Materials Data on Cs2GdCl5 by Materials Project
Abstract
Cs2GdCl5 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Cs1+ sites. In the first Cs1+ site, Cs1+ is bonded in a 10-coordinate geometry to ten Cl1- atoms. There are a spread of Cs–Cl bond distances ranging from 3.65–4.01 Å. In the second Cs1+ site, Cs1+ is bonded in a 10-coordinate geometry to ten Cl1- atoms. There are a spread of Cs–Cl bond distances ranging from 3.55–3.86 Å. Gd3+ is bonded to six Cl1- atoms to form corner-sharing GdCl6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are a spread of Gd–Cl bond distances ranging from 2.60–2.78 Å. There are four inequivalent Cl1- sites. In the first Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to four Cs1+ and one Gd3+ atom. In the second Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a distorted single-bond geometry to four Cs1+ and one Gd3+ atom. In the third Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to four Cs1+ and one Gd3+ atom. In the fourth Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to four Cs1+ and two equivalent Gd3+ atoms.
