The Case for a Muon Collider

Abstract

In the search for future high-energy collider technologies, the muon collider has emerged as an extremely promising long-term option. The muon’s large mass relative to the electron allows it to reach high mass energies with a small footprint. This talk will first provide an overview of the scientific potential of a future muon collider, followed by a discussion of the key technical challenges that must be overcome, given the muon’s short lifetime and the many acceleration stages in a collider. This talk concludes with encouragement for audiences to join the ongoing international research and development efforts for a muon collider.
