Affordable Vehicle Avionics Overview

Abstract

Public and private launch vehicle developers are reducing the cost of propulsion for small commercial launchers, but conventional high-performance, high-reliability avionics remain the disproportionately high cost driver for launch. AVA technology performs as well or better than conventional launch vehicle avionics, but with a fraction of the recurring costs. AVA enables small launch providers to offer affordable rides to LEO to nano-satellites as primary payloads meaning, small payloads can afford to specify their own launch and orbit parameters

The High Performance Spaceflight Computing (HPSC) project is dramatically advancing the state of the art for spaceflight computing, providing both increased performance and greater operational flexibility. Initial studies derived an reference architecture for the HPSC Chiplet, and this has evolved as development has progress. NASA and JPL are jointly developing HPSC Middleware to ease the development of future applications for the Chiplet. Several NASA use cases are identified for HPSC, ranging from smallsats to crewed missions.

Control and Non-Payload Communications (CNPC) Prototype Radio Verification Test Report

This report provides an overview and results from the verification of the specifications that defines the operational capabilities of the airborne and ground, L Band and C Band, Command and Non-Payload Communications radio link system. An overview of system verification is provided along with an overview of the operation of the radio. Measurement results are presented for verification of the radios operation.

UAS in the NAS Project: Large-Scale Communication Architecture Simulations with NASA GRC Gen5 Radio Model

This report provides a description and performance characterization of the large-scale, Relay architecture, UAS communications simulation capability developed for the NASA GRC, UAS in the NAS Project. The system uses a validated model of the GRC Gen5 CNPC, Flight-Test Radio model. Contained in the report is a description of the simulation system and its model components, recent changes made to the system to improve performance, descriptions and objectives of sample simulations used for test and verification, and a sampling and observations of results and performance data.
