Differential charge radii: Proton-neutron interaction effects

Abstract

The analysis of self-consistency and proton-neutron interaction effects in the buildup of differential charge radii were carried out in covariant density functional theoretical calculations without pairing interaction on the example of selected configurations in the Pb isotopes. The proton-neutron interaction of neutron(s) added to the neutron ๐‘ = 126 core and the protons forming the ๐‘ = 82 proton core is responsible for a major contribution to the buildup of differential charge radii. It depends on the products of proton and neutron wave functions and thus on their nodal structure. This interaction leads to a redistribution of single-particle density of occupied proton states which in turn modifies the charge radii. Furthermore, the microscopic origin of this redistribution and its consequences for differential charge radii were investigated for the first time. Self-consistency effects affecting the shape of proton potential, total proton densities and the energies of the single-particle proton states provide only minor contribution to differential charge radii.

Photonuclear cross sections for the 197 Au โข(๐›พ, ๐‘โข๐‘›)โข 195โข๐‘š Pt reaction near threshold

Platinum radioisotopes are of growing interest for targeted cancer therapy and diagnostic imaging because their decay delivers highly localized radiation doses in tissue, herewith enabling precise DNA damage through Auger-electron emission. Developing production technologies that provide platinum isotopes with high specific activity is essential in radioisotope therapy. Photonuclear reactions on stable nuclei offer a viable accelerator-based route for isotope production when supported by reliable cross-section data. We report photonuclear cross-section measurements for the 197 Au(ฮณ, pn) 195m Pt reaction at incident ฮณ-ray energies of 27, 29, and 31 MeV using the activation method. The measurements were performed by irradiating a stack of concentric-ring gold targets with a quasi-monoenergetic ฮณ-ray beam provided by the High Intensity Gamma-ray Source (HI ฮณS). The induced 195m Pt activity was quantified using off-line ฮณ-ray spectroscopy. These data provide the first experimental constraints on the 197 Au(ฮณ, pn) 195m Pt cross section in the near-threshold region. Furthermore, the comparison of the measured excitation function to PHITS and TALYS calculations indicates that the reaction becomes measurable only near 30 MeV and that substantially higher bremsstrahlung end-point energies are required for practically meaningful production.

New level scheme and lifetime measurement of the 13/2 + state in 209 Po

The level structure of 209 Po has been studied by in-beam ๐›พ-ray spectroscopy with the 209 Bi โข( 6 Li ,๐›ผโข2โข๐‘›) 209 Po reaction at beam energies of 28, 30, 34 MeV. The level scheme of 209 Po is expanded by the ๐›พโˆ’๐›พ coincidence measurement, where 27 new transitions and 23 new levels are observed. The lifetimes of 13/2 โˆ’ , 17/2 โˆ’ , and 23/2 + states are obtained and are consistent with the previous work, while the one of the 13/2 + state is measured for the first time. A configuration-interaction-shell-model calculation is performed, and its results are compared with the experimental results for 209 Po , with an emphasis on the coupling between the single valence neutron hole and the even-even core of 210 Po . A systematic comparison of the 13/2 + state in N = 125 chain is also studied in the current work.

Lifetimes of two- and four-neutron-hole states in 204 Pb and 206 Pb

The centroid-shift method was used to determine half-lives of excited levels in 204 Pb and 206 Pb. For the states with ๐ผ ๐œ‹ = 12 + , 17 โˆ’ , and 19 โˆ’ in 204 Pb, values of ๐‘‡ 1/2 = 4.9โข(3), 3.9(3), and 0.9(3) ns, respectively, were determined. The half-life of the ๐ผ ๐œ‹ = 9 โˆ’ level in 206 Pb was measured to be 1.1(3) ns. In 204 Pb, the 12 + state arises from two neutron holes in the ๐‘– 13/2 subshell, while the 17 โˆ’ and 19 โˆ’ levels are built on ๐œˆโก(๐‘–$^{โˆ’3}_{13/2}$, ๐‘$^{โˆ’1}_{1/2}$) and ๐œˆโก(๐‘–$^{โˆ’3}_{13/2}$, ๐‘“$^{โˆ’1}_{5/2}$) four-neutron-hole configurations, respectively. The 9 โˆ’ state in 206 Pb results from a ๐œˆโก(๐‘–$^{โˆ’1}_{13/2}$, ๐‘“${โˆ’1}_{5/2}$) excitation. As a result, the transition probabilities for the decay of these isomeric levels are reasonably consistent with the expected single-particle values, and these states are described well by shell-model calculations using the kshell code with the KHHE interaction.
