of these assumptions. These are the most sensitive limits to date for this final state.
