Materials Data on Cd3Pt by Materials Project
Abstract
PtCd3 is Uranium Silicide-like structured and crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Pt is bonded to twelve equivalent Cd atoms to form PtCd12 cuboctahedra that share corners with six equivalent PtCd12 cuboctahedra, corners with twelve equivalent CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra, edges with eighteen equivalent CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra, faces with eight equivalent PtCd12 cuboctahedra, and faces with twelve equivalent CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra. There are six shorter (2.99 Å) and six longer (3.00 Å) Pt–Cd bond lengths. Cd is bonded to four equivalent Pt and eight equivalent Cd atoms to form distorted CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra that share corners with four equivalent PtCd12 cuboctahedra, corners with fourteen equivalent CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra, edges with six equivalent PtCd12 cuboctahedra, edges with twelve equivalent CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra, faces with four equivalent PtCd12 cuboctahedra, and faces with sixteen equivalent CdCd8Pt4 cuboctahedra. There are a spread of Cd–Cd bond distances ranging from 2.92–3.08 Å.
