Magellan - Mission summary

Abstract

The surface morphology, electrical properties, and related processes of Venus are the major areas of investigation of the Magellan Mission. The spacecraft employs a SAR for imaging, altimetry, and radiometry, and the mapping of 83 percent of the surface was complete after one of Venus' sidereal days. The strips of image data can provide a global map of Venus to permit the determination of such geologic features as volcanic and tectonic patterns.
